2010 Fantasy Football Rankings - Green Bay Packers 2010 Fantasy Football Rankings – Green Bay Packers:

Updated 6/1

  • Aaron Rodgers, QB, Packers. Bye: 10.
Aaron Rodgers finished the 2009 season as the top fantasy signal-caller, and I think he’ll retain that title in 2010.

Rodgers threw for 4,434 yards, 30 touchdowns and seven interceptions last year despite having abysmal play from his offensive line for half the season. Following a loss to the Buccaneers on Nov. 8, Rodgers eclipsed the 300-yard and three-touchdown barriers four times in nine games. In that nine-game span, he threw just three interceptions.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 4,600 passing yards. 33 passing TDs. 9 INTs. 275 rushing yards. 2 rushing TDs.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Points (ESPN Scoring): 337.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Points (QB Friendly): 449.

  • Ryan Grant, RB, Packers. Bye: 10.
Anyone who had Ryan Grant on their fantasy roster last year knows that he was very consistent. They also know that he really caught fire at the end of the season. Grant thrived when he had both Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher in the lineup. Consider the following numbers:

Grant WITHOUT Clifton or Tauscher (8 games): 147 carries, 604 yards (4.1 YPC). 3 TDs.
Grant WITH Clifton and Tauscher (8 games): 135 carries, 649 yards (4.8 YPC). 7 TDs.

Clifton and Tauscher aren’t strong run blockers, but their presence improved the offense as a whole and gave Grant more opportunities. A strong finish in 2009 should lead to a promising 2010 – especially with Bryan Bulaga on the roster.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 1,300 rushing yards. 16 catches. 110 receiving yards. 11 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 207.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 223.

  • James Starks, RB, Packers. Bye: 10.
I really liked James Starks as a prospect coming out of Buffalo. He’s great at catching the ball out of the backfield and should take over for Brandon Jackson as Green Bay’s third-down back immediately. In two years, Starks could be the starter; Ryan Grant’s contract expires after the 2011 season, and he’ll be 29 when that happens. For now, Starks is a pretty good handcuff.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 390 rushing yards. 33 catches. 300 receiving yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 87.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 120.

  • Greg Jennings, WR, Packers. Bye: 10.
Greg Jennings had a disappointing 2009 campaign, as he battled inconsistency. He compiled 68 receptions, 1,113 yards and four touchdowns – far worse numbers than his 2008 stats (80, 1,292, 9).

Two encouraging things: First, Jennings finished the year really strong. In his final three full games of the 2009 season, Jennings totaled 17 receptions, 359 yards and two touchdowns. And second, with Donald Driver recently turning 35, it’s logical to assume that Aaron Rodgers will rely more on Jennings if Driver’s skills begin to seriously erode – which could very well happen this year.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 76 catches. 1,250 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 167.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 243.

  • Donald Driver, WR, Packers. Bye: 10.
Donald Driver amazingly has put together six consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns. A seventh will be very difficult considering that he just turned 35, but it’s certainly not out of the question. Still, I’d be cautious about drafting such an old player.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 66 catches. 925 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 128.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 194.

  • James Jones, WR, Packers. Bye: 10.
James Jones caught five touchdowns last year, but that’s probably a fluke, considering that he had just three career scores going into the season. Jones notched 32 receptions for 440 yards in 2009, and shouldn’t be anything more than a fantasy football afterthought until Donald Driver retires.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 35 catches. 500 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 68.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 103.

  • Jermichael Finley, TE, Packers. Bye: 10.
All aboard the Jermichael Finley bandwagon! I had Jermichael Finley as a sleeper last year, and he didn’t disappoint. This season, I’ll be pretty surprised if he doesn’t finish as a top-five fantasy tight end. Finley is incredibly talented and will be a full-time starter in 2010.

Finley’s 2009 stats (55 catches, 676 yards, 5 TDs) don’t tell the whole story. He started off slow and missed three weeks in the middle of the season. During his final eight games last year, Finley caught 44 balls for 575 yards and four touchdowns. Multiply that by two for a full 16-game slate, and you get 88 receptions, 1,150 yards and eight scores.

With Tony Gonzalez turning 34, and Vernon Davis’ bloated numbers bound to dip just a bit, Finley is my No. 3 fantasy tight end.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 78 catches. 1,025 yards. 8 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 150.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 228.

  • Mason Crosby, K, Packers. Bye: 10.
Mason Crosby has never hit 80 percent of his field goals in any season, which is a shame because he plays in such a great offense. Despite all of his misses, however, he’s still a great fantasy kicker.

    Projected 2009 Fantasy Stats: 28-36 FG (3-6 from 50+; 6-9 from 40-49). 46 XP.
    Projected 2009 Fantasy Points: 140.

  • Green Bay Packers. Bye: 10.
Clay Matthews and Brad Jones, now both in their second year, will terrorize quarterbacks in the pocket even more so than they did in 2009. Charles Woodson and Nick Collins, who combined for 15 picks last season, will once again secure tons of turnovers. Green Bay’s fantasy defense will continue to produce lots of points.
