2014 Fantasy Football Mock Draft

Aug. 11, 2014.

This is a real fantasy draft I was a part of this past Sunday. It was a PPR format with two starting running backs and receivers, as well as a RB/WR/TE flex slot.

Just a heads up that we have 2014 Fantasy Football Mock Drafts every Wednesday evening. Check out the fantasy mock draft thread for details.

Round: 1
(1) The Body Burners – Adrian Peterson RB
(2) Team Potter – Calvin Johnson WR
(3) Epic Debacalation
– Jamaal Charles RB
(4) Rich Kotite’s Jets – LeSean McCoy RB
(5) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Matt Forte RB
(6) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – Marshawn Lynch RB
(7) Doctor Who Dat – Jimmy Graham TE
(8) Affirmative Action Squad – Doug Martin RB
(9) Team Monk – Eddie Lacy RB
(10) Fantasy Furyans – Dez Bryant WR
(11) Little Jimmy SanchOs – DeMarco Murray RB
(12) Dolphins Homer – Peyton Manning QB

Round: 2
(13) Dolphins Homer – Arian Foster RB
(14) Little Jimmy SanchOs – Giovani Bernard RB
(15) Fantasy Furyans – Montee Ball RB
(16) Team Monk – Demaryius Thomas WR
(17) Affirmative Action Squad – A.J. Green WR
(18) Doctor Who Dat – Le’Veon Bell RB
(19) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – Aaron Rodgers QB
(20) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Zac Stacy RB
(21) Rich Kotite’s Jets – Alfred Morris RB
(22) Epic Debacalation
– Brandon Marshall WR
(23) Team Potter – Julio Jones WR
(24) The Body Burners – Drew Brees QB

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 1-2: I can’t believe I landed Jamaal Charles with the third pick of a PPR format. Charles should be going No. 1 in this type of system. Getting Brandon Marshall on the way back was also unreal.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 1-2: I like Eddie Lacy at 1.09, but the best two selections were A.J. Green at 2.05 and Julio Jones at 2.11. Those were some great value picks, especially the former.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 1-2: Calvin Johnson stands out as the second pick, but I can’t blame Team Potter for passing on unreliable running backs to take the best receiver in the NFL. I don’t think this is a bad selection at all; I just thought it was worth mentioning.

The worst pick is DeMarco Murray. It’s highly unlikely he’ll last all 16 games, so why reach for him at the end of the first round?

Round: 3
(25) The Body Burners – Jordy Nelson WR
(26) Team Potter – Ray Rice RB
(27) Epic Debacalation
– Antonio Brown WR
(28) Rich Kotite’s Jets – Vincent Jackson WR
(29) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Alshon Jeffery WR
(30) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – Julius Thomas TE
(31) Doctor Who Dat – Randall Cobb WR
(32) Affirmative Action Squad – Keenan Allen WR
(33) Team Monk – Pierre Garcon WR
(34) Fantasy Furyans – Rob Gronkowski TE
(35) Little Jimmy SanchOs – Larry Fitzgerald WR
(36) Dolphins Homer – Reggie Bush RB

Round: 4
(37) Dolphins Homer – Andre Johnson WR
(38) Little Jimmy SanchOs – Ryan Mathews RB
(39) Fantasy Furyans – Andre Ellington RB
(40) Team Monk – Shane Vereen RB
(41) Affirmative Action Squad – Ben Tate RB
(42) Doctor Who Dat – C.J. Spiller RB
(43) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – DeSean Jackson WR
(44) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Matthew Stafford QB
(45) Rich Kotite’s Jets – Roddy White WR
(46) Epic Debacalation
– Rashad Jennings RB
(47) Team Potter – Frank Gore RB
(48) The Body Burners – Victor Cruz WR

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 3-4: I’ve written this several times over the summer, but the top of the third round is where all of the value is this year. There will be a run on receivers there, and you’ll want one because that position has a huge drop-off point at around 3.06. I was thrilled to get Antonio Brown in this frame because he’s a beast in PPR formats.

Rashad Jennings is a decent pick in Round 4. He’ll get most of the touches – particularly the receptions – with David Wilson gone. New York’s offensive line is garbage, so Eli Manning will be dumping the ball off to him quite frequently.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 3-4: Anyone who took the receivers atop Round 3. Fantasy Furyans, meanwhile, obtained immense value with Andre Ellington in the fourth round.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 3-4: I can’t get behind Ray Rice at 3.02, considering that he’ll be out for the first two games. The DeSean Jackson selection is worse, for obvious reasons.

