2010 Fantasy Football: Start Em, Sit Em

2010 Fantasy Football: Start Em, Sit Em: Week 17

Rather than quickly listing start em and sit em players on my Week 17 NFL Picks page, I thought I’d devote a new page for this.

Panthers at Falcons

Start Em:
  • Jonathan Stewart, RB, Panthers
Atlanta’s not very good against the run.

  • Obvious Starts:
    CAR: None.
ATL: QB Matt Ryan, RB Michael Turner, WR Roddy White, TE Tony Gonzalez, Falcons Defense.

    Sit Em:
  • Steve Smith, WR, Panthers
    Steve Smith is done.

    MISSING

    Steelers at Browns

    Start Em:
  • Obvious Starts:
PIT: QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Rashard Mendenhall, WR Mike Wallace, WR Hines Ward, Steelers Defense.
    CLE: RB Peyton Hillis.

    Sit Em:
  • Heath Miller, TE, Steelers
Heath Miller just had a huge game, but that’s because the Panthers’ linebacking corps is a mess. I wouldn’t rely on him.

Weekly NFL Fantasy Football Rankings – To be posted Wednesday

    Vikings at Lions

    Start Em:
  • Percy Harvin, WR, Vikings
Percy Harvin is playable against a poor Detroit secondary.

  • Obvious Starts:
    MIN: RB Adrian Peterson.
    DET: WR Calvin Johnson.

    Sit Em:
  • Sidney Rice, WR, Vikings
    Likely out with a concussion.

  • Jahvid Best, RB, Lions
Despite the long touchdown against the Dolphins, you can’t rely on Jahvid Best.

Weekly NFL Fantasy Football Rankings – To be posted Wednesday

    Raiders at Chiefs

    Start Em:
  • Obvious Starts:
OAK: RB Darren McFadden, TE Zach Miller.
    KC: None.

    Sit Em:
  • Matt Cassel, Jamaal Charles and Dwayne Bowe, QB/RB/WR, Chiefs
There’s no telling how long these guys are going to play. This is why you shouldn’t have a Week 17 fantasy Super Bowl.

Weekly NFL Fantasy Football Rankings – To be posted Wednesday

    Dolphins at Patriots

    Start Em:
  • Tom Brady, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Wes Welker, Rob Gronkowski, QB/RB/WR/TE, Patriots
Bill Belichick has played his starters in the past.

  • Obvious Starts:
MIA: WR Brandon Marshall, WR Davone Bess (PPR Only).
    NE: Patriots Defense.

    Sit Em:
  • Deion Branch, WR, Patriots
If there’s one Patriot who will sit out, it’ll be Deion Branch, who has a sore knee.

Weekly NFL Fantasy Football Rankings – To be posted Wednesday

    Bengals at Ravens

    Start Em:
  • Carson Palmer, QB, Bengals
    Carson Palmer is alive!

  • Bengals Defense
The Bengals have been putting more pressure on the quarterback lately. They also have Joe Flacco’s number.

  • Derrick Mason, WR, Ravens
A better receiving option than Anquan Boldin this year.

  • Obvious Starts:
    CIN: None.
BAL: RB Ray Rice, Ravens Defense.

    Sit Em:
  • Cedric Benson, RB, Bengals
The Ravens are very good against the run.

  • Joe Flacco, QB, Ravens
    Always struggles against the Bengals.

  • Anquan Boldin, WR, Ravens
    A huge disappointment this year.

Weekly NFL Fantasy Football Rankings – To be posted Wednesday

    Buccaneers at Saints

    Start Em:
  • Lance Moore, WR, Saints
Definitely a solid WR3 in Week 17, Lance Moore has emerged as Drew Brees’ favorite go-to option on third down.

  • Obvious Starts:
TB: RB LeGarrette Blount, WR Mike Williams, TE Kellen Winslow Jr.
NO: QB Drew Brees, WR Marques Colston.

    Sit Em:
  • Saints Running Backs
With Chris Ivory due back, three runners could be splitting touches.

    MISSING

    Bills at Jets

    Start Em:
  • Fred Jackson, RB, Bills
The Jets have allowed at least 92 rushing yards to each of their previous four opponents.

  • Obvious Starts:
    BUF: WR Stevie Johnson.
    NYJ: None.

    Sit Em:
  • Shonn Greene, LaDainian Tomlinson, Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards, Dustin Keller, RBs/WRs/TEs, Jets
If Rex Ryan rests his starters, you’re screwed if you go with any of these guys.

