2019 Fantasy Football Mock Draft

Aug. 8, 2019.

This is a 2019 Fantasy Football Mock Draft I took part in with 11 friends on Facebook and followers on Twitter (@walterfootball. As usual, I’ll have analysis of my picks, as well as the best and worst selections every two rounds.

Just a heads up that we have 2019 Fantasy Football Mock Drafts every Wednesday afternoon or evening. Check out the forum or follow me on Twitter to find out when the next mock draft will be.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 1-2: I own the ninth pick in one of my higher-stakes fantasy leagues, so I wanted to practice out of that slot. It’s standard scoring, except it starts three receivers.

Even with two receivers and a flex, I may have gone this route. I love Tyreek Hill and JuJu Smith-Schuster. There are good value running backs to be had in Rounds 3-4, so I was fine with taking these two over Leonard Fournette.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 1-2: I liked the Fournette, Odell Beckham and DeAndre Hopkins picks, but I can’t ignore Saquon Barkley going third overall. That was the best selection in the first round!

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 1-2: I can’t advocate for a tight end, given how thin running back and receiver are. I love Travis Kelce, but not as a second-round pick in fantasy.

I also wasn’t a fan of Dalvin Cook at 2.02. He has yet to last a full year, so I believe he’ll miss some time this season.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 3-4: See what I mean about value running backs? I’m perfectly fine with Mark Ingram and Phillip Lindsay as my top two running backs. Ingram is going to have a huge workload, while Lindsay’s run blocking will improve under Mike Munchak.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 3-4: I was hoping for one of Keenan Allen or David Montgomery to fall to me at 3.09, but that didn’t happen because wang and “8” made great picks. I also liked the Chris Godwin selection. I think I would have chosen him if Lindsay hadn’t made it back to me.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 3-4: It was a bit too early for the two tight ends in Round 4, and I don’t know about Marlon Mack at 4.12 without Andrew Luck.

The worst pick was Antonio Brown. He’s atop my Fantasy Football Busts list. It would not surprise me if he flat-out quit on the Raiders in the middle of the year if they start 2-7, or something.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 5-6: I was very pleased to see Calvin Ridley drop down to me at 5.09. He’s a steal that late. I liked the Will Fuller pick as well. If this is how my 3-WR league begins, I’ll be very pleased.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 5-6: I love Tyler Lockett, and I was hoping he would fall to me, but he didn’t make it there. I was also going to consider Tevin Coleman at 5.09 if Ridley wasn’t on the board.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 5-6: The tight ends were chosen too early. Again, running back and receiver are very thin, while tight end is extremely deep. Wait on tight ends.

Elsewhere, I don’t know about Duke Johnson at 5.11. I get that Johnson is the best running back remaining on the Texans, but Houston will sign or trade for someone. Johnson is good in PPR leagues, but the fifth round in standard formats is too early for him.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 7-8: I like waiting until the eighth round for Russell Wilson, but I was confident the other players I was targeting at 7.09 would make it back to me (and they did.) Meanwhile, two teams in the 10-12 range didn’t have quarterbacks, so I thought there was a good chance they would take Wilson. One picked a quarterback, and I have to wonder if he would have opted for Wilson instead of Matt Ryan if the Seattle signal-caller happened to be available.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 7-8: I wasn’t planning on taking Wilson initially. I was hoping one of Curtis Samuel, Dante Pettis, Devin Singletary and Dede Westbrook would drop to me. They didn’t because four fantasy players made great picks.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 7-8: Nothing really stands out as a bad selection in these two rounds, save for Vance McDonald. You can get someone of his caliber in the 12th round.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 9-10: I don’t love LeSean McCoy as long as he’s with the Bills because Devin Singletary will eat into his workload. However, there’s a good chance he’ll be traded, perhaps to Houston.

As for Dare Ogunbowale, I’ve seen too many of my fantasy football sleepers get snatched off the board earlier than normal, so I had to make sure I obtained at least once.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 9-10: Speaking of sleepers, Justice Hill was a great pick atop Round 9. I also liked the Damien Harris and Kareem Hunt choices.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 9-10: Don’t take a defense in the first 10 rounds. Not under any circumstances. I’m also not crazy about Larry Fitzgerald at 10.08. There’s no upside.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 11-12: I don’t trust Derrick Henry to repeat what he did last year, so I think Dion Lewis is worth obtaining in the double-digit rounds.

I found my tight end in the 12th round. That’s when you should be selecting your starter at the position unless Travis Kelce, George Kittle or Zach Ertz magically fall to you two rounds below their ADP.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 11-12: Justin Jackson could be a big producer if Melvin Gordon’s holdout lasts the full nine weeks. I also liked the DeSean Jackson and Tre’Quan Smith picks. Jackson will be playing with the best quarterback he’s ever been paired with, while Smith is Drew Brees’ No. 2 receiver.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 11-12: I still don’t like defenses this early. There’s no reason to choose one until the final round. I also didn’t like the Dak Prescott pick. He has zero upside in fantasy.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 13-15: I was debating between Preston Williams and Josh Allen with the 13th pick. Williams has more upside than a backup quarterback, but then I took Allen anyway.

Speaking of which, it’s worth noting that I did not choose a defense. I wanted Allen instead. There’s no reason to pick a defense or a kicker in your fantasy drafts. Spend your final picks on high-upside players instead and worry about finding a kicker and a defense just prior to Week 1 beginning.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 13-15: High-upside picks include: Deebo Samuel, C.J. Anderson, Mecole Hardman and Tyler Eifert.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 13-15: Low-upside picks include: Keke Coutee, Jerick McKinnon and Cole Beasley.

‘ll be adjusting some of my Fantasy Football Rankings based on these draft results, so check them out. Also, we’ll be doing mock drafts every Wednesday afternoon or evening, so come join us!

My Fantasy Team:

QB – Russell Wilson, Seahawks
RB – Mark Ingram, Ravens
RB – Phillip Lindsay, Broncos
WR – Tyreek Hill, Chiefs
WR – JuJu Smith-Schuster, Steelers
RB/WR – Calvin Ridley, WR, Falcons
TE – T.J. Hockenson, Lions
K – Tristan Vizcaino, Bengals
DEF – None

BN – Will Fuller, WR, Texans
BN – Geronimo Allison, WR, Packers
BN – LeSean McCoy, RB, Bills/Texans?
BN – Dare Ogunbowale, RB, Buccaneers
BN – Dion Lewis, RB, Titans
BN – Preston Williams, WR, Dolphins
BN – Josh Allen, QB, Bills

As I wrote earlier, I’ll be pleased if my mock draft begins like it did. I’d want a little bit more running back depth, but if McCoy is traded and becomes a starter elsewhere, I think I’ll be fine.