Round: 5
(49) The Body Burners – Wes Welker WR
(50) Team Potter – Michael Floyd WR
(51) Epic Debacalation
– Lamar Miller RB
(52) Rich Kotite’s Jets – Bishop Sankey RB
(53) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Percy Harvin WR
(54) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – Vernon Davis TE
(55) Doctor Who Dat – Cordarrelle Patterson WR
(56) Affirmative Action Squad – Cam Newton QB
(57) Team Monk – Michael Crabtree WR
(58) Fantasy Furyans – T.Y. Hilton WR
(59) Little Jimmy SanchOs – Andrew Luck QB
(60) Dolphins Homer – Trent Richardson RB

Round: 6
(61) Dolphins Homer – Torrey Smith WR
(62) Little Jimmy SanchOs – Julian Edelman WR
(63) Fantasy Furyans – Joique Bell RB
(64) Team Monk – Danny Woodhead RB
(65) Affirmative Action Squad – Toby Gerhart RB
(66) Doctor Who Dat – Kendall Wright WR
(67) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – Chris Johnson RB
(68) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Steven Jackson RB
(69) Rich Kotite’s Jets – Colin Kaepernick QB
(70) Epic Debacalation
– Jordan Reed TE
(71) Team Potter – Russell Wilson QB
(72) The Body Burners – Stevan Ridley RB

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 5-6: Lamar Miller looked great in the preseason opener – go here to read my preseason recaps – and he’ll be heavily involved in the passing game. Jordan Reed also seems poised for a huge season.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 5-6: Some players I was hoping would drop to 6.10 include T.Y. Hilton, Andrew Luck and Cordarrelle Patterson. All looked outstanding in their exhibition debuts.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 5-6: Only one poor pick sticks out, and that would be Chris Johnson. The former Titan is terrible, and he’ll be phased out of the offense as the season progresses.

Round: 7
(73) The Body Burners – Jason Witten TE
(74) Team Potter – Jordan Cameron TE
(75) Epic Debacalation
– Marques Colston WR
(76) Rich Kotite’s Jets – Greg Olsen TE
(77) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Robert Griffin III QB
(78) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – Jeremy Maclin WR
(79) Doctor Who Dat – Darren Sproles RB
(80) Affirmative Action Squad – Sammy Watkins WR
(81) Team Monk – Reggie Wayne WR
(82) Fantasy Furyans – Golden Tate WR
(83) Little Jimmy SanchOs – Kyle Rudolph TE
(84) Dolphins Homer – Nick Foles QB

Round: 8
(85) Dolphins Homer – Emmanuel Sanders WR
(86) Little Jimmy SanchOs – Terrance Williams WR
(87) Fantasy Furyans – Dennis Pitta TE
(88) Team Monk – Pierre Thomas RB
(89) Affirmative Action Squad – Martellus Bennett TE
(90) Doctor Who Dat – Tom Brady QB
(91) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – Seahawks D/ST D/ST
(92) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Mike Wallace WR
(93) Rich Kotite’s Jets – Tony Romo QB
(94) Epic Debacalation
– Matt Ryan QB
(95) Team Potter – Cecil Shorts WR
(96) The Body Burners – Maurice Jones-Drew RB

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 7-8: I like that I don’t have to rely on Marques Colston. The Saints’ top receiver finished on a strong note last year, but has an extensive injury history. He’s an iffy WR2, but a great WR3. As for my quarterback, I was hoping for Tom Brady, but Doctor Who Dat snatched him away. Matt Ryan isn’t much worse though, as he’ll have a rebound season if everyone stays healthy.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 7-8: I mentioned Brady already. Reggie Wayne, Kyle Rudolph and Maurice Jones-Drew also provided great value for their owners. Jones-Drew looked like the MJD of old this past weekend, by the way.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 7-8: Taking Seattle’s defense, or any defense this early, is a disaster. Cecil Shorts is also a bad pick because he’s hurt.

