2026 NFL Signings Graded by Team: San Francisco 49ers

This page lists all the 2026 NFL Signings for the San Francisco 49ers. I’ve listed all of the NFL Free Agent Signing Grades here, which included the Signings. Because I’ve begun posting polls for the Signings, I thought it would make sense to list just the NFL Signings here, so archiving the voting would be easier.

March 2026 – Signings

49ers sign WR Christian Kirk (1 year, $6 million): B+ Grade
signed on 3/16/2026

The 49ers have signed two receivers this offseason, and both happen to be perfect fits for their team. Mike Evans and Christian Kirk both have an extensive history of injuries, and as it so happens, most 49er players in general also have an extensive history of injuries.

Christian Kirk misses plenty of action, but he’s still a very effective player on the rare occasions when he’s healthy. We saw that in his dominant performance against the Steelers in the playoff victory a couple of months ago. Kirk should be productive for the 49ers when he can remain on the field. If he can’t do so, the 49ers won’t take too much of a hit because of the nature of this 1-year “prove it” contract.

49ers sign LB Dre Greenlaw (1 year, $7.5 million): A+ Grade
signed on 3/12/2026

Dre Greenlaw suffered an unfortunate injury in San Francisco’s most recent Super Bowl. He barely played in 2024 and then signed with the Broncos last offseason. Greenlaw once again missed action before returning to the field late in the year. He played relatively well, but wasn’t quite himself.

Now that Greenlaw is another year removed from his injury, he should continue to revert to form. There’s a good chance that Greenlaw, 29 in May, will play like his old self, especially now that he’s back with the 49ers. If he does, this is an amazing bargain for San Francisco. If not, the 49ers won’t lose much because there isn’t much risk to this contract.

49ers re-sign TE Jake Tonges (2 years, $8 million): A+ Grade
signed on 3/11/2026

San Francisco’s pass offense felt doomed last year when George Kittle suffered a multi-week injury. With Brandon Aiyuk sidelined, the 49ers didn’t have many threats remaining. San Francisco kept winning, however, because other players stepped up, and one of those players as Jake Tonges, who performed on a very high level in relief of Kittle.

Kittle tore his ACL in the playoff game against the Eagles, so Tonges will sorely be needed in the first half of the season. Tonges also could be considered to be the long-term replacement for Kittle, so to get such a player on such a cheap deal is definitely worth an A+.

49ers sign WR Mike Evans (3 years, $60.4 million): B- Grade
signed on 3/9/2026

It seems as though everyone is celebrating this signing as a great one, but I’m not so sure. It looks great on paper, but there are several problems with it.

The elephant in the room is that Evans is 33 (as of August). Most receivers tend to decline at 31-32, so Evans is at a point in his career in which he could regress. Another issue is that Evans has been injured frequently in recent years. He has chronic hamstring issues, which can only get worse in a San Francisco environment where everyone always gets hurt. And finally, this money could have gone toward paying Trent Williams. As Evan Daniel said, “You and I might as well be the receivers if Williams is traded.”

Still, there’s a chance that everything works out. If the 49ers re-sign Williams, and Evans has a strong year in which he doesn’t get hurt, this move could help the 49ers win the Super Bowl.

49ers sign OT Vederian Lowe (2 years, $12 million): A- Grade
signed on 3/9/2026

Every 49er fan knows that there’s an ongoing saga with Trent Williams. It remains to be seen if Williams will return. Thus, it makes sense to sign a capable backup who could potentially step into a starting role.

Vederian Lowe did a good job filling in for Will Campbell last year. Lowe can provide the same type of depth at a very reasonable price. Of course, the 49ers will be hoping that they don’t have to use Lowe, but we’re still unsure about that.
