2010 Fantasy Football Rankings - Cincinnati Bengals 2010 Fantasy Football Rankings – Cincinnati Bengals:

Updated 6/2

  • Carson Palmer, QB, Bengals. Bye: 6.
It’s now or never for Carson Palmer. With Antonio Bryant, Jermaine Gresham and Jordan Shipley joining Chad Ochocinco, there are no more excuses. Palmer didn’t appear 100 percent last year, but he didn’t have anyone to work with besides No. 85. If Palmer can bounce back physically – and that’s a huge IF – he can be a low-end QB1.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 3,525 passing yards. 23 passing TDs. 12 INTs. 75 rushing yards. 1 rushing TD.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Points (ESPN Scoring): 222.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Points (QB Friendly): 303.

  • Cedric Benson, RB, Bengals. Bye: 6.
One of my favorite sleepers last year, Cedric Benson exceeded my expectations, and rushed for 1,251 yards and six touchdowns in only 13 games.

I like Benson again this season on only one condition – that he doesn’t get his contract extended. Benson is a lazy bum and plays only for contracts and signing bonuses. If Cincinnati gives him a new deal, forget about it; don’t even draft him. But as long as Benson is playing for money, he’s a legitimate RB1.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 1,300 rushing yards. 20 catches. 140 receiving yards. 8 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 192.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 212.

  • Bernard Scott, RB, Bengals. Bye: 6.
The handcuff for Cedric Benson if you’re into that sort of thing. Scott rushed for 119 yards on 21 carries at Oakland and 87 yards on 18 attempts against the Browns in his two starts last year.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 440 rushing yards. 10 catches. 90 receiving yards. 1 total TD.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 59.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 69.

  • Chad Ochocinco, WR, Bengals. Bye: 6.
Reasons not to like Chad Ochocinco this year:

    1. He just turned 32.

    2. Carson Palmer is clearly not the same quarterback he was prior to all of his injuries.

    3. Antonio Bryant, Matt Jones, Jordan Shipley and Jermaine Gresham. Ochocinco’s targets will decrease with these four players on the roster (though he’ll draw more single coverage). I’m more concerned that Palmer will look for Gresham instead of Ochocinco in the end zone. It’s reasonable to expect Ochocinco’s touchdown total of nine to drop in 2010.

    4. Participating in Eating Cereal With the Stars and other stupid $10 reality TV shows may have deterred Ochocinco from working out as much as he’d like to this offseason. Is he in 100-percent shape? I have my doubts.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 71 catches. 990 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 141.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 212.

  • Antonio Bryant, WR, Bengals. Bye: 6.
Antonio Bryant is two years removed from 83 receptions, 1,248 yards and six touchdowns. Eager fantasy players looking for Bryant to duplicate those stats will likely be disappointed; Bryant is a lazy bum who has never tried hard after signing a contract. Carson Palmer’s health is also in doubt.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 55 catches. 775 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 101.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 156.

  • Jordan Shipley, WR, Bengals. Bye: 6.
Jordan Shipley and Andre Caldwell will battle for the slot receiver job this year. I believe Shipley will win the competition because Caldwell isn’t very good. If Shipley becomes the full-time slot receiver, he’ll be a decent backup in deeper PPR leagues.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 50 catches. 440 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 56.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 106.

  • Jermaine Gresham, TE, Bengals. Bye: 6.
Jermaine Gresham is an insanely talented tight end who should become an immediate end-zone threat for the Bengals. Cincinnati’s current coaching staff has no history of turning tight ends into fantasy stars, but the front office didn’t select Gresham at No. 21 overall so he could just block and stand on the sidelines.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 48 catches. 575 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 99.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 147.

  • Cincinnati Bengals. Bye: 6.
The Bengals always produce a large number of turnovers under Marvin Lewis. The key will be Antwan Odom’s health. If Odom can completely recover the Achillies’ tendon tear he suffered in October, Cincinnati might be able to generate 40 sacks in 2010.