Round: 9
(97) The Body Burners – Eric Decker WR
(98) Team Potter – Chris Ivory RB
(99) Epic Debacalation
– Darren McFadden RB
(100) Rich Kotite’s Jets – Mark Ingram RB
(101) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Fred Jackson RB
(102) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – Anquan Boldin WR
(103) Doctor Who Dat – Knowshon Moreno RB
(104) Affirmative Action Squad – Steve Smith WR
(105) Team Monk – DeAngelo Williams RB
(106) Fantasy Furyans – Khiry Robinson RB
(107) Little Jimmy SanchOs – Rueben Randle WR
(108) Dolphins Homer – DeAndre Hopkins WR

Round: 10
(109) Dolphins Homer – Bernard Pierce RB
(110) Little Jimmy SanchOs – Carlos Hyde RB
(111) Fantasy Furyans – Philip Rivers QB
(112) Team Monk – Riley Cooper WR
(113) Affirmative Action Squad – Brandin Cooks WR
(114) Doctor Who Dat – Markus Wheaton WR
(115) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – Danny Amendola WR
(116) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Dwayne Bowe WR
(117) Rich Kotite’s Jets – Kenny Stills WR
(118) Epic Debacalation
– Christine Michael RB
(119) Team Potter – Greg Jennings WR
(120) The Body Burners – Hakeem Nicks WR

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 9-10: Darren McFadden is currently behind Maurice Jones-Drew on the depth chart, but he’ll catch plenty of passes, as Oakland wants to utilize both of its running backs. Meanwhile, there’s tons of upside with Christine Michael. If Marshawn Lynch gets hurt, Michael will post RB1 numbers.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 9-10: There were several groans when Carlos Hyde was taken off the board. With Frank Gore in major decline, Hyde could have a huge season. I was also upset when Dwayne Bowe was chosen. He’s in great shape this year.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 9-10: Eric Decker provides very little upside. Meanwhile, there’s absolutely none with Knowshon Moreno because he’s hurt and may not even make the team.

Round: 11
(121) The Body Burners – Tre Mason RB
(122) Team Potter – Zach Ertz TE
(123) Epic Debacalation
– Ben Roethlisberger QB
(124) Rich Kotite’s Jets – Charles Clay TE
(125) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Shonn Greene RB
(126) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – Donald Brown RB
(127) Doctor Who Dat – James Jones WR
(128) Affirmative Action Squad – Terrance West RB
(129) Team Monk – Jay Cutler QB
(130) Fantasy Furyans – Mike Evans WR
(131) Little Jimmy SanchOs – Heath Miller TE
(132) Dolphins Homer – Jeremy Hill RB

Round: 12
(133) Dolphins Homer – LeGarrette Blount RB
(134) Little Jimmy SanchOs – Jonathan Stewart RB
(135) Fantasy Furyans – Kelvin Benjamin WR
(136) Team Monk – Delanie Walker TE
(137) Affirmative Action Squad – Justin Hunter WR
(138) Doctor Who Dat – Marvin Jones WR
(139) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – James Starks RB
(140) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Panthers D/ST D/ST
(141) Rich Kotite’s Jets – 49ers D/ST D/ST
(142) Epic Debacalation
– Kenny Britt WR
(143) Team Potter – Andrew Hawkins WR
(144) The Body Burners – Broncos D/ST D/ST

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 11-12: Ben Roethlisberger is a solid QB2. Kenny Britt, meanwhile, has reportedly been a revelation in Rams’ camp. He’s healthy and has emerged as a team leader.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 11-12: I didn’t need a tight end, so I didn’t consider Zach Ertz or Charles Clay, but they’re very good choices in Round 11. I’m a fan of Terrance West, Justin Hunter and Marvin Jones as well. I would’ve selected any of them had they dropped to 12.10.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 11-12: James Jones is terrible, and he shouldn’t be drafted. Jonathan Stewart is never healthy, so he should be avoided as well.

Round: 13
(145) The Body Burners – Andre Brown RB
(146) Team Potter – Teddy Bridgewater QB
(147) Epic Debacalation
– Josh Gordon WR
(148) Rich Kotite’s Jets – Lance Dunbar RB
(149) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Latavius Murray RB
(150) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – Knile Davis RB
(151) Doctor Who Dat – Jarrett Boykin WR
(152) Affirmative Action Squad – Eric Ebron TE
(153) Team Monk – Andre Holmes WR
(154) Fantasy Furyans – Stephen Gostkowski K
(155) Little Jimmy SanchOs – Ahmad Bradshaw RB
(156) Dolphins Homer – Cardinals D/ST D/ST

