This is a 2019 Fantasy Football PPR Mock Draft I took part in with 11 friends on Facebook and followers on Twitter (@walterfootball. As usual, I’ll have analysis of my picks, as well as the best and worst selections every two rounds.
Just a heads up that we have 2019 Fantasy Football Mock Drafts every Wednesday afternoon or evening. Check out the forum or follow me on Twitter to find out when the next mock draft will be.
MY PICKS, ROUNDS 1-2: I figured I’d go WR-WR with my first two picks at the No. 10 position, and I turned out to be correct. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Adam Thielen were the best players available in this PPR format. I didn’t see a running back worth taking at either of my selections.
BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 1-2: Keenan Allen was chosen way too late. He should have gone much earlier than 2.10.
WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 1-2: Ezekiel Elliott at fourth overall, especially in a PPR league, is too high for my liking, given his holdout potential. I also didn’t like the Antonio Brown pick. There are many things going against Brown heading into 2019, so I’d rather let someone else take him.
MY PICKS, ROUNDS 3-4: I went WR-WR with my first two picks, so I chose RB-RB with my next two choices. Phillip Lindsay and Mark Ingram were two of the three best players available for me anyhow.
I must mention this: I considered Patrick Mahomes at 4.03. Mahomes was the top player available by a wide margin, but I was too scared to miss out on an RB2 in the fourth round. I don’t think taking Mahomes would be a mistake.
What do you guys think? Should I have gone with Mahomes in the fourth round, or would you have chosen Ingram or another back as well?
BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 3-4: Mahomes has to be the best choice in these two rounds. He’s just a steal in the fourth frame. Another steal is Melvin Gordon. I know that he may hold out the entire year, but he’s a huge bargain in the middle of the third frame.
WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 3-4: Josh Jacobs is on my 2019 Fantasy Football Busts list, so check that out to see why I think he’s being drafted too early.
MY PICKS, ROUNDS 5-6: I was planning to go with the two best running backs or receivers with these two picks, and the top players available for me happened to be receivers. I was really hoping for Chris Carson to fall to me, but Pistol made a great pick at 5.07.
BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 5-6: Carson, obviously. I even considered him in the fourth round! I also liked some of the receivers chosen late in the sixth round. All of those picks were good, but I was especially in favor of Dante Pettis and Will Fuller.
WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 5-6: I’m not sure D.J. Moore is the top Panther receiver you want, so taking him in the fifth round is a stretch. I also feel that all of the quarterbacks and tight ends here were unnecessary, save for perhaps Deshaun Watson. I’ve said this before, but running backs and wide receivers are very thin this year. Don’t miss out on them!
MY PICKS, ROUNDS 7-8: I’ve stated before that I’m going to wait until the eighth round to take a quarterback. However, look at my situation. None of the guys after me in the seventh round had chosen signal-callers yet, and both had three running backs on their roster already. I really wanted Darrell Henderson at 7.10, but I was willing to risk waiting for him in the eighth round because I thought there was less of a chance that Russell Wilson would be available. My gamble paid off.
BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 7-8: I was hoping for Miles Sanders to fall to me, but he was snatched atop Round 7. Meanwhile, Carson Wentz was another sharp quarterback pick in these two rounds.
WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 7-8: Rams defense? Wow. You don’t take a defense this early, especially if it’s not the best one in the NFL!
MY PICKS, ROUNDS 9-10: I screwed up here. I was searching for Justice Hill, but couldn’t find him available, so I assumed that he had been chosen and that I missed it. I later realized that I was clicked on the receiver tab, which is why I couldn’t find him. With the clock ticking down, I chose Ronald Jones. That’s not the worst pick, but I would have preferred Hill.
I liked my other pick much better. Devin Singletary is atop my Fantasy Football Sleepers list.
BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 9-10: Cam Newton seems like a steal in the ninth round. I also liked some of my other sleeper selections, including Geronimo Allison, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Curtis Samuel, Damien Harris, and of course, Hill.
WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 9-10: Don’t take a defense in the first 10 rounds. Not under any circumstances.
MY PICKS, ROUNDS 11-12: I just watched the Saints-Eagles regular-season game from last year. I forgot how dominant Tre’Quan Smith was in that game. A sign of things to come?
I found my tight end in the 12th round. That’s when you should be selecting your starter at the position unless Travis Kelce, George Kittle or Zach Ertz magically fall to you two rounds below their ADP.
BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 11-12: Had I not needed a tight end, I would have chosen Carlos Hyde or Darwin Thompson. I also would have considered Justin Jackson had he dropped seven more spots. Meanwhile, DeSean Jackson was another receiver I was considering. I’ve been a Jackson detractor for a while, but Jackson seems like he has great potential this year, as he’ll be playing with the best quarterback he’s ever been paired with.
WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 11-12: I still don’t like defenses this early. There’s no reason to choose one until the final round. I also didn’t like the Dak Prescott pick. He has zero upside in fantasy.
MY PICKS, ROUNDS 13-15: Josh Allen is my high-upside QB2, while Jakobi Meyers is someone I have in my Fantasy Football Sleepers page. Meanwhile, Ty Long might just be the best kicker no one has ever heard of, including me.
It’s worth noting that I did not choose a defense. I wanted Meyers instead. There’s no reason to pick a defense or a kicker in your fantasy drafts. Spend your final picks on high-upside players instead and worry about finding a kicker and a defense just prior to Week 1 beginning.
BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 13-15: High-upside picks include: James Washington, DeVante Parker, Maurice Harris and Josh Gordon.
WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 13-15: Low-upside picks include: Chris Conley, Tyrell Williams and Randall Cobb.
‘ll be adjusting some of my Fantasy Football Rankings based on these draft results, so check them out. Also, we’ll be doing mock drafts every Wednesday afternoon or evening, so come join us!
My Fantasy Team:
QB – Russell Wilson, Seahawks
RB – Phillip Lindsay, Broncos
RB – Mark Ingram, Ravens
WR – JuJu Smith-Schuster, Steelers
WR – Adam Thielen, Vikings
RB/WR – Tyler Lockett, Seahawks
TE – Austin Hooper, Falcons
K – Ty Long, Chargers
DEF – None
BN – Robby Anderson, WR, Jets
BN – Darrell Henderson, RB, Rams
BN – Ronald Jones, RB, Buccaneers
BN – Devin Singletary, RB, Bills
BN – Tre’Quan Smith, WR, Saints
BN – Josh Allen, QB, Bills
BN – Jakobi Meyers, WR, Patriots
I think this is a fine first PPR team. I don’t think I’m weak anywhere. My receivers are especially strong. My running backs aren’t as top-heavy because I missed out on the initial flurry at the No. 10 spot, but I have a bunch of players with great upside. Russell Wilson is a solid quarterback, while Austin Hooper is an undervalued tight end.
