Sunday Smackdown: Lions at Vikings
|
Welcome to the new Sunday Smackdown section, a place for you to talk trash and discuss each individual NFL game during the week leading up to it and while the game is going on.
Unlike NFL.com's GameCenter, almost anything goes here. Certain words - the obvious ones - are bleeped out, but everything else is allowed and encouraged.

I do not see the Vikings scoreing 20+ points in this game. I see the Lions dominatting the Line of scrimage on Def/Off. McNabb continueing to struggle. He has looked very slow... unsure of himself with his legs and when he throws the ball.
Megatron, "The MAN named Suh" and stafford will have a very nice lead early and run the clock out when they have the ball. I really see the Lions controlling this game from the start and never looking back. Lions -3.5pts (3 Units) Under 45.5 Lions 27, Vikings 16

Bookmaker has a fantasy bet for who scores more points Jahvid Best (+9) or Adrian Peterson (-9). I plugged the projected stats from footballguys.com into the bookmaker scoring system and the two are projected pretty much identical this week. Also, I think if either team gets way ahead forcing the other team to abandon the run that team will be the Lions. So, it seems like betting on Best is pretty good. I've never made a bet on fantasy points though, so I made it a small unit, but this is something I'm gonna track.

mkopp50,
You are correct that AP has not "struggled" against the Lions lately, or ever to the best of my recollection, and Kansas City is horrible. That said, Tampa has a better defense (and team) than the Vikings. Its going to be a rough Sunday at the Metrodome. In today's NFL passing > rushing, and Minnesota is a one dimensional rushing team. AP will probably get his, but it will be an otherwise one sided affair. Time to wake up. Good teams don't blow 17 and 10 point 3rd quarter leads in consecutive weeks. I don't think the Lions are that good of a team. They'll be on the playoff bubble, but they are that much better than the vikings.

The Lions are playing a angry Viking team that blew 17-0 and 17-7 leads in the third quarter, they are not a bad team and could easily be 2-0.
The metrodome will be rocking and loud, the lions have stunk historically against the Vikings, and I disagree whole heartedly that Adrian Peterson " Has had struggles against the Lions as of late"???? whow cares about the end of the season game he had Last year, when every one one Minnesota was hurt or thinking about the golf season. Adrian had his longest run of his career last year the first game in Minnesota againt the lions. Minnesota will show up and get the Win at Home....There still the Fricken Lions, Kansas City sucks anyways, and Minnesota's defense is better than the two teams defending the Lions the first two weeks. Minnesota 28-17.

This looks like a trap right off the bat. But looking deeper sometimes the public is right , especially when they bet a good team vs a bad team. And that looks like the case, this Lions team is on a high and are rolling, Minnesota is like Percy Harvin - Part Time. Sometimes just betting the better team vs a crappy one is good enough when its only 3.5. Does not look like a 3 point game to me either. Like the Lions. Vikings bettors might be lucky enough to cry about a tough loss afterwords but I will be cashing a ticket hopefully.

The Vikings don't have enough to hang in this one, even in their own house. The Lions OC (Linehan) has been doing a good job scheming pass protection thus far, and the line has executed pretty well only occasionally allowing pressure and so far surrendering zero sacks (Stafford is the only top ten statistical QB at this point that hasn't been sacked). It hasn't gotten any pub, but the Lions' linebackers have been dominating opponents thus far, most likely because so much focus is on containing that vicious front four. In a nut shell, the Vikings won't be able move the ball, and the Lions will continue to score essentially at will except when they face exceptional pass rushes (which MN does not have at this point).
I think the line will be too conservative on this one, and the Vegas action will probably push it even farther leading up to game time because the public doesn't take the Lions seriously yet. They've been bad so long that catching one borderline playoff team off-guard and trouncing a team that is garbage isn't selling the general public that they are a dominant team. Add to it the Lions horriffic history in Minneapolis and I understand the logic, but I thik it is dead wrong on this one. Lions 28 Vikings 14

"No Psychological Edge Found"?
Adrian Peterson has had troubles against Detroit as late, Jared Allen and Gosder Cherilus seem to have some kind of schoolboy rivalry going on, McNabb will want to make a statement with his new team after Shanahan gave up on him against these very same Lions last year. The Vikings have lost two close and are playing a divisional opponent at home, while the Lions are sitting fat off two wins. There is absolutely a psychological edge in the Vikings favor in this game. They're going to lose, but still, the smart money bets on the Vikings to fight hard -- but the Lions to win and cover. :D