Round: 14
(157) Dolphins Homer – C.J. Anderson RB
(158) Little Jimmy SanchOs – Tavon Austin WR
(159) Fantasy Furyans – Theo Riddick RB
(160) Team Monk – Josh McCown QB
(161) Affirmative Action Squad – Justin Tucker K
(162) Doctor Who Dat – Doug Baldwin WR
(163) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – Roy Helu RB
(164) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Matt Prater K
(165) Rich Kotite’s Jets – Brandon LaFell WR
(166) Epic Debacalation
– Andre Williams RB
(167) Team Potter – Phil Dawson K
(168) The Body Burners – Andy Dalton QB

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 13-14: Why not? Even if Josh Gordon is suspended for half the season, he’ll provide a huge boost for me come playoff time. If he doesn’t play, I just wasted a 13th-round pick. Oh well.

As for Andre Williams, he’s a handcuff for Rashad Jennings. I’m only for taking handcuffs when: A) The starter is very injury-prone, and/or B) The handcuff is talented himself. The latter is true for Williams, who has run well in his two preseason contests.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 13-14: Looking for upside here, Lance Dunbar, Jarrett Boykin, Andre Holmes, Ahmad Bradshaw, C.J. Anderson and Tavon Austin provide plenty. All are solid choices.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 13-14: Players with no upside in these rounds include Teddy Bridgewater (rookie quarterbacks in fantasy are often useless), Eric Ebron (same for rookie tight ends), Theo Riddick, Dough Baldwin and Brandon LaFell.

Round: 15
(169) The Body Burners – Mason Crosby K
(170) Team Potter – Devonta Freeman RB
(171) Epic Debacalation
– Rams D/ST D/ST
(172) Rich Kotite’s Jets – Dan Bailey K
(173) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Eli Manning QB
(174) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – Steven Hauschka K
(175) Doctor Who Dat – Blair Walsh K
(176) Affirmative Action Squad – Ravens D/ST D/ST
(177) Team Monk – Patriots D/ST D/ST
(178) Fantasy Furyans – Bengals D/ST D/ST
(179) Little Jimmy SanchOs – Chiefs D/ST D/ST
(180) Dolphins Homer – Nick Novak K

Round: 16
(181) Dolphins Homer – Antonio Gates TE
(182) Little Jimmy SanchOs – Adam Vinatieri K
(183) Fantasy Furyans – Ladarius Green TE
(184) Team Monk – Shayne Graham K
(185) Affirmative Action Squad – Jordan Todman RB
(186) Doctor Who Dat – Buccaneers D/ST D/ST
(187) BobLoblaw’s LawBlog – Steve Johnson WR
(188) Dr. John Zoidberg PhD – Coby Fleener TE
(189) Rich Kotite’s Jets – Naufahu Tahi RB
(190) Epic Debacalation
– Robbie Gould K
(191) Team Potter – Browns D/ST D/ST
(192) The Body Burners – Bills D/ST D/ST

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 15-16: The Rams have the Vikings at home in Week 1, which is a plus matchup. Kicker, who cares.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 15-16: Naufahu Tahi made me laugh – he was one of the two featured players in Brad Childress’ infamous two-fullback offense – so I’m giving Rich Kotite’s Jets the best pick. Ladarius Green gets an honorable mention.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 15-16: The Bills battle the Bears in Week 1, so what is the Body Burners doing? Play matchups with your defenses until you randomly get your hands on a great one.

My Fantasy Team:

QB – Matt Ryan, Falcons
RB – Jamaal Charles, Chiefs
RB – Rashad Jennings, Giants
WR – Brandon Marshall, Bears
WR – Antonio Brown, Steelers
RB/WR – Lamar Miller, Dolphins
TE – Jordan Reed, Redskins
K – Robbie Gould, Bears
DEF – Rams Defense

BN – Marques Colston, WR, Saints
BN – Darren McFadden, RB, Raiders
BN – Christine Michael, RB, Seahawks
BN – Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Steelers
BN – Kenny Britt, WR, Rams
BN – Josh Gordon, WR, Browns
BN – Andre Williams, RB, Giants

I love this team. It’s pretty killer in a PPR format. Jamaal Charles, Brandon Marshall and Antonio Brown will rack up tons of points each week. Several other of my starters have tons of upside. My bench is stacked. There are no real weaknesses anywhere, save for tight end if Jordan Reed gets hurt again.