    MISSING

    Cardinals at 49ers

    Start Em:
  • Cardinals Defense
The 49ers will be out of whack amid a coaching change.

  • Obvious Starts:
    ARZ: WR Larry Fitzgerald.
    SF: TE Vernon Davis.

    Sit Em:
  • Cardinals Running Backs
The 49ers happen to be second against the run (YPC).

  • Michael Crabtree, WR, 49ers
I refuse to trust Michael Crabtree.

Weekly NFL Fantasy Football Rankings – To be posted Wednesday

    Chargers at Broncos

    Start Em:
  • Tim Tebow, QB, Broncos
Carson Palmer just lit up the Chargers. I think you have to consider Tim Tebow as a starter this week.

  • Obvious Starts:
SD: QB Philip Rivers, WR Vincent Jackson.
    DEN: WR Brandon Lloyd.

    Sit Em:
  • Antonio Gates, TE, Chargers
Why would the Chargers risk further injury and play Antonio Gates this week?

  • Knowshon Moreno, RB, Broncos
Will be either injured or limited.

Weekly NFL Fantasy Football Rankings – To be posted Wednesday

    Jaguars at Texans

    Start Em:
  • David Garrard, QB, Jaguars
The Texans are dead last against the pass.

  • Mike Thomas, WR, Jagars
Mike Thomas is a solid WR3 in a week that some teams will rest their starters.

  • Obvious Starts:
JAX: RB Maurice Jones-Drew, TE Marcedes Lewis.
HOU: QB Matt Schaub, RB Arian Foster, WR Andre Johnson (if he plays), TE Owen Daniels.

    Sit Em:
  • Mike Sims-Walker
Mike Sims-Walker is banged up. Don’t use him.

Weekly NFL Fantasy Football Rankings – To be posted Wednesday

    Titans at Colts

    Start Em:
  • Obvious Starts:
TEN: RB Chris Johnson, WR Kenny Britt.
IND: QB Peyton Manning, WR Reggie Wayne, WR Pierre Garcon, TE Jacob Tamme.

    Sit Em:
  • Colts Running Backs
Joseph Addai could score a touchdown or two. As could Dominic Rhodes. This is a timeshare, however, so either back could miss out on scoring all together. The Titans have a tough run defense otherwise, so don’t expect too many yards.

Weekly NFL Fantasy Football Rankings – To be posted Wednesday

    Giants at Redskins

    Start Em:
  • Redskins Defense
Washington’s defense isn’t any good, but you could start them because of how many turnovers the Giants commit.

  • Obvious Starts:
NYG: QB Eli Manning, RB Ahmad Bradshaw, WR Hakeem Nicks, WR Mario Manningham, Giants Defense.
    WAS: WR Santana Moss.

    Sit Em:
  • Kevin Boss, TE, Giants
I just want to point out how much Kevin Boss sucks.

Weekly NFL Fantasy Football Rankings – To be posted Wednesday

    Bears at Packers

    Start Em:
  • Obvious Starts:
CHI: QB Jay Cutler, RB Matt Forte, WR Johnny “Kevin” Knox, Bears Defense.
GB: QB Aaron Rodgers, WR Greg Jennings.

    Sit Em:
  • John Kuhn, RB, Packers
You can’t expect another three-touchdown game from John Kuhn. Sorry, Bo-Bo.

Weekly NFL Fantasy Football Rankings – To be posted Wednesday

    Cowboys at Eagles

    Start Em:
  • Kevin Kolb, QB, Eagles
Kevin Kolb will play an awful Dallas secondary, but won’t have any of his weapons. Still not a bad start.

  • Obvious Starts:
    DAL: TE Jason Witten.
    PHI: None.

    Sit Em:
  • Cowboys Receivers
Not sure what to expect in Stephen McGee’s first NFL start.

  • Eagles Starters
Stuck in the No. 3 seed, the Eagles will rest their starters.

Weekly NFL Fantasy Football Rankings – To be posted Wednesday

    Rams at Seahawks

    Start Em:
  • Sam Bradford, QB, Rams
Josh Freeman just threw for five touchdowns against this sorry Seattle defense. Sam Bradford is a solid play if your quarterback is injured and/or not playing.

  • Obvious Starts:
STL: RB Steven Jackson, WR Danny Amendola (PPR Only), Rams Defense.
    SEA: None.

    Sit Em:
  • Marshawn Lynch, RB, Seahawks
With Charlie Whitehurst under center, the Rams will focus on stopping Marshawn Lynch.

  • Mike Williams, WR, Seahawks
Not with Clipboard Jesus at quarterback.
