2015 Fantasy Football Rankings - Tight Ends (Sept. 10):
Top 10 | 11-20 | 21-45

  1. Heath Miller, TE, Steelers. Bye: 11.
Heath Miller has usually been much better in real life than he’s been in fantasy. Case in point: Miller has just four total touchdowns over the past two seasons despite being a reliable weapon for Ben Roethlisberger.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 64 catches. 720 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 96.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 160.

  2. Eric Ebron, TE, Lions. Bye: 9.
AUG. 12 UPDATE: Eric Ebron had a miserable rookie campaign, but it appears as though he’s getting better. He had a strong training camp, and he was one of Matthew Stafford’s top targets during a scrimmage recently.

The Lions are expecting a big leap from Eric Ebron next season, as the rookie tight end caught 25 passes in 2014. He probably won’t be a TE1, but he’ll at least be worthy of a fantasy roster spot as he potentially establishes himself as Matthew Stafford’s tertiary weapon.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 57 catches. 700 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 94.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 151.

  3. Ladarius Green, TE, Chargers. Bye: 10.
JULY 3 UPDATE: Fantasy owners have been waiting for Ladarius Green to get his chance for years. The day has finally come, as Antonio Gates has been suspended for four games. Green will start for sure until Gates returns, and if his production meets his raw talent level, he’ll remain in the opening lineup. He’s worth drafting late as a TE2 with loads of upside.

Ladarius Green has the potential to be a fantasy star, but he needs Antonio Gates to go away first. Gates is now 35, so it’ll happen soon. In the meantime, Green is better off undrafted.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 26 catches. 350 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 93.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 139.

  4. Scott Chandler, TE, Patriots. Bye: 4.
SEPT. 9 UPDATE: Scott Chandler is expected to have a bigger role in two-tight end formations with Brandon LaFell out. Gronkowski doesn’t have the greatest injury history, either, so Chandler makes for a nice TE2.

Scott Chandler needed to be upgraded, as he was just a marginal starter at best. He signed with the Patriots, so he’ll only be relevant if Rob Gronkowski gets hurt.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 52 catches. 610 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 91.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 143.

  5. Larry Donnell, TE, Giants. Bye: 11.
Larry Donnell was popular waiver-wire pick-up early in the season after he put together some big games. However, he disappointed in the second half of the season because he was used to block more. It’s unclear if that’ll change, given that William Beatty is injured.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 58 catches. 600 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 90.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 148.

  6. Antonio Gates, TE, Chargers. Bye: 10.
JULY 3 UPDATE: Antonio Gates has been suspended for four games. That ordinarily wouldn’t make me completely write off a player, but with Ladarius Green stepping in, there’s a chance that Gates could take a back seat if the young tight end meets expectations. He’s now just a late-round flier.

Antonio Gates came out of nowhere last year to catch 12 touchdowns after scoring just four the year before. That’s not going to happen again. First of all, it’s highly unlikely that Gates will make it through another season completely healthy. Second, he’ll turn 35 in June, so his body will break down even further sometime soon.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 44 catches. 550 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 88.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 132.

  7. Dwayne Allen, TE, Colts. Bye: 10.
Dwayne Allen was a touchdown machine in his third season, as he snagged eight scores on just 29 receptions in 13 games. Allen will continue to get looks in the end zone, but it would help if he were a bigger part of the offense otherwise.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 38 catches. 440 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 86.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 124.

  8. Maxx Williams, TE, Ravens. Bye: 9.
AUG. 22 UPDATE: Maxx Williams has reportedly been upstaged in training camp by tight end Nick Boyle, according to the Baltimore Sun. Williams made an impressive play in the preseason opener, but was on the field with the practice-squad scrubs. That’s not good news for his 2015 outlook.

It’s hard to like rookie tight ends in re-draft formats, but Maxx Williams could end up becoming a dependable target for Joe Flacco sooner rather than later. He figures to be a highly productive weapon for a long time.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 41 catches. 510 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 75.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 116.

  9. Josh Hill, TE, Saints. Bye: 11.
AUG. 23 UPDATE: Someone else who generated lots of hype earlier was Josh Hill. The Saints, however, plan to run a tight end by committee, and it was Ben Watson who got a couple of looks in the end zone from Drew Brees in the second preseason game. Hill scored later, but caught the pass from Luke McCown.

Josh Hill will be Jimmy Graham’s replacement as New Orleans’ starting tight end. Hill has potential to be a TE1, but don’t get your hopes too high; he’s not nearly as talented as Graham was. It also hurt that basically everyone in the Saints’ organization has been saying that Graham will be replaced by a committee.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 35 catches. 490 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 73.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 108.

  10. Mychal Rivera, TE, Raiders. Bye: 6.
Mychal Rivera had a strong stretch in which he caught 21 passes in three games this past season. He was worth a look in PPR leagues before Oakland drafted Clive Walford in the third round.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 51 catches. 500 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 72.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 123.

