2015 Fantasy Football Rankings - Tight Ends (Sept. 10):
Top 10 | 11-20 | 21-45

  1. Zach Ertz, TE, Eagles. Bye: 8.
AUG. 20 UPDATE: Chip Kelly told the media that he expects Zach Ertz back for the season opener. Well, Kelly was apparently full of crap again when it came to diagnosing injuries, as a surgeon told CSN Philly that Ertz could miss Week 1. Either way, Ertz should be back at some point in September, making him a low-end TE1.

AUG. 15 UPDATE: Zach Ertz will undergo a procedure on his groin and will be out about a month, perhaps more. Ertz is saying that he hopes to be ready for the season opener, but he’ll likely miss the first two or three contests.

If Chip Kelly is an offensive genius, why doesn’t he know how to properly utilize Zach Ertz? The talented tight end didn’t see enough snaps and targets, finishing with 58 grabs for 702 yards and three touchdowns. He flashed his potential in a 15-catch outing in Week 16, so perhaps that’s a sign of things to come. His outlook is better with Jeremy Maclin gone.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 61 catches. 700 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 106.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 167.

  2. Coby Fleener, TE, Colts. Bye: 10.
Coby Fleener makes mental blunders all the time, but he still managed to catch 51 balls for 774 yards and eight touchdowns in his third season. It’s worth noting that his biggest game of the year came when Dwayne Allen was out of the lineup. Still, Fleener has established himself as a borderline TE1 option because he’ll be a threat to score touchdowns as long as Andrew Luck is under center.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 51 catches. 630 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 105.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 156.

  3. Jordan Cameron, TE, Dolphins. Bye: 5.
Jordan Cameron signed with the Dolphins this offseason. Perhaps they’ll actually utilize his talent effectively. Then again, Cameron will always be an injury risk, so have a good backup plan in mind if you draft him.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 62 catches. 740 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 104.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 166.

  4. Charles Clay, TE, Bills. Bye: 8.
AUG. 21 UPDATE: Charles Clay converted on his only target in the second preseason game, snatching an 11-yard reception. However, I want to give him a stock down because it appears as though Tyrod Taylor will start. Taylor might be better overall than Matt Cassel, but he’s going to scramble on a number of plays, meaning Clay’s target total could drop.

Charles Clay is coming off a down year because he battled through a knee injury. He’s now in Buffalo, where Matt Cassel will target him frequently because of his small arm. Clay could have a big year if he can manage to stay healthy.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 63 catches. 720 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 102.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 165.

  5. Jason Witten, TE, Cowboys. Bye: 6.
Jason Witten is still a fantastic blocker, but his fantasy production has dropped lately. His receptions and yardage have decreased over the past three seasons: 110-73-64 and 1,038-851-703, respectively. Witten, 33 in May, is no longer a sure-fire fantasy TE1.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 67 catches. 720 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 102.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 169.

  6. Jared Cook, TE, Rams. Bye: 6.
Jared Cook has never lived up to his physical talent. He hasn’t eclipsed 675 yards or five touchdowns in any season with the Rams. He hasn’t had much help at quarterback, but he still should’ve caught more than 52 passes in a year.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 55 catches. 710 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 101.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 156.

  7. Vernon Davis, TE, 49ers. Bye: 10.
AUG. 1 UPDATE: Vernon Davis told the media that he’s feeling “more explosive” than he did during his disappointing 2014 campaign. Davis is an obvious buy-low candidate, but given that he’s now 31, he could be dealing with a sharp decline.

Vernon Davis saw his yardage plummet from 850 to 245 yards, while his touchdowns dropped from 13 to two. Davis didn’t try hard at all, and it didn’t help that he was dealing with an injury. He just turned 31, so his best days are behind him, but he will be better than he was in 2014.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 56 catches. 700 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 100.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 156.

  8. Richard Rodgers, TE, Packers. Bye: 9.
AUG. 23 UPDATE: Richard Rodgers hauled three balls for 30 yards and a touchdown in the second preseason game. None of that was with Aaron Rodgers at the helm, but he’s still worth moving up in the rankings. With Jordy Nelson out for the year, Aaron Rodgers won’t have a choice but to utilize the tight end more, and Richard Rodgers happens to be the starter at that position.

AUG. 19 UPDATE: Richard Rodgers has officially passed Andrew Quarless on the depth chart, according to Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Rodgers is only worth a late-round flier though, as the Packers plan on going with three-receiver sets.

Richard Rodgers caught just two passes in his first six games, but became a bigger part of the offense toward the end of the season. He managed to reel in four receptions in the NFC Championship, for example. Rodgers will have more fantasy relevance if Randall Cobb leaves via free agency.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 55 catches. 670 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 97.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 152.

  9. Julius Thomas, TE, Jaguars. Bye: 8.
AUG. 31 UPDATE: Julius Thomas will be out 4-5 weeks with a broken hand. It sounds like he’ll be back in early or mid October. This is obviously not ideal, so look for other tight end options. Having said that, don’t hesitate to draft Thomas a high-upside player if he falls.

AUG. 15 UPDATE: The big news for the Jaguars in the preseason opener was Julius Thomas’ injury. Hit hard by William Gay (not that there’s anything wrong with that) on his first reception, Thomas left the game with what turned out to be a fractured finger. He’ll be out for the rest of the preseason, but figures to be back for the opener. Still, it’s a concern; if Thomas doesn’t heal in time, he obviously won’t be very productive.

Julius Thomas took much more money to sign with a much less successful franchise. That’s never a good omen. Thomas could produce in Greg Olson’s offense, but it’s more than likely that he’ll disappoint because he’s now fat and happy.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 54 catches. 630 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 97.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 151.

  10. Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Buccaneers. Bye: 6.
AUG. 12 UPDATE: Lovie Smith told the media that he has “big plans” for Austin Seferian-Jenkins this season, citing that his second-year tight end has great potential.

JULY 15 UPDATE: Austin Seferian-Jenkins had a disappointing rookie campaign that was derailed by injuries. He’s healthy now, and that’s been evident at OTAs. Per reports, Seferian-Jenkins has been incredibly difficult to cover. Seferian-Jenkins should be able to make a big leap in 2015.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins played in just nine games as a rookie, logging 21 receptions for 221 yards and two touchdowns. He’ll likely endure the struggles of a rookie quarterback, but Jameis Winston is obviously an upgrade over both Josh McCown and Mike Glennon.

Projected 2015 Fantasy Stats: 61 catches. 720 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2015 Fantasy Points: 96.
Projected 2015 PPR Fantasy Points: 157.
