2010 Fantasy Football Rankings - Jacksonville Jaguars 2010 Fantasy Football Rankings – Jacksonville Jaguars:

Updated 5/30

  • David Garrard, QB, Jaguars. Bye: 9.
If anything, David Garrard’s consistent. He plays behind a very questionable offensive line and has no proven receiver to throw to aside from Mike Sims-Walker (though I do like Mike Thomas), but that hasn’t stopped Garrard from compiling about 3,600 yards and 15 touchdowns the past two seasons.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 3,600 passing yards. 15 passing TDs. 11 INTs. 275 rushing yards. 2 rushing TDs.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Points (ESPN Scoring): 221.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Points (QB Friendly): 287.

  • Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jaguars. Bye: 9.
Maurice Jones-Drew is probably the safest pick of the top three (Adrian Peterson, Chris Johnson). He’s going to carry the ball 300 times, rush for about 1,300 yards and catch 50-60 balls.

If someone wants to pick Jones-Drew over Adrian Peterson or Chris Johnson, I can’t argue that. Before the 2009 season, Jones-Drew had never garnered more than 200 carries, so his legs are fresh. Also, he had two rookies on his offensive line last year (tackles Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton), so if they improve, Jones-Drew will have greater running lanes at his disposal.

The only downside to picking Jones-Drew is that you’ll have to deal with Jack Del Rio’s ineptness. Del Rio is the laziest head coach in the NFL and often devises half-baked game plans where he doesn’t get Jones-Drew the ball enough. I’ve complained about this ad nauseum last season, and I didn’t even have Jones-Drew on any of my six fantasy rosters. Unless Del Rio starts trying hard, which I find unlikely, there will be weeks where you’ll be pulling your hair out because Jones-Drew received only 12-18 carries.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 1,380 rushing yards. 50 catches. 400 receiving yards. 15 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 268.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 318.

  • Mike Sims-Walker, WR, Jaguars. Bye: 9.
Mike Sims-Walker had 63 catches for 869 yards and seven touchdowns last year, but he was either feast or famine. On five occasions, he caught at least six passes. On six others, he was limited to two receptions or fewer. It’s worth noting that he suffered through a calf injury in the second half of the year, which was when most of his poor performances took place.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 73 catches. 1,000 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 142.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 215.

  • Mike Thomas, WR, Jaguars. Bye: 9.
With Torry Holt gone, Mike Thomas is Jacksonville’s new No. 2 receiver. As a rookie last year, Thomas caught 48 balls for 453 yards and a touchdown, including 13 receptions for 132 yards during the final two weeks of the regular season. He’s worth a late-round flier.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 62 catches. 775 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 101.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 163.

  • Jarett Dillard, WR, Jaguars. Bye: 9.
Another second-year Jacksonville receiver, Jarett Dillard had only six receptions for 106 yards in 2009. He’ll probably be in the slot this season.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 36 catches. 350 yards. 1 total TD.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 41.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 77.

  • Zach Miller, TE, Jaguars. Bye: 9.
Let me get this straight: There are two Adrian Peterson running backs, two Steve Smith receivers, and now two Zach Miller tight ends? Why are they making my life so difficult?

Marcedes Lewis will be the projected starting Jaguars tight end by most publications. Lewis could definitely win the job, but if he does, he offers no upside. Miller does. Miller is highly athletic, and in the final game of the 2009 season, he caught eight balls for 69 yards and two scores.

I wouldn’t draft Miller because he might not even be the starter. But I’ll definitely keep an eye on him. If he manages to pass Lewis on the depth chart, make sure to pick him up if you need a tight end.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 40 catches. 475 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 59.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 99.

  • Marcedes Lewis, TE, Jaguars. Bye: 9.
Marcedes Lewis has great physical talent, but has never been able to live up to it. Call it a hunch, but I think this is the year he finally loses his job.

Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 25 catches. 330 yards. 0 total TDs.
    Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 33.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 58.

  • Josh Scobee, K, Jaguars. Bye: 9.
Josh Scobee was just 18-of-28 last year, but that’s because he missed five from beyond 50-plus, going 4-of-9 from that distance. Jacksonville’s offense is pretty mediocre, so unless you’re in a really deep league, there’s no use in drafting Scobee.

    Projected 2009 Fantasy Stats: 21-27 FG (4-6 from 50+; 4-7 from 40-49). 32 XP.
    Projected 2009 Fantasy Points: 106.

  • Jacksonville Jaguars. Bye: 9.
The Jaguars can’t get to the quarterback at all and consequently can’t force many turnovers. Stay away.
