2015 Fantasy Football Stock Report – Weeks of Aug. 24

Aug. 31

Tre Mason, RB, Rams
Tre Mason sprained his MCL and wil be questionable for Week 1. This is significant, as Mason was going to enter the season as the starter until Todd Gurley was cleared for action. With Mason banged up, his fantasy value has diminished considerably.

Aug. 30

Kirk Cousins, QB, Redskins
Kirk Cousins will reportedly start Week 1, so he’s on the fantasy radar. However, he’s only an option in 2-QB leagues, and a weak one at that, because once things begin going south for him, there’s no turning back.

Robert Griffin, QB, Redskins
Robert Griffin has been benched for Week 1, according to an ESPN report. He shouldn’t have been on your fantasy roster anyway.

Aug. 29

David Cobb, RB, Titans
David Cobb is out for the third preseason game with a calf injury. With Bishop Sankey looking better, Cobb isn’t much of an option in re-draft leagues.

Brandon LaFell, WR, Patriots
It’s sounding like Brandon LaFell could open the season on the PUP list because of a foot injury. Avoid him in your fantasy leagues.

Aug. 28

Martavis Bryant, WR, Steelers
Well, this sucks. Non-clueless fantasy players knew that Martavis Bryant was being way overdrafted this summer, but now he’s sure to fall in the wake of his four-game suspension. Bryant could still be taken too early because four games doesn’t sound like a big deal, but unless he dropped to Rounds 11-12, I wouldn’t touch him. For more on what this means for the Steelers, check out my NFL Disaster Grades.

Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Steelers
Ben Roethlisberger should still be a top-six fantasy quarterback in the wake of Martavis Bryant’s suspension, but his numbers could dip a little bit. Remember, Roethlisberger also won’t have Le’Veon Bell for the first two contests, so he could get off to a slow start.

Markus Wheaton, WR, Steelers
The good news is that Martavis Bryant’s suspension will give Ben Roethlisberger even more of an opportunity to get comfortable with Markus Wheaton. The bad news is that Wheaton’s ADP will rise. So much for being a Fantasy Football Sleeper.

Aug. 27

Davante Adams, WR, Packers
Randall Cobb told the media that he believes Davante Adams is set to have a “breakout year.” It’s encouraging to have a teammate talk up Adams, who has seen his ADP rise recently. He was chosen in the fourth round of a real draft I was in Wednesday night.

Michael Floyd, WR, Cardinals
Michael Floyd has been out for the entire preseason, but Bruce Arians said he’s optimistic that Floyd will be able to suit up Week 1. Floyd has become a bit of a value pick at his reduced ADP. He has out-produced Larry Fitzgerald the past couple of seasons.

Aug. 26

C.J. Anderson, RB, Broncos
Ronnie Hillman has been terrific in the preseason so far, but C.J. Anderson is still the No. 1 back. He got a boost today, thanks to the Evan Mathis signing. Check out my Free Agent Signing Grades for my take on the Mathis addition.

Montee Ball, RB, Broncos
Not only is Montee Ball behind Ronnie Hillman on the depth chart; he is actually battling Juwan Thompson to be the third running back. Ball is undraftable at this point.

Mike Evans, WR, Buccaneers
Mike Evans won’t play in the final preseason games because of a hamstring injury. He’s likely to be ready for Week 1, but that’s not a certainty. Hamstring injuries tend to linger for receivers, so this could derail the early part of Evans’ fantasy season. He could be completely fine, but he’s now a risky selection.

Chris Ivory, RB, Jets
We saw Chris Ivory catch some passes in the second preseason game, and it turns out that wasn’t a fluke. Ivory has been doing lots of work in the passing game during training camp, so it appears as though he’s set to have an uptick in receptions. He’s an underrated RB2.

Aug. 25

Arian Foster, RB, Texans
There’s now speculation that Arian Foster could return in early October. It’s not definite though, so don’t get too excited. Also, it should be noted that Foster returning early could cause him to aggravate the injury. My advice is to stay away from him.

Ty Montgomery, WR, Packers
Ty Montgomery is the favorite to be the third receiver in Green Bay, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. According to Silverstein, Jeff Janis has been “too inconsistent.”

Aug. 24

Reggie Wayne, WR, Patriots
Reggie Wayne has signed with New England, but I wouldn’t draft him at all. The Patriots have tried going with washed-up receivers before (see Joey Galloway, Torry Holt, Chad Ochocinco, etc.) and they’ve all failed. Wayne will be the latest disappointment, as he doesn’t have anything left in the tank. Besides, I don’t even like Tom Brady this year, so I’ll be shocked if Wayne emerges as a productive fantasy player.
