2026 NFL Signings Graded by Team: New England Patriots

This page lists all the 2026 NFL Signings for the New England Patriots. I’ve listed all of the NFL Free Agent Signing Grades here, which included the Signings. Because I’ve begun posting polls for the Signings, I thought it would make sense to list just the NFL Signings here, so archiving the voting would be easier.

March 2026 – Signings

Patriots sign S Kevin Byard (1 year, $9 million): A- Grade
signed on 3/11/2026

Kevin Byard was once one of the better safeties in the NFL. Those days are long gone, but Byard still played well for Chicago last year. He’s worth signing to a 1-year “prove it” deal, but there’s a good chance that at 33, Byard will suffer age-related regression and struggle in 2026. The beauty of this contract is that the Patriots won’t be very penalized if Byard fails.

Patriots sign WR Romeo Doubs (4 years, $80 million): B- Grade
signed on 3/10/2026

This is rather underwhelming. The Patriots discussed trading for A.J. Brown, but all they got was Romeo Doubs. I don’t hate this signing, but it’s not exactly what was best for Drake Maye, and I imagine that most Patriots fans feel the same way.

Doubs is a mediocre receiver who has been inconsistent in Green Bay. It could be argued that this was the fault of “No Cookie” Jordan Love, so we’ll be able to see Doubs live out his full potential in New England. I’m not overly optimistic that we’ll see him bloom into a No. 1 receiver, but I won’t count out that possibility either. It’s more likely that we’ll see Doubs function as a No. 2 possession receiver, which means this is a bit of an overpay, but not an egregious one.

Patriots sign G/OT Alijah Vera-Tucker (3 years, $42 million): B Grade
signed on 3/10/2026

This is a tough signing to grade. Alijah Vera-Tucker is an extremely talented lineman who can play any position up front. If he can stay on the field, he’s going to give Drake Maye a great chance to remain upright, which is not what we saw in the playoffs. Maye was sacked 22 times in four playoff games. That can’t happen again.

The problem is that Vera-Tucker can’t stay healthy. He gets hurt every year and misses far too many games. I thought there was a chance Vera-Tucker would sign a 1-year “prove it” contract, but apparently not. This is a very risky signing, but then again, it has an incredibly high payoff. Hence, the difficulty of grading this contract.

Patriots sign DL Dre'Mont Jones (3 years, $39 million): B+ Grade
signed on 3/9/2026

One of those India-based X NFL accounts told Dre’Mont Jones that he would be signing a 3-year, $60 million contract, to which Jones said, “Yeah, I don’t know about that.” Jones signed a 3-year deal worth “just” $39 million.

The Patriots’ schedule is much tougher this upcoming year than it was in 2025, so they needed to continue to bolster their roster. Putting as much pressure on Josh Allen will be vital, so Jones and his seven sacks from 2025 will be quite welcome in New England.
