2015 Fantasy Football Rankings - Quarterbacks (Sept. 10):
Top 10 | 11-20 | 21-35

  1. Aaron Rodgers, QB, Packers. Bye: 7.
AUG. 23 UPDATE: Aaron Rodgers is getting a very slight stock down with Jordy Nelson out for the year. I’m not going to drop him much though, as Rodgers will be able to transform another receiver into a Pro Bowler. Still, there will be some sort of impact.

AUG. 18 UPDATE: A few days ago, I mentioned a report that the Packers want to run a faster-paced offense this year. Well, mission accomplished so far; they ran 33 plays in the first quarter in their preseason opener, which is well ahead of last season’s average. If the Packers stick to this strategy, Rodgers will easily be the No. 1 fantasy quarterback.

AUG. 14 UPDATE: The Packers were 21st in offensive plays per game last season, but that sounds like it’s going to change dramatically in 2015. ESPN is reporting that Green Bay wants to play at a faster pace, which is great news for Aaron Rodgers and all of his weapons.

Aaron Rodgers pretty much met fantasy expectations last season, falling 300 yards short of his predicted yardage, but throwing five fewer interceptions than anticipated. Rodgers was responsible for just five picks, bouncing back from a 2013 campaign in which he played just nine games. There’s no reason to think that he won’t be a top fantasy quarterback this year. He’s well worth a second-round pick.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 4,700 passing yards. 37 passing TDs. 9 INTs. 240 rushing yards. 2 rushing TDs.
Projected 2015 Fantasy Points (ESPN Scoring): 354.

  2. Andrew Luck, QB, Colts. Bye: 10.
Andrew Luck emerged as one of the top fantasy quarterbacks this past season. He threw for 4,761 yards and scored 43 touchdowns (40 passing, 3 rushing), and he’s only going to get better as he and his young weapons develop together. Luck probably should be the first quarterback off the board.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 4,600 passing yards. 38 passing TDs. 13 INTs. 250 rushing yards. 3 rushing TDs.
Projected 2015 Fantasy Points (ESPN Scoring): 353.

  3. Russell Wilson, QB, Seahawks. Bye: 9.
AUG. 30 UPDATE: Russell Wilson finished 7-of-15 for just 56 yards in the third preseason game, meaning he had an anemic YPA of 3.7. Sadly, some of this was against the San Diego backups. He went 2-of-7 for 21 yards versus the reserves, as one of the incompletions was nearly picked. Wilson was victimized by a Jermaine Kearse drop, but it was just yet another brutal performance by him, thanks mostly to the horrible offensive line.

Russell Wilson was a great fantasy option last year because of his rushing numbers. He scrambled for 849 yards and six touchdowns. It’s unrealistic to expect him to run for that much yardage again, but perhaps his passing numbers will be better in 2015 with Jimmy Graham now on the roster.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 3,600 passing yards. 26 passing TDs. 10 INTs. 560 rushing yards. 4 rushing TDs.
Projected 2015 Fantasy Points (ESPN Scoring): 308.

  4. Drew Brees, QB, Saints. Bye: 11.
AUG. 23 UPDATE: Drew Brees had much more success than Tom Brady in the second preseason game, going a near-perfect 8-of-10 for 159 yards and two touchdowns in just a quarter-and-a-half of action. One of the incompletions was nearly a score to Brandon Coleman, but Devin McCourty did a great job of punching the ball out at the last second. It’s only the preseason, but New Orleans should feel optimistic about Brees’ 2015 campaign after watching this contest.

Drew Brees threw for 4,952 yards and 33 touchdowns in 2015. The problem was that he had so many dud performances throughout the year, as his team was incredibly inconsistent. Perhaps Brees will bounce back, but there are two things working against him: First, Jimmy Graham was shipped off. Second, he turned 36 this offseason, so he could continue to decline.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 4,800 passing yards. 34 passing TDs. 16 INTs. 50 rushing yards. 1 rushing TD.
Projected 2015 Fantasy Points (ESPN Scoring): 307.

  5. Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Steelers. Bye: 11.
AUG. 28 UPDATE: Ben Roethlisberger should still be a top-six fantasy quarterback in the wake of Martavis Bryant’s suspension, but his numbers could dip a little bit. Remember, Roethlisberger also won’t have Le’Veon Bell for the first two contests, so he could get off to a slow start.

Ben Roethlisberger is coming off the best season in his career, throwing for 4,952 yards and 32 touchdowns. This was no surprise, as he enjoyed throwing the ball to a talented receiving corps, all while playing behind a skilled offensive line. There’s no reason to think Roethlisberger will regress in 2015.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 4,680 passing yards. 30 passing TDs. 10 INTs. 50 rushing yards. 0 rushing TDs.
Projected 2015 Fantasy Points (ESPN Scoring): 296.

