2018 Fantasy Football – Rookie Dynasty:
- J’Mon Moore, WR, Packers
The Packers took three receivers in the 2018 NFL Draft, but they took Moore first, and he should be the favorite for Jordy Nelson’s spot in the offense. Moore is big, fast and athletic, but fell in the draft due to off-field concerns and a lack of precision in his technique. He will have competition from Equanimeous St. Brown and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, plus there are rumors of Dez Bryant heading up north, so Moore is no lock to start Week 1, although he is in the lead for the moment. - Dallas Goedert, TE, Eagles
I like Gesecki to have the most tight end value early on, but Goedert has the makeup to be a dominant force at the position. Of course, the Eagles already have Zach Ertz and plenty of moveable parts on offense to limit Goedert’s work, but if you have deep benches, he is a guy I would look to hang onto for a while. - Dante Pettis, WR, 49ers
The 49ers needed more weapons for Jimmy Garoppolo, so they traded up into the second round to grab Pettis. He should be able to break into the starting lineup, but his upside will likely be capped with many targets ahead of him in this offense. I like his ability and big-play prowess, but he’s not a slam dunk. - Antonio Callaway, WR, Browns
Callaway is a true talent who can’t seem to get his head on straight enough to be locked into a starting role right out of the draft. He has had plenty of issues, and a suspension wouldn’t be at all surprising at some point in his NFL career. But, if he can get things together, the talent is there. The Browns have strong receivers but have dangled Corey Coleman as a trade candidate, which would be a good opening for Callaway. I’m willing to take the risk on Callaway in rookie drafts. - Hayden Hurst, TE, Ravens
Hurst is a non-blocking tight end who was drafted in the first round. If the Ravens hadn’t beefed up their receiving group and also taken a good tight end in the third round, I’d have Hurst higher than this. As it is, he is older than most rookies and still somewhat new to the position, so there is room for growth, but the Ravens must be more than ready to get him on the field this season after drafting him 25th overall. - Keke Coutee, WR, Texans
Coutee is a gifted deep receiver and will have a strong deep passer in DeShaun Watson throwing him the ball. Will Fuller and DeAndre Hopkins are ahead of Coutee, but Fuller has been unable to stay healthy and could be out the door when he becomes a free agent. If the Texans are anything like they were last season with Watson, Coutee has a lot of upside. - Josh Rosen, QB, Cardinals
Rosen is an accurate passer with all the technical attributes you can ask for from a pro-style offense at UCLA under his belt. Sam Bradford will likely start the season, but we already know his injury history and Arizona has a brutal schedule that should push Rosen into the hot seat at some point this year. He is not going to be a top-five quarterback in fantasy but he has the ability to be a top-15 signal-caller throughout his career. - Sam Darnold, QB, Jets
Darnold has a higher upside than Josh Rosen but also has worse footwork and decision-making ability. But at just 21 years old, there is room for Darnold to improve and he has shown enough to believe some work could turn him into a top quarterback in the league. - Justin Jackson, RB, Chargers
Jackson went 251st overall, which isn’t exactly reassuring for his NFL career, but he landed in a good spot and has the measurables to be a plus NFL player. He should be Melvin Gordon’s backup, and with Gordon’s workload and poor efficiency stats, there is room for Jackson to make a name for himself. It’s a longshot, but if you are worried about Gordon’s poor yards per carry, Jackson is someone to grab. - DaeSean Hamilton, WR, Broncos
The Broncos could save a lot of cash if they let Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders walk sooner than later, which would push Courtland Sutton and Hamilton into the starting positions. Hamilton is a nice prospect with good physical traits as well as great route-running technique. He’s not going to blow past you, but the best receivers don’t need to. I like his ability and believe he does have a path to the starting lineup.
