2013 Fantasy Football Stock Report – Week of Aug. 19

AUG. 25

Eddie Lacy, RB, Packers
Mike McCarthy named DuJuan Harris the starter over Eddie Lacy recently. It was obvious this wasn’t going to stick for long. Well, it’s over now. Harris is going to be out for several weeks with a knee injury. McCarthy has no choice but to start Lacy.

Knowshon Moreno, RB, Broncos
The Denver Post suggested today that Knowshon Moreno will move up the depth chart soon. Rotoworld, meanwhile suggested that Moreno is worth a late-round flier. Moreno has been on the fantasy football sleepers list on this Web site since May, so I’d obviously still recommend taking him in Rounds 11-13.

Jordy Nelson, WR, Packers
Jordy Nelson returned to practice Sunday. It was initially reported that Nelson could be out for the first couple of weeks, but it appears as though he’ll be ready for the season opener. Nelson is still a big injury risk, but you can feel better about drafting him now.

AUG. 24

LaMichael James, RB, 49ers
LaMichael James’ role in the offense is expected to be minimal, according to CSN Bay Area. James is sitting behind Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter on the depth chart, and he hasn’t been very involved in the aerial attack.

AUG. 23

Austin Collie, WR, 49ers
Austin Collie is not projected to make the 49ers’ roster, according to CSN Bay Area. Collie hasn’t done much in the preseason games, but the starting offense hasn’t been on the field very much. Collie needs a strong Week 3 outing.

AUG. 22

Malcom Floyd, WR, Chargers
Malcom Floyd has a decent chance to play in Week 1, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. He’s been out since the beginning of August with a sprained knee, but he’s making good progress. Still, it’s difficult to get excited about such a mediocre talent.

Doug Martin, RB, Buccaneers
The Buccaneers have endured some internal issues this offseason. The latest problem is a staph infection that’s been going around. Stud guard Carl Nicks has one and will be sidelined for a month as a consequence. Not having Nicks up front for the first couple of weeks will slightly damage Martin’s potential.

AUG. 21

Le’Veon Bell, RB, Steelers
Yet more injury news for Le’Veon Bell, who now has a Lisfranc injury. There’s no official timetable for his recovery, but it’s looking like the best-case scenario would have him return after Pittsburgh’s Week 5 bye. And even then, the coaching staff may not trust Bell at all. Stay away from him in your fantasy drafts.

Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Steelers
Le’Veon Bell is out until Week 6 at the earliest, so Jonathan Dwyer gets an obvious stock up. Dwyer is the top healthy running back on Pittsbrugh’s roster, so he should be the favorite to lead the team in carries. Having said that, this is still a sketchy situation considering Isaac Redman’s presence and the state of the Steelers’ horrific offensive line.

Arian Foster, RB, Texans
Arian Foster gets a rare stock up, as he has been removed from the active/PUP list. Before you get too excited, however, Foster is dealing with numerous injuries and is a very poor bet to last all 16 games. I’d avoid him entirely in the first round. Let someone else deal with this headache.

AUG. 20

Lamar Miller, RB, Dolphins
Daniel Thomas had more first-team reps than Lamar Miller in Monday’s practice. Offensive coordinator Mike Sherman called the competition “neck and neck.” Miller has done nothing to separate himself from Thomas.

Golden Tate, WR, Seahawks
I meant to move up Golden Tate in my rankings, but with so much going on Saturday night, it simply slipped my mind until VBSiena reminded me. Tate has looked much improved in the preseason and could have some WR3 potential.

Daniel Thomas, RB, Dolphins
Daniel Thomas had more first-team reps than Lamar Miller in Monday’s practice. Offensive coordinator Mike Sherman called the competition “neck and neck.” Thomas has actually looked better than Miller through three preseason contests. He’s worth drafting late, but don’t expect too much.

QB Eagles No. 7, QB, Eagles
QBDK has been named the Eagles’ starting quarterback. This earns him an up arrow, but keep two things in mind: One, when defenses actually start blitzing him, he’ll turn the ball over, especially in the red zone. Two, he’ll be injured by Halloween. QBDK is an unreliable QB2 with upside.

AUG. 19

Lance Dunbar, RB, Cowboys
Lance Dunbar will be out at least three weeks with a sprained left foot. This is a major bummer, as Dunbar was one of my favorite fantasy sleepers because of DeMarco Murray’s durability issues.

Knowshon Moreno, RB, Broncos
Knowshon Moreno returned to practice Monday. This is notable because the two players ahead of him on the depth chart struggled in the second preseason game. I’d draft “Slowshon” in Rounds 12-14 just in case. If healthy, he’s the most reliable running back on the roster, and it’s not even close.

Daryl Richardson, RB, Rams
Daryl Richardson has been named the starting running back on the Rams. The competition wasn’t really all that close, so Richardson should be able to maintain the job all year, barring injury. He’s a solid, lower-end RB2.
