2014 Fantasy Football Stock Report – Weeks of Aug. 25, Sept. 1

SEPT. 3

Ben Tate, RB, Browns
Mike Pettine praised Ben Tate as a three-down running back on Tuesday, saying Tate was the player he could trust the most in his backfield.

Wes Welker, WR, Broncos
Wes Welker has been suspended for four games for PEDs. Welker should have been avoided anyway because of his concussions. This, however, could cause him to really drop in remaining fantasy drafts, allowing you to obtain him for great value.

SEPT. 2

Marques Colston, WR, Saints
Marques Colston told the media that he feels healthier than he has in the past two years. Colston was on fire down the stretch last season, and he should be able to carry that over into 2014. He’s been undervalued all summer.

Doug Martin, RB, Buccaneers
Doug Martin will be more involved in the passing game this year because the coaches have reportedly changed their minds about him as a pass-catcher. Martin has been tabbed as a bounce-back candidate for several months now, though this news may make others catch up.

Lamar Miller, RB, Dolphins
Lamar Miller has fallen behind Knowshon Moreno for workload duties, according to the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero. This makes sense, as Moreno is the better talent and is actually healthy now.

Knowshon Moreno, RB, Dolphins
Knowshon Moreno has taken the lead for workload duties, according to the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero. It was obvious that Moreno would’ve been the favorite all along had he not been injured. His health was a big question mark, but it now appears as though he’s completely fine.

SEPT. 1

Shane Vereen, RB, Patriots
Shane Vereen is going to have a major role in almost every game plan, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston. With a shaky supporting cast around him, Vereen is bound to get plenty of touches.

Terrance West, RB, Browns
People may want to look at other rookie running backs. Terrance West, according to Tom Reed of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, has been slow to adjust to the offense. Sure, Ben Tate is injury-prone, but there’s no guarantee West would get the workload in the event of an injury.

AUG. 30

Stevan Ridley, RB, Patriots
There was some media speculation that Stevan Ridley wouldn’t make the final roster, but that was always silly. There’s no one else on the roster who can handle the workload in between the tackles. It would be great to see what Ridley could do if he stopped fumbling.

AUG. 29

BenJarvus Green-Ellis, RB, Bengals
The Bengals released BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

Jeremy Hill, RB, Bengals
Jeremy Hill had a great outing in the preseason finale. I guess that made the decision to cut BenJarvus Green-Ellis that much easier. Hill is one of the better handcuffs to own.

AUG. 27

Josh Gordon, WR, Browns
Note to NFL players: If you want to get into trouble, hit your girlfriends/wives/fiancees. It’s fine; you’ll only miss two games. But whatever you do, don’t smoke a drug that’s legal in two states. You’ll be banned for the year like Josh Gordon. In all seriousness, this is Roger Goodell’s worst moment in his failed tenure as the NFL commissioner.

Christine Michael, RB, Seahawks
Christine Michael injured his hamstring and won’t suit up for the preseason finale. This is just a tiny down arrow, as Michael won’t be fantasy-relevant until Marshawn Lynch gets hurt, and by the time that happens, Michael will be healthy again.

AUG. 26

Vincent Jackson, WR, Buccaneers
Tampa Bay trading for Logan Mankins will be a boost for Vincent Jackson. Josh McCown will have more time in the pocket, so he’ll have more time to connect with Jackson downfield.

Doug Martin, RB, Buccaneers
The Buccaneers traded for former Patriots’ guard Logan Mankins, one of the better run-blocking interior linemen in the NFL. This will be a huge boost for Doug Martin.

Tim Wright, TE, Patriots
No offense to Josh McCown, but Tim Wright is better off playing with Tom Brady, especially given that Wright really won’t have anyone to compete with in New England as long as the team is running a two-tight end set. Wright is nothing more than a TE2, but he still deserves an up arrow.

AUG. 25

Steven Jackson, RB, Falcons
Steven Jackson practiced Monday for the first time in about four weeks. He’s going to be ready for the regular season. Jackson won’t run very well, but he’ll have a shot at double-digit touchdowns in Atlanta’s offense.

Cam Newton, QB, Panthers
The rib injury Cam Newton sustained in the third preseason game is serious enough to put his Week 1 availability in question. Newton will probably be on the field, but he’ll likely run less than he already has.

Jordan Reed, TE, Redskins
Jordan Reed has been diagnosed with a sprained thumb. He’ll play Week 1, as this isn’t a major injury, but it’s just another reminder of how fragile Reed is. If you draft him, make sure you have a quality backup.
