Updated 5/29

  • Peyton Manning, QB, Colts. Bye: 7.
Peyton Manning is still at the top of his game and his receiving corps is better than ever. The only concern here is whether or not he’ll play the entire contest come Week 16. He and Bill Polian really screwed over thousands of fantasy owners last season. If you draft Manning, make sure you have a quality backup – preferably one who has an easy matchup in Week 16 like Joe Flacco (at Browns), Vince Young (at Chiefs), Alex Smith (at Rams), Josh Freeman (vs. Seahawks) or Chad Henne (vs. Lions).

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 4,700 passing yards. 35 passing TDs. 14 INTs. 0 rushing yards. 1 rushing TD.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Points (ESPN Scoring): 306.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Points (QB Friendly): 423.

  • Joseph Addai, RB, Colts. Bye: 7.
Joseph Addai is once again projected to be the main runner in Indianapolis. Last year, Addai rushed for 828 yards, and caught 51 balls for 336 receiving yards. More importantly, he scored 13 touchdowns in the process – a figure that should remain steady based on how highly productive the Colts’ offense is.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 775 rushing yards. 44 catches. 310 receiving yards. 12 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 180.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 224.

  • Donald Brown, RB, Colts. Bye: 7.
Wasn’t Joseph Addai supposed to be the injury-prone player? That was one frustrating thing that happened last year – the wrong running back got hurt. Brown looked like he was picking up more touches each week before suffering an injury in the St. Louis game. Brown came back later in the season, but was never a big part of the offense (he had five touches in the Super Bowl).

Brown will likely become a larger part of the offense in his sophomore campaign, so he’s definitely worth owning. And who knows, maybe Addai will live up to his fragile reputation.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 560 rushing yards. 25 catches. 240 receiving yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 116.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 141.

  • Reggie Wayne, WR, Colts. Bye: 7.
Four reasons why I don’t like Reggie Wayne this year:

    1. Age – We’ve seen receivers play well into their mid-30s, but we’ve also seen others like Torry Holt decline at 32. Wayne turns 32 in November. The pinnacle of Wayne’s career is definitely over.

    2. Targets – When has Peyton Manning ever had this many weapons to work with? Wayne, Pierre Garcon, Dallas Clark, Anthony Gonzalez and maybe even Austin Collie will all garner a large amount of targets, meaning Wayne won’t get as many passes thrown his way.

    3. Decline in Production – Whether it was age or a decrease in targets, Wayne really struggled at the end of the 2009 season. While he had 100 receptions, 1,264 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2009, most of that came early in the year. Starting in Week 12, here were his stat lines:

at Texans: 3 catches, 19 yards. 1 TD.
vs. Titans: 4 catches, 48 yards. 0 TDs.
vs. Broncos: 4 catches, 43 yards. 0 TDs.
at Jaguars: 5 catches, 132 yards. 1 TD.
    vs. Jets (2 1/2 quarters): 3 catches, 33 yards. 0 TDs.
vs. Ravens (playoffs): 8 catches, 63 yards. 1 TD.
vs. Jets (playoffs): 3 catches, 55 yards. 0 TDs.
vs. Saints (Super Bowl): 5 catches, 46 yards. 0 TDs.

Taking out the two Jets games because he was going up against Darrelle Revis, if we extend Wayne’s numbers over a 16-game slate, we get: 77 catches, 936 yards and eight touchdowns.

    4. Knee Issues – Wayne was a non-factor in the Super Bowl, and there was some speculation that his knee wasn’t 100 percent. If a knee injury was the reason he wasn’t very good at the conclusion of the 2009 season, that’s definitely not good news. A soon-to-be 32-year-old receiver with potential knee problems? I’ll pass.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 81 catches. 1,040 yards. 8 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 152.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 233.

  • Pierre Garcon, WR, Colts. Bye: 7.
I’ve made it known that I’m not a fan of Reggie Wayne this season. I’d actually almost rather have Pierre Garcon on my fantasy roster. He’s younger and doesn’t have a potential knee issue.

Garcon caught 47 passes for 765 yards and four touchdowns in 2009, but didn’t really come on until Week 8, as he played erratically before then. In Garcon’s final nine full games of the year, including his impressive playoff run, he caught 50 balls for 723 yards and four touchdowns. Transpose that over a full 16-game slate, and Garcon’s numbers become: 89 catches, 1,285 yards and seven touchdowns. Not bad.

I won’t project Garcon to match those numbers, but I do think he has a very good chance of eclipsing the 1,000-yard barrier in his second season as a starter.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 65 catches. 1,025 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 138.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 203.

  • Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Colts. Bye: 7.
Austin Collie filled in really well as Indianapolis’ slot receiver last year, but he’ll likely be replaced by Anthony Gonzalez. Gonzalez is simply the better talent. He’s a great flex player in PPR formats.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 66 catches. 760 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 114.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 180.

  • Austin Collie, WR, Colts. Bye: 7.
Definitely worth picking up if Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon or Anthony Gonzalez get hurt.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 17 catches. 200 yards. 1 total TD.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 26.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 43.

  • Dallas Clark, TE, Colts. Bye: 7.
Dallas Clark went berserk last year, catching 100 passes for 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns. I don’t think he’ll match his reception and yardage totals in 2010, but double-digit touchdowns is always possible as long as Peyton Manning is healthy.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 88 catches. 975 yards. 10 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 157.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 245.

  • Adam Vinatieri, K, Colts. Bye: 7.
It’s hard to believe, but Adam Vinatieri’s job is on the line. Undrafted rookie Brett Swenson is expected to really push Vinatieri this season. Keep that in mind if you select Vinatieri before the final round of your fantasy draft.

    Projected 2009 Fantasy Stats: 22-27 FG (0-1 from 50+; 6-9 from 40-49). 52 XP.
    Projected 2009 Fantasy Points: 123.

  • Indianapolis Colts. Bye: 7.
The Colts have a tendency to generate multiple defensive touchdowns each year because opposing quarterbacks often have to force the issue after their team falls behind. Indianapolis could generate around 40 sacks this season if rookie Jerry Hughes lives up to the hype and contributes as a third-down pass-rusher to complement Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis.
