2019 Fantasy Football Rankings - Tight Ends (Aug. 29):
Top 10 | 11-20 | 21-45

Other Positions: QB | RB | WR | Top 250

  1. Cameron Brate, TE, Buccaneers. Bye: 7.
It’s unfortunate for Cameron Brate that he has to lose targets and end-zone looks to O.J. Howard. Brate is just a mediocre fantasy option as it stands now, but he’ll be worth having as a starter if Howard gets hurt again.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 30 catches. 360 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 92.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 122.

  2. Greg Olsen, TE, Panthers. Bye: 7.
Greg Olsen will reportedly return to the Panthers for at least one more year. Olsen hasn’t been able to stay healthy the past two seasons – he’s missed 16 games since 2017 – and he turns 34 in March, so he’s not a viable starter anymore.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 48 catches. 510 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 91.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 139.

  3. Jordan Reed, TE, Redskins. Bye: 10.
SEPT.3 UPDATE: Jordan Reed remains in concussion protocol. There was positive news regarding Reed about a week ago, but the oft-injured tight end hasn’t been able to pracitce. It appears as though he’ll miss Week 1 at the very least.

AUG. 28 UPDATE: Jordan Reed is expected to be ready by Week 1 despite suffering the seventh concussion of his career. While this is good news for Reed, it’s also a reminder that the Redskin tight end can’t be relied on to stay healthy. Feel free to spend a late-round fantasy pick on him, but don’t take him prior to the 13th round.

AUG. 23 UPDATE: There was a fantasy-relevant injury in the Redskins-Falcons game. Jordan Reed had to exit with a concussion. This was the seventh concussion in Reed’s career, so he may have to miss some games. This is a shame, as the oft-injured tight end has endured horrible luck throughout his career.

Jordan Reed seemed to be mostly over his injuries in 2015 and 2016 when he missed just six combined games. However, 2017 was a lost season for him, and he was banged up often in 2018. Reed is simply impossible to trust.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 55 catches. 580 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 91.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 146.

  4. Irv Smith Jr., TE, Vikings. Bye: 12.
Irv Smith Jr. will likely start at tight end at some point in his rookie year, as Kyle Rudolph is expected to be traded. Smith has potential for the long haul, but it’s difficult to trust a rookie tight end.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 42 catches. 510 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 91.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 133.

  5. Eric Ebron, TE, Colts. Bye: 6.
AUG. 25 UPDATE: Andrew Luck has retired, rendering Eric Ebron worthless in fantasy.

Eric Ebron was a perennial disappointment in Detroit, but he finally lived up to expectations with Andrew Luck, becoming a touchdown machine with 13 scores. Ebron re-signed with the Colts, which was a great decision for his career.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 50 catches. 570 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 87.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 137.

  6. Tyler Eifert, TE, Bengals. Bye: 9.
Tyler Eifert was off to a great start for the Bengals in 2018, but he suffered a broken ankle in Week 4. Eifert should be 100 percent by training camp, but he’s so injury-prone that he’s very difficult to trust as a starter. If you’re required to have two tight ends on your roster, Eifert is worth owning as a backup with high upside.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 45 catches. 540 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 87.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 132.

  7. Ian Thomas, TE, Panthers. Bye: 7.
Ian Thomas, despite being a fourth-round rookie, was fantastic down the stretch. Thomas would’ve been designated as a legitimate TE1 had Olsen retired, but Olsen will return for another year.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 44 catches. 420 yards. 4 total TD.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 86.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 130.

  8. Josh Oliver, TE, Jaguars. Bye: 10.
Chosen in the third round, Josh Oliver has a chance to start soon. He should develop well with Nick Foles.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 44 catches. 490 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 84.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 128.

  9. Noah Fant, TE, Broncos. Bye: 10.
AUG. 2 UPDATE: Noah Fant didn’t do much in the Hall of Fame Game. He saw three targets, but caught just one for seven yards. He dropped a pass and ran a poor route. Fant is a raw rookie and may not contribute much this year.

Noah Fant is slated to start right away for the Broncos, which makes him an interesting option when considering that Joe Flacco likes to throw to tight ends. Fant has high upside, but has a lower floor than T.J. Hockenson. I wouldn’t pick him in re-draft leagues, but he’s a solid choice in dynasty formats.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 40 catches. 490 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 83.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 103.

  10. Tyler Kroft, TE, Bills. Bye: 6.
Tyler Kroft had a chance to be Cincinnati’s starting tight end in the wake of Tyler Eifert’s injury, but he got hurt as well. Kroft is now Buffalo’s starting tight end, but I wouldn’t expect much from him.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 52 catches. 500 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 80.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 132.

  11. Jace Sternberger, TE, Packers. Bye: 11.
You have to love the long-term potential with Jace Sternberger, as he’ll get to play with Aaron Rodgers the next several years. The problem in the present is that Jimmy Graham is currently standing in his way.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 44 catches. 490 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 79.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 123.

  12. Jason Witten, TE, Cowboys. Bye: 8.
Jason Witten has come out of retirement, and it all started with his mock draft, which he was so gracious to post on this Web site. Witten will be a reliable third-down option for Dak Prescott, but don’t expect too much.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 53 catches. 460 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 76.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 129.

  13. Dawson Knox, TE, Bills. Bye: 6.
JUNE 3 UPDATE: Miles Sanders is sidelined with a hamstring injury. This is not enough for me to downgrade him in the 2019 Fantasy Football Rankings, but it’s something to monitor. Sanders might be 100 percent by training camp, but soft-tissue injuries tend to linger.