  11. Clive Walford, TE, Raiders. Bye: 6.
Derek Carr loves checking the ball down, so I’d expect him to lean on Clive Walford heavily. There’s no guarantee that Walford will do much as a rookie, however, and it’s unknown how long Carr will last for the long haul.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 35 catches. 460 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 64.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 99.

  12. Rob Housler, TE, Browns. Bye: 11.
AUG. 14 UPDATE: Rob Housler continued to struggle. He saw just one target in the preseason opener, and it wasn’t even from Josh McCown. The pass, which was thrown by Johnny Manziel, was knocked away. Housler has zero fantasy relevance.

AUG. 12 UPDATE: Rob Housler has been called out for his poor hands by head coach Mike Pettine. There was some hype around Housler when he went to the Browns, but he was never a realistic fantasy option because he’s just not that good.

The Browns brought in the injury-prone Rob Housler to be their starting tight end. Housler has never logged more than 454 receiving yards in a single season.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 38 catches. 450 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 63.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 101.

  13. Marcedes Lewis, TE, Jaguars. Bye: 8.
Marcedes Lewis could be cut this offseason. He’s not a fantasy option either way.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 36 catches. 440 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 62.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 98.

  14. Brent Celek, TE, Eagles. Bye: 8.
Brent Celek will have some nice games once in a while, but he’s strictly just a blocker at this stage of his career. There’s not much to see here from a fantasy perspective.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 33 catches. 390 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 57.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 90.

  15. Luke Willson, TE, Seahawks. Bye: 9.
The athletic Luke Willson had some solid games down the stretch, though he didn’t catch a single pass in the Super Bowl. His fantasy potential was shot to hell in the wake of the Jimmy Graham trade.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 26 catches. 330 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 45.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 71.

  16. C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Texans. Bye: 9.
C.J. Fiedorowicz isn’t worth drafting, but he’ll be a bigger part of the offense in his second season, and he’s worth monitoring as a consequence.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 24 catches. 260 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 44.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 68.

  17. Andrew Quarless, TE, Packers. Bye: 7.
Andrew Quarless played behind Richard Rodgers down the stretch, so he’s no longer a fantasy factor.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 24 catches. 270 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 39.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 63.

  18. Levine Toilolo, TE, Falcons. Bye: 10.
Levine Toilolo didn’t do much from a fantasy perspective in his first year as a starter. It’s unclear how much work he’ll get in Atlanta’s offense.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 27 catches. 250 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 37.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 64.

  19. Dennis Pitta, TE, Ravens. Bye: 9.
Dennis Pitta has played just seven games in the past couple of years. He’s coming off hip surgery and may not play during the 2015 season. It’s a shame, as Pitta would be a top-10 tight end otherwise.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 0 catches. 0 yards. 0 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 30.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 30.

  20. Jermaine Gresham, TE, Cardinals. Bye: 0.
Jermaine Gresham signed with the Cardinals, but isn’t expected to contribute much in terms of a pass-catcher.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 25 catches. 200 yards. 1 total TD.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 26.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 51.

  21. Virgil Green, TE, Broncos. Bye: 7.
Owen Daniels is the favorite to lead the Denver tight ends in receptions, but Virgil Green will be in the mix. Green is more of a blocker, but he has the athleticism to be productive in the passing attack.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 12 catches. 200 yards. 1 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 26.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 38.

  22. Troy Niklas, TE, Cardinals. Bye: 9.
A lingering ankle injury ruined Troy Niklas’ rookie campaign, as he was limited to just three catches all year. He’ll be much better if healthy in 2015, though only by default. I wouldn’t count on him for fantasy production until he proves himself.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 10 catches. 140 yards. 1 total TD.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 20.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 30.

  23. Niles Paul, TE, Redskins. Bye: 8.
AUG. 14 UPDATE: Niles Paul will be out for the year with a dislocated ankle.

JUNE 14 UPDATE: Niles Paul had a couple of big performances last year when Jordan Reed was hurt. It appears as though Paul will have more opportunities with Reed dealing with another knee issue. Paul, who has looked good in OTAs thus far, is worth adding in the final rounds.

Niles Paul is worth monitoring on waivers if Jordan Reed gets hurt. Paul has proven that he can produce in Reed’s absence, and Reed gets hurt a lot. The problem is that Paul does next to nothing when Reed is on the field.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 0 catches. 0 yards. 0 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 0.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 0.

  24. Jace Amaro, TE, Jets. Bye: 5.
  25. SEPT. 2 UPDATE: Jace Amaro is out for the season, which only affects 2-TE leagues. Check out my Disaster Grades for more.

Jace Amaro had a 10-68-1 line in one game this past season, but didn’t do much else, finishing with 38 receptions, 345 yards and two scores. Prone to some mental blunders, Amaro’s production will never be very high until the Jets solve the quarterback dilemma.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 0 catches. 0 yards. 0 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 0.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 0.
