Sunday Smackdown: Raiders at Vikings

Welcome to the new Sunday Smackdown section, a place for you to talk trash and discuss each individual NFL game during the week leading up to it and while the game is going on.

Unlike NFL.com's GameCenter, almost anything goes here. Certain words - the obvious ones - are bleeped out, but everything else is allowed and encouraged.

Was at the game in Wisconsin and if Oakland can throw, the Vikings are in big trouble. Peterson should have a big day for the Vikings. Will not play this one either but for the hell of it Oakland 28 Vikings 24.

Not one to stay away from Walt, Palmer is on his game and is in synch with the team. One of the best value picks this week, change your pick of the month from carolina to oak, this is your chance to get out of the hole.

Oakland will throw, throw and throw some more. They will pull out a close game 27-21. Palmer will have his best day as a Raider. I do think that AP will have a HUGE day (160 Yards 3 TD) but that will be it for the offense for the Vikings.

Chris is 90% right. Raiders are over .500 which you are wrong about. But if both teams had a better quarterback they will be one of the best teams in the NFL. Again I agree with Chris Minnesota takes the W.

@Chris, For one thing the Raiders are over 500 there record is 5-4 and would probably be 6-3 if campbell doesn't get injured. And another thing Palmer is way better then decent maybe not elite but good much better then Ponder. Oh and Raiders will win on Sunday.

Jared Allen could be an issue for Palmer. Oakland has the weapons to win against a team that only has two days to pre-pare. If Palmer gets protection I think he has a 300 yd.+ day. Oakland is a solid play.

lol seriously? I was going off by the way you are posting. Carson Palmer and Ponder are not in the same level, and your underestimating Palmer by saying they need a decent QB. That's cool, its your opinion. But it shows how ignorant you are and know nothing about football. Not just NFL, football in general.

As a Raiders fan, I'm actually reasonably happy with the addition of Palmer. Of course when talking about he value of the pick-up it becomes a different matter, but I think he's showing signs of being back to a very good QB.

He was excellent against the Chargers, very accurate, hooked up with Moore impressively and infact most of the offence, the only real blemish was the pick, which was a result of him being blindsided and hit as he threw.

I think he's a massive upgrade over Campbell, who was solid and dependable but not able to get so much out of our offence. We have some talented but unproven receivers who can be really dangerous if given the service. Palmer is doing so and we're seeing far more TD passes from him than Campbell.

As for this game specifically, I expect the Raiders to win, even on the road. McFadden should be back, Bush is in great form too, and the Vikings run D didn't impress me against the Packers, who don't have any amazing RB options to be honest.

The passing defence looked awful, of course it WAS Rodgers throwing to an elite receiving bunch, but they looked bads enough that I would think Palmer could similarly pick them apart. Just like the Vikings secondary didn't match up to the Packers big receivers, I don't feel they match up well with the speed of our offence.

I'm not particularly worried about Ponder throwing the ball. He lacks options, and the OL has gaps. The Packers were able to put an enormous amount of pressure on him last night, and the likes of Houston and Wimbley should be able to do the same.

Of course, the major issue is AP. Our rushing D has been so poor this year that he could easily rack up 150 and 2/3 TD's and leave us out of sight. Hopefully we just stack the box and stop him running, and hopefully we steal an early lead and force the Vikings to throw more often than they would perhaps like.

I'd say Ponder and Palmer are both "Decent" Brady and Rodgers are elite. Both teams just have a lot of holes. Minnesota desperately needs a LT, RG, #1WR, another LB to cover and a completely new secondary(depending what happens with Chris Cook).

I expect the Raiders to win against my Vikings. They should have Run DMC back, so him and Bush will maul us, and then Palmer will kill us with his receivers that are just too fast for our bums in the secondary...especially with Winfield out for the year now.

Someone please give these to teams a decent quarterback. God...If both teams had a Tom Brady or a Aaron Rodgers they might actually be over .500 MINN wins in front of there home fans.
