This series of mock draft posts uses the FantasyPros Mock Draft Simulator and will be feature different settings and draft positions to give us a look at how they play out. For this week’s mock draft, I’ll be bringing you a 2QB league draft.

The question with 2QB leagues always boils down to, where do I draft my quarterbacks? I’ve always been a guy who even in 2QB leagues would grab a top running back and then fill in my quarterbacks in Rounds 2 to 5ish. But so far this season, if Andrew Luck or Aaron Rodgers is on the board, I am taking one of them. But after them, I find it hard to take a quarterback in the first round. I feel that tactic is still up for debate, but as long as you grab quarterbacks quickly after the first roudn, you can still be fairly solid there. But don’t wait. I’ve tried it many times, and watching those mid-tier quarterbacks fall away in the second and third rounds can be painful.

I believe the following mock draft went okay, but not great. I’ll go through and give the reasoning behind my picks and look at some picks I wish I would have made and some I’m glad I didn’t.

Settings: 12 teams, Standard Scoring — 2 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, WR/RB/TE, D/ST, 7 BN

Round 11:

11.1 Steve Smith, BAL
11.2 Ryan Mathews, PHI
11.3 Devonta Freeman, ATL
11.4 David Johnson, ARI
11.5 Anquan Boldin, SF
11.6 Darren McFadden, DAL
11.7 David Cobb, TEN
11.8 Andre Williams, NYG
11.9 DeAngelo Williams, PIT
11.10 Jay Ajayi, MIA
11.11 John Brown, ARI
11.12 Marcus Mariota, TEN

Boldin is ageless and is Colin Kaepernick’s favorite target. As long as Boldin stays healthy, another 80+ receptions, 1,000+ yards and 5-8 touchdowns is a virtual lock, and this late in a draft, you aren’t going to find that anywhere else.

Should I have gone with Marcus Mariota or Blake Bortles to secure a backup here? Probably.

There are plenty of iffy running back committees or at least running back battles to watch this fall, but no matter what, many of these situations are going to remain murky. Just in this round, we have Devonta Freeman, who will be battling rookie Tevin Coleman; Ryan Matthews, who will be behind DeMarco Murray, but could still see enough work to have some value; David Johnson, who will be vying for position against Andre Ellington; David Cobb, who could easily work his way ahead of Bishop Sankey; Andre Williams, who could be the goal-line back for the red-zone heavy Giants; and Jay Ajayi, who has the ability to cut into Lamar Miller’s workload. And that’s just in this round! I have the guys I think will hold the most value in these battles, but ADP and training-camp reports will start to push my prognostications around as we get closer to the season.

Round 12:

12.1 Danny Woodhead, SD
12.2 Reggie Bush, SF
12.3 Seattle Seahawks, SEA
12.4 Blake Bortles, JAC
12.5 Roy Helu, OAK
12.6 Knile Davis, KC
12.7 Victor Cruz, NYG
12.8 Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TB
12.9 Davante Adams, GB
12.10 Geno Smith, NYJ
12.11 Brian Quick, STL
12.12 Darren Sproles, PHI

My risky pick of Josh Hill led me to go with another risky, but high-upside tight end in Austin Seferian-Jenkins. He has a good offensive coordinator in Kyle Shanahan, whose teams have averaged over 120 targets to their tight ends. Seferian-Jenkins was recovering from a foot injury last season, and that problem appeared to bring on more injuries as he tried to play himself back into shape. Seferian-Jenkins has looked great so far this offseason and looks to be ready for a good season.

Round 13:

13.1 Heath Miller, PIT
13.2 Larry Donnell, NYG
13.3 Percy Harvin, BUF
13.4 Owen Daniels, DEN
13.5 Jerick McKinnon, MIN
13.6 Dwayne Allen, IND
13.7 Kendall Wright, TEN
13.8 Mark Sanchez, PHI
13.9 St. Louis Rams, STL
13.10 Trent Richardson, OAK
13.11 Coby Fleener, IND
13.12 Rueben Randle, NYG

If you are worried about Adrian Peterson’s year off and 30-year-old bones, then you better be grabbing McKinnon. McKinnon looked good last season as he split time with Matt Asiata, averaging 4.8 yards per carry and catching 27 passes while getting vultured at the goal line by Asiata. McKinnon is a far superior player to Asiata, and if Peterson were to break something on his body, it would be McKinnon taking over.

