L.T. Overton Prospect Preview

By Charlie Campbell

Career Recap:

Texas A&M produced some excellent recruiting classes in the final years of Jimbo Fisher and Overton was one of those top signees. With the Aggies, he had 31 tackles in 2022 and 17 stops in 2023 while rotating with some other future pro linemen like Walter Nolen. In 2024, Overton had a breakout season after transferring to Alabama. He was a very active defender at the point of attack for the Crimson Tide as he totaled 42 tackles with two sacks, one forced fumble, and one pass broken up.

2025 Season Outlook:

The best games to watch Overton include Georgia (Sep. 27), Tennessee (Oct. 18), South Carolina (Oct. 25), LSU (Nov. 8), Oklahoma (Nov. 15), and Auburn (Nov. 29). In the season finale in the Iron Bowl, Overton could take on some early-round picks in Auburn left tackle Xavier Chaplin and center Conner Lew.

Prospect Summary:

The NFL is always looking for athletic, strong, and quick defensive linemen with versatility, and Overton definitely fits that description. In 2024, Alabama lined Overton up at defensive tackle and end, playing a variety of techniques along the defensive line. While Overton is versatile, as a pro, he would fit best as a defensive tackle in the passing-driven pro league. Overton is strong enough to be a power end, but he does not have the speed to be a rush end and is better equipped to try to beat guards with a speed rush rather than offensive tackles. Thus, Overton would fit best as a three technique or 4i in the NFL.

As a pass rusher, Overton shows a nice combination of skills that make him tough to block at the point of attack. Overton has good quickness out of his stance to fire upfield and get into the chest of blockers. He shows a strong upper body to shed blocks, and does a nice job of using his hands and feet at the same time. Overton has a strong bull rush, and he can ride blockers back to the quarterback. With quality athleticism, Overton is able to move and is agile to redirect to get on the edge of blockers. Overton has quickness to close and is physical when he gets to the quarterback. Overton has quality speed, but is not fast enough to beat pro tackles as a speed rusher around the corner. Hence, he is better off lining up inside. Overton could stand to refine his pass-rushing moves and add more moves to attack pro blockers.

In run defense, Overton is impressive. He is strong at the point of attack and shows the ability to hold his ground against downhill runs coming straight at him. Overton is strong to shed blocks and is capable of flowing down the line to get in on tackles. Overton has good vision and discipline to lock down the backside on misdirection runs. Overton is physical at the point of attack and has a nasty demeanor.

Overton is quick, strong, and athletic. He has a well-rounded skill set, but does not have elite speed or athleticism. Overall, his skill set could be that of a first- or second-round pick.

2026 NFL Draft Expectations:

Entering the 2025 season, Overton looks like he has top-60 potential for the 2026 NFL Draft.