The Bills don’t have very much at tight end, so Dawson Knox will have a chance to contribute right away. He has some good long-term potential as well to develop alongside Josh Allen.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 40 catches. 440 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 73.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 113.

  14. Jonnu Smith, TE, Titans. Bye: 11.
Jonnu Smith was a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He showed some potential in the second half of the season, but he’ll need Delanie Walker to get hurt again in order to be a factor in Tennessee’s offense.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 24 catches. 280 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 71.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 95.

  15. Mike Gesicki, TE, Dolphins. Bye: 5.
Mike Gesicki had a disappointing rookie year, catching only 22 passes for 202 yards and no touchdowns. He has plenty of potential, but the Dolphins will need to find a good quarterback first.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 44 catches. 440 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 68.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 112.

  16. Hayden Hurst, TE, Ravens. Bye: 8.
Hayden Hurst is a first-round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft. He caught just 13 passes in 2018, though I imagine that the Ravens will want to get him more integrated into the offense, given the resource they used on him. Unfortunately, Lamar Jackson’s passing isn’t very good, so Hurst’s production will continue to be limited.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 34 catches. 390 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 67.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 101.

  17. Gerald Everett, TE, Rams. Bye: 9.
Gerald Everett had 33 receptions in 2018, most of which came late in the year when Cooper Kupp and Todd Gurley were injured. Everett shouldn’t be owned unless there are similar circumstances.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 36 catches. 380 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 66.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 102.

  18. Vernon Davis, TE, Redskins. Bye: 10.
Vernon Davis, now 35, doesn’t have much remaining in the tank. He’s an afterthought at this point, but can be started in great matchups as long as Jordan Reed is out.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 28 catches. 370 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 59.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 87.

  19. Jack Doyle, TE, Colts. Bye: 6.
Jack Doyle suffered a serious kidney problem in 2018, but it sounds like he’ll be able to play this upcoming season. If Doyle can play at 100-percent capacity, he’ll be a viable starting tight end, as Andrew Luck loves throwing to tight ends.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 40 catches. 380 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 56.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 96.

  20. Charles Clay, TE, Cardinals. Bye: 12.
Charles Clay, who played 16 games in a season throughout his career just once, finished his 2018 campaign with just 21 receptions. He’s well off the fantasy radar, especially with a rookie quarterback throwing the ball to him once again.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 39 catches. 370 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 55.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 94.

  21. Tyler Higbee, TE, Rams. Bye: 9.
The weaker of the two Ram tight ends, Tyler Higbee might be worth rostering if Gerald Everett gets hurt.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 31 catches. 360 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 54.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 85.

  22. Foster Moreau, TE, Raiders. Bye: 6.
There isn’t much ahead of Foster Moreau on the depth chart, so he could be an impactful presence in Oakland’s offense as Jared Cook’s replacement in the near future.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 26 catches. 310 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 54.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 80.

  23. Ricky Seals-Jones, TE, Cardinals. Bye: 12.
Ricky Seals-Jones was a huge disappointment in 2018. He still has some upside, but at this point, it’s safe to say that he sucks at football. Move on to find another sleeper tight end.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 38 catches. 410 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 53.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 91.

  24. Ben Watson, TE, Patriots. Bye: 10.
Ben Watson came out of retirement to join the Patriots. I believe Austin Seferian-Jenkins will receive more targets of the two, but Watson will contribute with some touchdowns.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 30 catches. 340 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 52.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 82.

  25. Jesse James, TE, Lions. Bye: 5.
Jesse James had some fantasy buzz around him when he signed with the Lions this offseason, but Detroit since added T.J. Hockenson.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 35 catches. 390 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 51.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 86.

  26. Blake Jarwin, TE, Cowboys. Bye: 8.
Blake Jarwin didn’t do much in the early part of the 2018 season – he didn’t even catch a pass until Week 5 – but he had a nice finish to the year, even logging seven receptions for 119 yards and three touchdowns in Week 17. Jarwin’s stock was pointing up prior to Jason Witten’s return to the field.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 26 catches. 300 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 42.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 68.

  27. Antonio Gates, TE, Chargers. Bye: 12.
Antonio Gates may retire this offseason. Even if he returns to the team, he won’t be a viable option, even if Hunter Henry gets hurt again.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 22 catches. 260 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 38.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 60.

  28. Kahale Warring, TE, Texans. Bye: 10.
AUG. 29 UPDATE: Kahale Warring could be placed on injured reserve because of multiple injuries. Warring was a once-promising rookie, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be filling Houston’s need for a tight end this season.

It seems as though Kahale Warring will have a chance to contribute as a rookie, given that the incumbent tight end, Ryan Griffin, was so angry about the Warring selection that he punched through a window and was arrested for public intoxication the weekend of the draft. If so, Warring could catch a bunch of passes from Deshaun Watson, who will still have to get rid of the ball quickly.

Projected 2019 Fantasy Stats: 20 catches. 240 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 36.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 56.

  29. Nick Vannett, TE, Seahawks. Bye: 11.
Nick Vannett is a sub-par tight end who caught 29 passes in 2018. The Seahawks didn’t upgrade this position in the offseason, but it doesn’t matter.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 25 catches. 240 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2019 Fantasy Points: 36.
Projected 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 61.
