This game seems to point at 24 to 24. I would say take the points. Drink a beer and enjoy just knowing your money isnt on this game.

@wolfman: nice post. The only thing I can take issue with is San Fran potentially not "playing out" for this game. Remember the 49ers at this point are only 1 game back of Green Bay for the all important home field advantage in the playoffs. If this was a road game, maybe, they could be complacent. At home against a very challenging foe, I expect 49ers to go all out. Love the UNDER in this game, especially in a ten point teaser!! Good luck to all going forward.

I agree that the effectiveness of the Giants run defense against 9ers running game will be important factor in determining winner of the game. However,
I disagree with you that the game means more to 49ers than giants. A little peak at the schedule shows you that the giants schedule is very tough over next 4 weeks and cowboys have a cakewalk the rest of the way. So the 2 game lead giants have over cowboys is very tenuous and each game is critical to win the division.

Conversely, the 49ers are 5 games up on 2nd place Seahawks, have absolutely no chance of being caught in their terrible division and can glide home easily. Especially consider that they have the big part of their easy divisional schedule in front of them and they have really nothing to play for this Sunday.

Giants have the added motivation that they have (well earned) reputation as chokers in second half of season (Coughlin's mantra for the team this year is "Finish") and you have a game that means more to Giants than 49ers.

how can you say this game means nothing? to the giants....the #2 seed is on the line for both teams, plus the giants have the hardest schedule left in the league....they can't overlook any game that's left and they just came off their best game of the season....giants defense will show up and the 49ers will look like the team from years past

People say the Chargers are a overrated team. I believe the Giants are the most overrated team in the NFL. 49ers win big.

I see this as one of the most lopsided games of the weekend. Using the Bill James Log5 win probability and combining that with pythagorean win expectation, and adjusting for homefield advantage, the 49ers have an 83% chance of winning this game. And that's just cold numbers. This line inflates the Giants worth because they just beat the overrated Patriots. And as Walter pointed out, the 49ers and 1st year coach Jim Harbaugh have something to prove against a up and down Giants team who just threw everything they had at the Patriots.

The 49ers do have the ridiculous blow out win over the Buccaneers that inflates their win expectation. But if I adjust that to a more reasonable blowout of just 17 point (20-3 rather than 48-3), they still stand a 76% chance of winning this game, against the Giants who are exceeding their win expectation by 1.7 games.

So, I think this is a lopsided game, and given that the 49ers only have to swallow 4 points, I see it as a fairly big play.
