2010 Fantasy Football Rankings: Top 71-80

There will be many more 2010 Fantasy Football Rankings and features in the late spring and summer, including tons of 2010 Fantasy Football Mock Drafts, Player Rankings, Sleepers and Busts. I’ll also have an extensive 2010 NFL Fantasy Football Preseason Stock Report.

2010 Fantasy Football Rankings – Top 71-80 (May 21):

  1. Santana Moss, WR, Redskins
Santana Moss’ quarterbacks over his career: Vinny Testaverde, Chad Pennington, Patrick Ramsey, an aging Mark Brunell, Jason Campbell and Todd Collins. Think Donovan McNabb’s a bit better than those six?

Moss generated 902 yards and three touchdowns last year. That obviously wasn’t his fault; the offensive line gave Campbell no time to locate Moss downfield. And when Campbell had ample time in the pocket, he just didn’t have the talent to maximize Moss’ potential.

McNabb changes everything. Assuming he stays healthy, Moss should have one of the best seasons of his career. Moss is only 31, so it’s not like he’s over the hill quite yet.

  2. Donovan McNabb, QB, Redskins
Donovan McNabb goes from DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant as his receivers to Santana Moss, Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly. Blah. Then again, McNabb did throw for 3,365 yards and 21 touchdowns in a season when his wideouts were Charles Johnson, Torrance Small and Na Brown.

The good news is that McNabb has two very talented tight ends at his disposal (Chris Cooley, Fred Davis). Mike Shanahan is an offensive genius and will get the most out of McNabb. And don’t forget that McNabb has a huge chip on his shoulder in the wake of being discarded by the Eagles.

  3. Donald Driver, WR, Packers
Donald Driver amazingly has put together six consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns. A seventh will be very difficult considering that he just turned 35, but it’s certainly not out of the question. Still, I’d be cautious about drafting such an old player.

  4. Brett Favre, QB, Vikings
No one should be surprised if Brett Favre finishes as a top-five fantasy quarterback this year; he compiled 4,202 yards, 33 yards and seven interceptions last season when many people, including myself, doubted him. Having said that, there is a considerable amount of risk in making Favre your QB1. First of all, he may not even return to the NFL. I believe he will, but there’s always a possibility that he’ll call it quits. Also, Favre turns 41 in October and has an injured ankle that requires surgery.

The bottom line is that I feel as though Favre’s risks outweigh his rewards, especially considering that there are 13 legitimate QB1s in fantasy this season.

  5. Matt Ryan, QB, Falcons
Matt Ryan is the No. 13 quarterback in my 2010 Fantasy Football Rankings, but I definitely would be fine with him as my starter. Ryan missed four games last year with a turf toe, but totaled 2,916 yards, 22 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in the remaining 12 contests. Transpose those numbers over a 16-game slate, and you get 3,888 yards, 29 touchdowns and 19 picks – really good QB1 numbers.

  6. Mike Wallace, WR, Steelers
Mike Wallace caught 39 passes for 756 yards and six touchdowns in 2009. Not bad for a rookie No. 3 receiver. With Santonio Holmes gone, Wallace will be the No. 2 guy and will presumably see his stats soar – that is, after Ben Roethlisberger comes back from his suspension. Don’t expect much from Wallace or Hines Ward until then.

  7. Reggie Bush, RB, Saints
The original C.J. Spiller, Reggie Bush gets the nod over the rookie because New Orleans’ offense will put him in a better position to score touchdowns. If Bush can stay healthy – and that’s a huge IF – he could compile around 1,300 total yards and eight touchdowns. It’s more likely, however, that he’ll miss 3-4 games and accumulate 75 percent of those projected stats.

  8. C.J. Spiller, RB, Bills
According to John Clayton, C.J. Spiller will receive about 12 carries per game. Ah, now I see why the Bills spent the No. 9 overall pick on him. But all Buffalo bashing aside, Spiller is an intriguing PPR fantasy player because he figures to catch at least 60 balls this season. He won’t see the end zone much, but he’ll rack up the receptions and total yardage.

  9. Robert Meachem, WR, Saints
In just his second season in action, Robert Meachem caught 43 passes for 710 yards and nine touchdowns, serving as a great deep-ball threat for Drew Brees. Meachem’s problem is consistency; Brees has so many targets that Meachem could go for a few games without doing something big, and then suddenly post an eight-catch, 140-yard performance. Still, he’s growing and maturing as a player, so there’s no reason to believe that he’ll regress in 2010.

  10. Jason Witten, TE, Cowboys
The epitome of consistency, Jason Witten caught at least four passes in each of Dallas’ 18 games last year. He led the team in receptions (94) and finished only behind Miles Austin-Jones in receiving yardage (1,030). However, there was a major problem: Witten scored only two touchdowns. In fact, Witten has never scored more than seven times in any season. The reason for this is that offensive coordinator Jason Garrett turns Witten into a blocker when the Cowboys reach the red zone.

Witten’s great for PPR leagues, but in more traditional formats, expect long stretches of touchdown-less games.