  6. Matthew Stafford, QB, Lions. Bye: 9.
JUNE 24 UPDATE: Matthew Stafford has looked better at OTAs this offseason, displaying improved accuracy. Stafford, now in his second year in Joe Lombardi’s scheme, could rebound, especially if his offensive line holds up. The Lions spent their first-round pick on a blocker, so Stafford will almost certainly be better in 2015 than he was this past season.

Matthew Stafford threw just 12 interceptions this past season, which was down from 19 in 2013. The problem was that he had just 22 touchdowns, thanks to a poor offensive line that couldn’t protect him. The Lions addressed that area this offseason, which should really help Stafford’s fantasy output. Also, keep in mind that his defense will be worse next season, so he’ll have to throw more often.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 4,650 passing yards. 30 passing TDs. 15 INTs. 70 rushing yards. 2 rushing TDs.
Projected 2015 Fantasy Points (ESPN Scoring): 295.

  7. Tony Romo, QB, Cowboys. Bye: 6.
Tony Romo played well, but disappointed his fantasy owners in 2014 because he couldn’t even get to 4,000 passing yards. The problem was that Dallas ran the ball exceptionally. The team was also ahead in most of its contests, so Romo didn’t get a chance to compile garbage yardage. Expect both of those things to change in 2015.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 4,350 passing yards. 32 passing TDs. 11 INTs. 40 rushing yards. 1 rushing TD.
Projected 2015 Fantasy Points (ESPN Scoring): 290.

  8. Peyton Manning, QB, Broncos. Bye: 7.
AUG. 31 UPDATE: Peyton Manning finished 14-of-21 for 124 yards and an interception in a single half of action against the 49ers. He once again spent most of his time dinking and dunking, and some of his passes were way off. It’s as if the 2014 season never ended, though Manning can’t use his injury as an excuse any longer. He’s an overrated fantasy commodity; I wouldn’t touch him at his fourth-round ADP.

JUNE 22 UPDATE: Peyton Manning will be negatively affected by Ryan Clady’s season-ending injury. Manning had issues down the stretch of the 2014 season because he was banged up. With Clady out, Manning will be hit more frequently, which could result in another poor finish.

Peyton Manning couldn’t commit to returning to football following the press conference after his latest playoff choke job. His arm looked like it was decaying toward the end of the regular season. He didn’t have a single good fantasy performance following Week 12. He was dealing with a torn quad, but Manning will be an overrated commodity in 2015, given that he’s now 39. It doesn’t help that his offensive line is complete garbage.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 4,300 passing yards. 36 passing TDs. 14 INTs. 0 rushing yards. 0 rushing TDs.
Projected 2015 Fantasy Points (ESPN Scoring): 288.

  9. Matt Ryan, QB, Falcons. Bye: 10.
AUG. 22 UPDATE: Want to know how sharp Matt Ryan has been this preseason? He has more starts thus far than incompletions. Ryan, who went 6-of-6 last week, was 4-of-5 in his second contest. He accumulated 75 yards and a score, leading the team on two touchdown drives, though the second was a short one, thanks to Devin Hester’s long return. Ryan nearly had two touchdown passes, but Julio Jones was interfered with in the end zone. It appears as though Ryan is going to have a big year, as the Falcons are finally not having terrible luck with injuries.

Matt Ryan posted solid fantasy numbers last year, but he hasn’t been able to match his 2012 stats (4,719 yards, 32 touchdowns) because of offensive line issues. The Falcons have so many needs that they failed to fix their front, so Ryan will continue being a low-end QB1.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 4,600 passing yards. 29 passing TDs. 14 INTs. 90 rushing yards. 1 rushing TD.
Projected 2015 Fantasy Points (ESPN Scoring): 287.

  10. Ryan Tannehill, QB, Dolphins. Bye: 5.
AUG. 30 UPDATE: Ryan Tannehill was sharp once again, despite the fact that Branden Albert was out of the lineup versus Atlanta. Tannehill went 15-of-19 for 145 yards and a touchdown in less than a half of action. One of his misfires was a miscommunication with Rishard Matthews, while another was a rare Jarvis Landry drop, so Tannehill could have easily gone 17-of-19. Definitely an improved passer, Tannehill seems poised for a solid fantasy campaign as a low-end QB1, thanks as well to his excellent scrambling ability.

Ryan Tannehill improved under offensive coordinator Bill Lazor’s tutelage. A bolstered offensive line helped as well. He became a decent fantasy quarterback, thanks in part to his rushing ability, and he’ll remain a borderline QB1 in 2015.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 4,050 passing yards. 26 passing TDs. 11 INTs. 300 rushing yards. 2 rushing TDs.
Projected 2015 Fantasy Points (ESPN Scoring): 286.
