2010 Fantasy Football Rankings: Top 31-40

There will be many more 2010 Fantasy Football Rankings and features in the late spring and summer, including tons of 2010 Fantasy Football Mock Drafts, Player Rankings, Sleepers and Busts. I’ll also have an extensive 2010 NFL Fantasy Football Preseason Stock Report.

2010 Fantasy Football Rankings – Top 31-40 (May 21):

  1. DeSean Jackson, WR, Eagles
Kevin Kolb doesn’t have the big arm or deep accuracy that Donovan McNabb possessed, so don’t expect as many deep bombs. However, I don’t think DeSean Jackson’s numbers will decrease too much; Kolb’s short and intermediate accuracy, as well as his quick decision-making makes him a better fit for Andy Reid’s West Coast offense.

In Kolb’s two starts last year, Jackson totaled 10 catches, 250 yards and two touchdowns. Granted, one was a blowout and the other was against the pathetic Chiefs, so those numbers are a bit bloated. Still, Jackson should be good for about 1,050-1,100 yards and 6-7 touchdowns.

  2. Joseph Addai, RB, Colts
Joseph Addai is once again projected to be the main runner in Indianapolis. Last year, Addai rushed for 828 yards, and caught 51 balls for 336 more yards. More importantly, he scored 13 touchdowns in the process – a figure that should remain steady based on how highly productive the Colts’ offense is.

  3. Knowshon Moreno, RB, Broncos
Knowshon Moreno’s knee injury limited him early in the season. A rookie wall, acknowledged by both he and his coaching staff, limited him late in the year. Josh McDaniels’ obsession with changing Denver’s blocking scheme limited Moreno throughout his entire rookie campaign.

Ryan Clady will miss the first few games of the season, but all isn’t lost because Denver drafted two interior linemen, Zane Beadles and J.D. Walton. With Moreno in better shape, he’ll have a better season. Unfortunately, his production won’t be maximized because opposing defenses won’t have any respect for Kyle Orton or Brady Quinn.

  4. LeSean McCoy, RB, Eagles
LeSean McCoy has been receiving glowing reports in mini-camps thus far. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg praised him for being confident, teaching the younger players and looking “180-degrees different” compared to his rookie campaign.

With Brian Westbrook gone, McCoy will be the featured back. He’ll likely receive 250-plus touches this season, which should translate into about 1,400 total yards and eight touchdowns.

  5. Sidney Rice, WR, Vikings
Sidney Rice didn’t do much the first two weeks of the season, but was still able to finish with 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns. His value obviously hinges on Brett Favre’s return and subsequent health, but I’ll be shocked if the grizzled No. 4 doesn’t come back.

  6. Steve Smith, WR, Panthers
Jake Delhomme did a great job ruining Steve Smith’s 2009 campaign. Smith, who had 1,421 yards and six touchdowns the year before, saw his stats drop to 982 yards and seven scores.

There is some good news though. Delhomme is gone, and will be replaced by either Matt Moore or Jimmy Clausen. In four full games with Moore last year, Smith caught 19 balls for 378 yards and three touchdowns. Extend those figures over 16 games, and you get 76 receptions, 1,512 yards and 12 scores. Not bad.

If Clausen wins the job, that’s fine too. Roddy White did pretty well during Matt Ryan’s rookie year in 2008 (88, 1,382, 7 TDs).

  7. Philip Rivers, QB, Chargers
Philip Rivers finished the 2009 season with 4,254 yards, 28 touchdowns and nine interceptions. More importantly was how he played down the stretch – he eclipsed 260 yards in every game between Weeks 12-16. The only concern with Rivers is that Vincent Jackson won’t be available for approximately 2-4 games (suspension), but I don’t think that’s a huge deal.

  8. Anquan Boldin, WR, Ravens
If a 35-year-old Derrick Mason can catch 73 passes for 1,028 yards and seven touchdowns in Baltimore’s offense, I think Anquan Boldin can at least match those numbers (assuming he stays healthy, of course). The Ravens didn’t sign and draft all of these receivers for Joe Flacco just so they could run the ball some more; they’re going to be airing it out quite a bit, and Boldin will be Flacco’s primary end-zone target.

  9. Tom Brady, QB, Patriots
Tom Brady may not have Wes Welker until Thanksgiving. How will that affect his stats? Well, in the three games without Welker last season, Brady averaged 216 passing yards, 1.3 touchdowns and 1.3 interceptions. Extrapolate that over 16 games, and Brady would have 3,456 yards, 21 touchdowns and 21 interceptions on the year. Ouch.

It must be noted, however, that Brady was coming off knee surgery and suffered a broken finger late in the year, which affected his numbers. Brady’s health will be a boost to his fantasy stats, as will the addition of Rob Gronkowski.

I’m slightly concerned about his once-pristine work ethic though; ever since he married that super model, Brady has not appeared to be 100-percent committed to football (as evidenced by his skipping minicamps to be with his family when he had an entire offseason to do so).

  10. Jahvid Best, RB, Lions
With Kevin Smith coming off a torn ACL, Jahvid Best is Detroit’s featured back. That means he could be in line for 250-300 touches, perhaps even more. So, why is he so low in these 2010 Fantasy Football Rankings? Because he’s so brittle and injury-prone. If he plays, he’ll really produce for you. But don’t count on Best being in the lineup for 16 games.
