Prospect Summary:
There is no doubt that Uiagalelei has a very good skill set and NFL ability. He has good height, length, and strength to be a hand-in-the-ground defensive end and a standup outside linebacker. On top of his size and strength, Uiagalelei is extremely explosive. He fires off the ball with an excellent first step and then adds to it with acceleration upfield. Uiagalelei is fast around the corner, and his explosion translates to serious speed to power. With his natural talent, Uiagalelei
As a pass rusher, Uiagalelei is a dangerous quarterback hunter with serious speed around the edge. Uiagalelei has acceleration to work upfield with active hands to fight off blockers as he works his way around the corner. With nice twitch, Uiagalelei is able to get his big frame low, and he plays with nice leverage. Uiagalelei can sink his hips to get turned to the quarterback, and stiffness is not a concern with Uiagalelei. On top of his speed rush, Uiagalelei has good vision to redirect and reacts quickly to scrambling quarterbacks. Uiagalelei is a dangerous speed rusher, with speed to power and athleticism. He has a ton of ability to get after the quarterback and just needs to develop and refine his pass-rushing moves.
In the ground game, Uiagalelei is impressive at the point of attack. He has some tremendous plays where he uses his explosion to fire upfield and knock offensive linemen backwards to blow up run plays. On top of being able to blow up runs in the backfield, Uiagalelei can hold his ground against downhill runs and shows the ability to shed blocks and flow out of his gap to make tackles. His run defense is developing, and he could be even better in a year or two.
Uiagalelei has a ton of talent, and it would not surprise this analyst if he ends up being a highly coveted prospect. He looks like a future starter and impact player in the NFL.
