2013 Fantasy Football Stock Report – Week of Aug. 5

AUG. 11

Jamaal Charles, RB, Chiefs
I saw this happen, but I was in such a daze from watching 15 football games in three days that I missed its importance. Jamaal Charles was given the only goal-line carry (with the starters) in the Chiefs’ preseason opener. Forum member Centurion pointed this out to me. This is very crucial; if Charles continues to serve as the end-zone guy – and he converted the attempt – he could be top fantasy running back this year.

Geno Smith, QB, Jets
It appears as though the media has overreacted to Geno Smith’s injury. Smith practiced Saturday and could start next weekend.

AUG. 10

Andrew Hawkins, WR, Bengals
Marvin Lewis said Andrew Hawkins could be placed on the injured-reserve call-back list, which would mean he couldn’t play until Week 8. Hawkins is dealing with an ankle injury.

AUG. 9

Bernard Pierce, RB, Ravens
Aaron Wilson is reporting that the knee injury Bernard Pierce suffered in the preseason opener is “not regarded as serious.” This is great news. Pierce looked terrific prior to going down at Tampa. Full preseason recaps here.

AUG. 8

Danny Amendola, WR, Patriots
Tom Brady has spent the past few days completely torching Philadelphia’s anemic secondary in joint practices. His favorite target, by far, has been Danny Amendola, who has WR1 potential if he can stay healthy. His durability is the only issue.

Denarius Moore, WR, Raiders
Denarius Moore has struggled in training camp, as he’s dropped tons of passes and failed to click with Matt Flynn. Considering Moore is a deep threat and Flynn has a noodle arm, this shouldn’t be much of a surprise.

Zach Sudfeld, TE, Patriots
Outside of Danny Amendola, Tom Brady has shown that he has the strongest connection with Zach Sudfeld, a rookie tight end. Sudfeld has been dubbed as “Baby Gronk,” so he’s an intriguing late-round flier. Temper your expectations though because he’s only a rookie.

AUG. 7

Johnathan Franklin, RB, Packers
Eddie Lacy has distanced himself from Johnathan Franklin and has emerged as the overwhelming favorite to start at running back. Franklin is still a decent, late-round option because of Lacy’s injury history, but he still gets a stock down.

Eddie Lacy, RB, Packers
If you saw my updated Fantasy Football Sleepers list, you may have noticed that Johnathan Franklin dropped out. That’s because Eddie Lacy has distanced himself from Franklin and has emerged as the overwhelming favorite to start at running back.

Joe Morgan, WR, Saints
Joe Morgan, who was expected to start across from Marques Colston, is out for the year with a torn meniscus.

Daryl Richardson, RB, Rams
Jeff Fisher told the media that Daryl Richardson is expected to be the team’s starting running back. Zac Stacy should win the No. 2 job and could take over at some point during the season. The preseason games should tell us a lot.

AUG. 6

Danario Alexander, WR, Chargers
Danario Alexander is out for the year with a torn ACL to the same knee that has given him lots of trouble over the years. What a shame.

Vincent Brown, WR, Chargers
Vincent Brown is back at practice, but that’s not the reason for his up arrow. Danario Alexander is out for the year with a torn ACL, so Brown is the favorite to start across from Malcom Floyd. He could easily lead the Chargers in receiving yardage.

Randall Cobb, WR, Packers
Randall Cobb gets an obvious stock up with Jordy Nelson out 4-6 with a knee issue, as he’ll see more targets during the early stages of the season.

Chris Ivory, RB, Jets
Chris Ivory has missed an entire week of practice with a hamstring injury, prompting Rex Ryan to tell the media that he’s pretty frustrated. Injuries like this tend to linger, and Ivory is known as an injury-prone player.

James Jones, WR, Packers
James Jones gets an obvious stock up with Jordy Nelson out 4-6 with a knee issue, as he’ll see more targets during the early stages of the season.

Jordy Nelson, WR, Packers
Jordy Nelson will be out 4-6 weeks because of knee surgery. Medical reports suggest that Nelson will actually be back for the season opener, but he may not be 100 percent. Nelson is very injury-prone, and this could mean more issues down the road this season.

AUG. 5

Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Colts
Darrius Heyward-Bey sprained his MCL and will be out for a few weeks. He shouldn’t have been on your fantasy radar anyway, but just cross him off your potential late-round sleepers list if you had him there.

Santonio Holmes, WR, Jets
Santonio Holmes is expected to miss the first four games of the season. This is hardly a surprise. Holmes is a bum, so don’t draft him, even if he’s available in the 16th round.

Aaron Rodgers, QB, Packers
The Packers lost left tackle Bryan Bulaga for the season. This means that Marshall Newhouse will take over at the position, while fourth-round rookie David Bakhtiari will be thrust into the starting lineup. Rodgers is still the No. 1 fantasy quarterback, but this downgraded blocking will hurt him a bit.

Shane Vereen, RB, Patriots
Peter King is the latest NFL analyst to suggest that Shane Vereen will be heavily involved in New England’s offense. Vereen has been lining up at multiple positions, and Bill Belichick is going to do everything possible to get Vereen in mismatches. Make sure you get this guy on to your team.
