Sunday Smackdown: Lions at Saints

Saints won but I hope im not the only one who thinks the referees in that game were BSing the Lions.

@Chris: Detroit straight up, in this one?? Really??? I mean "on any given Sunday," but this Sunday??? In New Orleans with Brees and the boys??? I guess we will see on Sunday night. Good luck to all this week!

This game is interesting and should make the nature of this Lions team a bit more clear. Detroit is missing some key pieces on Defense in Suh (and most likely) Delmas and Houston. Can their passing defense continue to be good enough to slow Brees down? I suspect that they will hold the Saints to just under 30 points. With a healthy secondary I don't think the Saints can score more than 24 on them. Sadly that is about as well as any team in the NFL can consistently play D against an offense like the Saints. That said the real question is what the Lions offense will do. They are billed as high flying by some, but I am unmoved by their performance so far this year. In 4 of their 6 games against likely playoff teams they've scored less than 20 points. The two teams they scored more on were Dallas and Chicago (in the Monday night win), both of whom are borderline playoff teams at this point. Frankly, against good teams this offense doesn't get it done. They can't run, and were it not for Calvin Johnson everyone would say that Matt Stafford is nothing more than a pedestrian NFL QB. At this point in his development he is no better than John Kitna was during his 4500 yd. season in Detroit. The truth hurts me as a Lion fan, but I am not blind to it. I think the Lions play well enough to make the score interesting, but just can't get it done in the Big Easy.

Lock in the under if you bet totals, because the Lions don't go over 51 on totals unless they are trouncing a pathetic team or Tony Romo throws them 3 picks. Neither of these will happen Sunday night.

Also, most of the action is on the Saints in Vegas with the Lions getting 9. Either Vegas screwed up, or you gotta take the points.

Brees and the Saints just too much for the Lions now. Look for a lot of points and a lot of yardage from both teams. Might come down to who throws the most picks in this game. I look for the Super six quaterback at home to have fewer errors. Saints 40 Detroit 27.
