2010 Fantasy Football Rankings - St. Louis Rams 2010 Fantasy Football Rankings – St. Louis Rams:

Updated 5/23

  • Sam Bradford, QB, Rams. Bye: 9.
Coming out of a spread offense, Sam Bradford is not ready to play in the NFL right away. Bradford is not like Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford or Mark Sanchez; those were all pro-style quarterbacks. With mediocre/young talent around him in St. Louis and barely any familiarity with playing under center, Bradford will likely struggle as a rookie – if he even plays.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 2,600 passing yards. 12 passing TDs. 16 INTs. 20 rushing yards. 0 rushing TDs.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Points (ESPN Scoring): 122.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Points (QB Friendly): 172.

  • Steven Jackson, RB, Rams. Bye: 9.
I had Steven Jackson ranked fifth in my 2010 Fantasy Football Rankings: Top 100 before news broke that Jackson went through back surgery this offseason. Though Steve Spagnuolo said it was “minor,” any back surgery is enough to set off a red flag for me.

I’m not saying Jackson’s going to have a crappy year. He could very well lead the league in rushing. But I’d rather not spend a high or mid first-round fantasy pick on an already injury-prone running back coming off back surgery.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 1,250 rushing yards. 44 catches. 325 receiving yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 193.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 237.

  • Donnie Avery, WR, Rams. Bye: 9.
Donnie Avery had a solid rookie year (53 catches, 674 yards, 3 TDs), but struggled in 2009. The reason for this was because Torry Holt left, forcing Avery to confront No. 1 corners for the first time in his pro career. Avery struggled to get off press coverage, consequently finishing his sophomore campaign with 47 catches, 589 yards and five scores.

Avery will once again draw each team’s opposing top corner. Even worse, he’ll have a raw rookie quarterback throwing him the ball. Avoid Avery in your fantasy drafts this summer.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 51 catches. 640 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 88.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 139.

  • Laurent Robinson, WR, Rams. Bye: 9.
Laurent Robinson was off to a very good start to his 2009 campaign, catching 11 balls for 141 yards and a touchdown in the first two games of the season. Unfortunately, he suffered a fractured fibula and a high right ankle sprain in Week 3, and was done for the year. Dating back to April, Robinson was having difficulty making cuts. He could be fine for the 2010 opener, but his problem has always been his health. Robinson’s a fine late-round flier, but don’t be too disappointed if he lands on IR by mid-October.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 45 catches. 550 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 79.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 124.

  • Brandon Gibson, WR, Rams. Bye: 9.
Brandon Gibson played somewhat well for the Rams after coming over in a mid-season trade from Philadelphia. In nine games, Gibson had 31 catches for 330 yards and a touchdown. Even if Gibson’s skills drastically improve and he can beat out Laurent Robinson to be a starting receiver, he still has to deal with the fact that he has a raw rookie quarterback throwing him the football.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 38 catches. 410 yards. 1 total TD.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 47.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 85.

  • Mardy Gilyard, WR, Rams. Bye: 9.
Mardy Gilyard is worth selecting in keeper leagues, but he probably won’t be much of a factor as a rookie. If the fact that he has a raw rookie quarterback wasn’t enough, he’ll miss a big portion of the OTAs because he won’t graduate from Cincinnati until mid-June. Shame on the NFL for having such a stupid rule.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 21 catches. 275 yards. 1 total TD.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 33.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 54.

  • Daniel Fells, TE, Rams. Bye: 9.
Rookie quarterbacks like to lean on their tight ends, but don’t expect big numbers from Daniel Fells. He’s just not that good.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 32 catches. 400 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 52.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 84.

  • Josh Brown, K, Rams. Bye: 9.
St. Louis’ offense was so stale last year that Josh Brown attempted only 24 field goals and 16 extra points. Things won’t be much better in 2010. However, it’s worth noting that Brown was 6-of-7 from 50-plus last season.

    Projected 2009 Fantasy Stats: 21-25 FG (5-6 from 50+; 6-8 from 40-49). 20 XP.
    Projected 2009 Fantasy Points: 98.

  • St. Louis Rams. Bye: 9.
A fantasy defense that had 25 sacks and eight interceptions is not something you want to get involved with.
