2019 Fantasy Football Mock Draft

Aug. 1, 2019.

This is a 2019 Fantasy Football Mock Draft I took part in with 11 friends on Facebook and followers on Twitter (@walterfootball. As usual, I’ll have analysis of my picks, as well as the best and worst selections every two rounds.

Just a heads up that we have 2019 Fantasy Football Mock Drafts every Wednesday afternoon or evening. Check out the forum or follow me on Twitter to find out when the next mock draft will be.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 1-2: I was worried I’d have to go receiver at No. 7 overall, but Le’Veon Bell fell to me. I think Bell is going to be great this year, so I was happy to land him.

I was shocked Odell Beckham Jr. fell to me at 2.06. I would have considered him at the beginning of Round 2.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 1-2: I was hoping JuJu Smith-Schuster would make it to my pick in the second round, but Jacob was able to steal him. That was the only pick that really stood out as being overly positive in the first two rounds.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 1-2: I can’t get behind Davlin Cook in the second round, especially in the early part of it. I’m concerned about his health, and his blocking sucks.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 3-4: I think Devonta Freeman is undervalued this year. He was out most of last year, but he should bounce back and perform well behind an improved offensive line. His touches could increase as well with Tevin Coleman gone.

It was a close call between Phillip Lindsay and some of the receivers at 4.06. I went with Lindsay because there were several receivers I was considering, so I figured I’d be able to obtain one in the fifth frame.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 3-4: I was hoping Leonard Fournette would fall to me in the third round, so I loved that pick. Stefon Diggs was someone I was hoping for in the fourth frame. I also liked some of the receivers in Round 4, including Calvin Ridley and Robert Woods.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 3-4: Josh Jacobs is on my 2019 Fantasy Football Busts list, so check that out to see why I think he’s being drafted too early. Sony Michel also comes with too much risk, given his knee scope.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 5-6: Will Fuller was one of the aforementioned receivers I was looking at in the fourth round. Fuller is healthy and should pick up where he left off last season.

Evan Engram is a decent pick in Round 6, though in hindsight, I wish I would’ve gone with a running back or a receiver. As I discovered, the depth at the two positions absolutely sucks.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 5-6: The first three picks of the fifth round were also receivers I liked, especially Chris Godwin. That was a great pick. Meanwhile, I may have targeted Miles Sanders in the sixth round had I opted for a running back or a receiver, but Jacob made sure that wasn’t an option for me.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 5-6: Kenyan Drake may not win the starting running back job, and even if he does, he’ll be running behind a poor offensive line. I also don’t like Lamar Miller, but everyone knows my opinion on him by now.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 7-8: I love Geronimo Allison this season. He’s going to be starting in the slot with Randall Cobb gone, and Aaron Rodgers loves throwing to that area. Meanwhile, DeSean Jackson has shown some great rapport with Carson Wentz.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 7-8: I may have considered Dante Pettis over Allison. In fact, I almost chose Pettis in the sixth round.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 7-8: I don’t like Corey Davis at all. I hate that passing offense, and Davis hasn’t shown any signs of being a quality fantasy player.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 9-10: I panicked a bit here. I thought I’d be deciding between Russell Wilson and Andrew Luck. When Wilson went off the board, I began searching for Luck, not realizing he was already chosen. With time running out, I went with Adrian Peterson. I do not like this pick and wouldn’t recommend it.

My quarterback ended up being Jameis Winston. He has the potential to have his best year of his career under Bruce Arians.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 9-10: Wilson is one of the top picks, obviously. Cam Newton, too. Elsewhere, D’Onta Foreman and Damien Harris provide tremendous upside, as they could be the starting running back for their respective teams.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 9-10: Don’t take a defense in the first 10 rounds. That seems like the worst pick in these two rounds. I’m not high on Trey Burton either. There are similar tight ends to be had later.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 11-12: Here’s another late-round running back who could end up being a starter. Even if Justice Hill doesn’t pass Mark Ingram, he’ll have plenty of touches. And speaking of the Ravens, Lamar Jackson should be a good fantasy quarterback this year because of his rushing, so I like him as a backup.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 11-12: I considered Justin Jackson with my 12th pick, but I wanted a backup quarterback. Curtis Samuel and D.K. Metcalf have good upside that I like in this range.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 11-12: I still don’t like defenses this early. There’s no reason to choose one until the final round.

MY PICKS, ROUNDS 13-15: Tre’Quan Smith is someone I have in my Fantasy Football Sleepers page. Meanwhile, I love Green Bay’s defense this year, and I think Tristian Vizcaino is a great kicker. Just kidding, I never heard of him.

BEST PICKS, ROUNDS 13-15: High-upside picks include: DeVante Parker, Mecole Hardman, Josh Gordon and Mike Davis.

WORST PICKS, ROUNDS 13-15: Low-upside picks include: Derek Carr, Donte Moncrief and Marquise Brown.

‘ll be adjusting some of my Fantasy Football Rankings based on these draft results, so check them out. Also, we’ll be doing mock drafts every Wednesday afternoon or evening, so come join us!

My Fantasy Team:

QB – Jameis Winston, Buccaneers
RB – Le’Veon Bell, Jets
RB – Devonta Freeman, Falcons
WR – Odell Beckham Jr., Browns
WR – Will Fuller, Texans
RB/WR – Phillip Lindsay, RB, Broncos
TE – Evan Engram, Giants
K – Tristan Vizcaino, Bengals
DEF – Packers Defense

BN – Geronimo Allison, WR, Packers
BN – DeSean Jackson, WR, Eagles
BN – Adrian Peterson, RB, Redskins
BN – Justice Hill, RB, Ravens
BN – Lamar Jackson, QB, Ravens
BN – Tre’Quan Smith, WR, Saints

I don’t think this is that bad for a first non-PPR attempt. I was glad to have some players drop to me, and I don’t think I’m weak in any area, except for perhaps quarterback.

Something I learned in this draft is that running back and receiver depth is sorely lacking, so I think I’m going to manually bump up those players in the cheat sheet.
