2015 Fantasy Football – Waiver-Wire Targets

Below are players I’ll be targeting on the waiver wire this week. As usual, I’m using the 50(ish) percent ownership threshold at Yahoo to determine who is allowed on the list.

Players are listed in the order I would assign waiver priority. A need at one position could trump that priority.

DeAngelo Williams RB, Steelers (24 percent)
We already saw what Williams could do in this offense to start the year and then once again last week after Le’Veon Bell went down. It’s a sad time to be a Bell backer, but do everything you can to get Williams on your team. Empty your FAAB coffers. Trade/punch the No. 1-priority owner square in the gut. Whatever you need to do, do it.

Kamar Aiken WR, Ravens (19 percent)
Now that Steve Smith Sr. is done for the year, someone will have to step up for the Ravens, and Aiken has been the best of the rest on that team. He should be a solid contributor down the stretch.

Ben Watson, TE, Saints (52 percent)
Watson had a huge game last week, and even though the Bud Light guy also had a huge game, this wasn’t the first breakout for Watson this year. He’s now had four solid games in a row and has gotten all buddy-buddy with Drew Brees. Watson’s worth rostering.

Jeremy Langford, RB, Bears (8 percent)
Matt Forte appears to be out at least for the next two weeks due to a MCL injury. Langford will take over lead-back duties while he is out and gets a nice matchup next week against the Chargers’ poor run defense. After that the Bears face the Rams and the Broncos, so unless you need him next week, there’s probably not much reason to pick him up.

Vernon Davis, TE, Broncos (31 percent)
Davis hasn’t been happy in San Francisco for a long while now and with this trade to Denver, he may have a bit of a fantasy renaissance. How much of one is up in the air, but he should quickly become Peyton Manning’s No. 3 target. His upside will be limited on a team that wants to run the ball and play defense (sound familiar Vernon?), but he should be a nice target in the red zone, much like Julius Thomas was the last few years. I wouldn’t break the bank for him, but the upside is still there, which is worth taking a shot on.

Stevie Johnson (43 percent) and Malcom Floyd (19 percent) WRs, Chargers
Keenan Allen is out indefinitely due to a kidney injury, which should help Stevie Johnson and Malcom Floyd see more targets going forward. Allen had 10+ targets per game this season, and those will have to go somewhere.

Marquess Wilson, WR, Bears (4 percent)
Eddie Royal is injured, but we don’t really have much of a timetable for his return due to John Fox thinking that knowledge might set off a swarm of mutant bees that shoot cyanide bullets in people’s eyes. But we do know Royal’s not healthy, and that puts Wilson back on the waiver wire.

David Cobb, RB, Titans (23 percent)
Cobb should be back next week, but he doesn’t appear to be completely ready for prime time, as he showed up for work a “little heavy” according to coach Whisenhunt. Cobb’s still worth a flier, because the Titans’ running back situation is ripe for some new blood.

Nate Washington, WR, Texans (25 percent)
With DeAndre Hopkins getting the bulk of the attention and Cecil Shorts going down with yet another injury, Washington has stepped up with back-to-back big games. He has a bye next week, so don’t grab him unless you have the room, but if you do, he should continue to see plenty of targets, especially with Arian Foster done for the season.