Round 14:

14.1 Tyler Eifert, CIN
14.2 Marvin Jones, CIN
14.3 DeVante Parker, MIA
14.4 Kenny Stills, MIA
14.5 Kyle Rudolph, MIN
14.6 Vernon Davis, SF
14.7 Ryan Fitzpatrick, NYJ
14.8 Theo Riddick, DET
14.9 Buffalo Bills, BUF
14.10 Terrance West, CLE
14.11 Houston Texans, HOU
14.12 Fred Jackson, BUF

Riddick is a leftover of my PPR ways. I love his skill set, but he doesn’t have much room with Ameer Abdullah in the mix now. It will take an injury to Bell or Abdullah before Riddick can use his receiving skills. This was a hasty pick on my part, and someone like Fred Jackson or Montee Ball would have a better stash-and-wait running back.

Round 15:

15.1 Terrance Williams, DAL
15.2 Montee Ball, DEN
15.3 Jordan Reed, WAS
15.4 Cody Latimer, DEN
15.5 Brian Hoyer, HOU
15.6 Denard Robinson, JAC
15.7 Cameron Artis-Payne, CAR
15.8 Steve Johnson, SD
15.9 Alfred Blue, HOU
15.10 Charles Clay, BUF
15.11 Dan Herron, IND
15.12 Philadelphia Eagles, PHI

Well, I finally got a backup quarterback in the 15th round and as you can see, he sucks at football, and his name is Brian Hoyer. Well, he doesn’t suck as bad as I do at football, but you know what I’m saying. I chose him mainly due to the fact that he should be Houston’s starting quarterback, and DeAndre Hopkins can catch about anything thrown his way.

Round 16:

16.1 Jermaine Kearse, SEA
16.2 Christine Michael, SEA
16.3 Lorenzo Taliaferro, BAL
16.4 Jared Cook, STL
16.5 Stevan Ridley, NYJ
16.6 Arizona Cardinals, Ari
16.7 New York Jets, NYJ
16.8 Donte Moncrief, IND
16.9 Jimmy Garoppolo, NE
16.10 Denver Broncos, DEN
16.11 James Starks, GB
16.12 Toby Gerhart, JAC
With Andre Johnson in the fold, Donte Moncrief has fallen down the Colts’ corporate ladder into purgatory. But the good news is that they plan on using more three- and four-wide receiver sets this season, and that puts Moncrief right in the thick of things. Coby Fleener heads to the sidelines and Moncrief spreads out with T.Y. Hilton, Johnson and Phillip Dorsett in such a scenario.

Round 17:

17.1 New England Patriots, NE
17.2 E.J. Manuel, BUF
17.3 Zac Stacy, NYJ
17.4 Ryan Williams, DAL
17.5 Detroit Lions, DET
17.6 Jonas Gray, NE
17.7 Tyrod Taylor, BUF
17.8 Carolina Panthers, CAR
17.9 Javorius Allen, BAL
17.10 Josh McCown, CLE
17.11 Green Bay Packers, GB
17.12 Ahmad Bradshaw,
Sure, the Lions lost Ndamukong Suh, but Haloti Ngata isn’t a sack of wet towels either. Last year, Detroit finished as the fifth-best fantasy defense and held opposing running backs to a league-low 3.17 yards per carry.

Wrap-up

So, there were plenty of changes I would have made in the same situations, but that’s what mock drafts are for. We want to try out different strategies and help solidify how we feel about one player versus another.

If you have any requests for different settings to mock then throw them in the comments or hit me up on Twitter. You can check out how the other teams came out here.
