Spencer Fano Prospect Preview
By Charlie Campbell
Career Recap:
Over the past couple of seasons, Fano has been an impact player at the point of attack for the Utes. On top of being an effective blocker, Fano has been versatile with 11 starts at left tackle and 13 at right tackle. Fano forms a good tackle tandem with Caleb Lomu.
2025 Season Outlook:
The best games to watch Fano in 2025 could include Texas Tech (Sep. 20), Arizona State (Oct. 11), BYU (Oct. 18), Colorado (Oct. 25), and Kansas State (Nov. 22).
Prospect Summary:
For the NFL, there is a lot to like about Fano as an edge blocker. He has good size, quickness, athleticism, and strength. It can be difficult to find players with Fano’s well-rounded skill set, and on top of his physical talent, Fano plays the game with a nasty demeanor and looks like he enjoys the violence of football. Fano could be a riser throughout the 2026 draft process as it would not be surprising if scouts, coaches, and general managers fall in love with his tape.
In pass protection, Fano has a lot of natural ability to help protect the quarterback. Fano is an athletic edge blocker who is an easy mover. He has good agility to get depth in his drop and quick feet to seal the edge. Fano can play the typewriter with his feet to mirror speed rushers, and he can sink his weight to stonewall bull rushes. For the NFL, it wouldn’t hurt for Fano to continue to get stronger in his lower body to anchor against pro power rushers.
In the ground game, Fano is impressive. He is fast to fire to the second level and is athletic to hit blocks in space. Fano packs a punch when he gets there, and he will smash defenders with violence. Fano blocks through the whistle and looks to finish off defenders. There are many plays where Fano will bury defenders in the ground and punish them. Fano packs a punch off the line and shows the ability to drive block. He could be a good fit for power man or zone blocking at the pro level.
It wouldn’t hurt if Fano added more functional strength for the next level, but overall, he is a talented prospect who looks like a future starting tackle.
2026 NFL Draft Expectations:
Entering the 2025 season, Fano looks like he has early-round potential for the 2026 NFL Draft.
