ANALYSIS: I’d like to preface this by saying that I did this mock draft on ESPN.com. I initially planned to do it on a smaller site that has received tons of positive recommendations on the forum.
Things seemed to go well at first. I had the third pick, and I decided on Maurice Jones-Drew.
It was the middle of the second round when four teams seemed to pick instantly. It was suddenly my turn again.
I crossed off the four players who just went off the board. 48 seconds left.
Knowshon Moreno was my BPA, but I knew I could get him in Round 3. So, I decided on whom I would take. Tom Brady or Marques Colston? I have Colston higher on my top 150 board, so I decided on him…
22 seconds left? WTF?
I looked for Colston on the list. Couldn’t find him. 14 seconds left.
So, I alphabetized. Finally found him. Phew. 10 seconds left.
I tried dragging his name over, or whatever they told me to do, and it wouldn’t work. 5 seconds left.
I scrolled down again… 3 seconds left.
I panicked… 2 seconds left.
I clicked my mouse around Colston’s name a couple of times. 1 second left.
Time’s up.

After talking to myself for five minutes in front of my dog, who stared back quizzically at me, I decided to go back to trusty ESPN.
At any rate, pretty ordinary Round 1… except… DeAngelo Williams No. 4!? Buhahaha! Team Koller is officially the Josh McDaniels-led Denver Broncos of this mock draft.

MY PICK: I’ve decided that I hate drafting in the top three. By the time I was up again, Knowshon Moreno was the top player on my 2009 Fantasy Football Cheat Sheet.
Knowing I could get Moreno in Round 3, I took Marques Colston. If I were drafting atop Round 2, I could have landed Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson or maybe Randy Moss, and still maintained the opportunity to take Moreno in the third round.
BEST PICK: Clinton Portis and Brian Westbrook in the middle of Round 2? Pretty ridiculous.
WORST PICK: Josh McDaniels, I mean Team Koller, went with Thomas Jones. Nice. He’s only 24th in my 2009 Fantasy Football Running Back Rankings.

MY PICK: For those who read this site last year, Knowshon Moreno is this year’s Calvin Johnson. Someone laughed at me last summer when I took Johnson over Roy Williams in one of my leagues, and someone like Team Koller will once again scoff when I select Moreno over “great” running backs like Thomas Jones, Marshawn Lynch and Ronnie Brown. I plan on having the last laugh.
BEST PICK: Every dog has its day, and Round 3 was definitely Team Koller’s. I was shocked when he took Roddy White because that was actually a decent selection. Almost as good as mine.
WORST PICK: When you take a player between Rounds 3 and 6, and other fantasy owners have to flip through their cheat sheets just to find the guy to cross him off, one of two things happened: You either know what you’re doing, and you’re taking an ultra fantasy sleeper (Calvin Johnson last year; Knowshon Moreno this year), or you’ve just made the crappiest pick in the draft.
Team Beard just made the crappiest pick in this mock. Willie Parker is a whopping 42nd in my 2009 Fantasy Football Running Back Rankings.

ANALYSIS: Team Koller left. Damn it. I was holding out hope that he would trade next year’s No. 1 pick to move up three spots in order to select Richard Quinn. Oh wait, that’s someone else.
MY PICK: I was hoping Pierre Thomas or Braylon Edwards would fall to me here. Unfortunately, Teams Race and Vitale debacled my dreams, so I had to “settle” for the fourth-ranked player in my 2009 Fantasy Football Quarterback Rankings.
BEST PICK: Race and Vitale – you shall rue the day you took my players.
WORST PICK: As Chris Berman would say, “What the fleck was Team Fleck thinking!?” Seriously, LenDale White? He’s rated a bit higher than Willie Parker in non-pancake scoring leagues.

MY PICK: It was between Antonio Bryant and Chad Ochocinco, but I had the former ranked a bit higher in my 2009 Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Rankings. I’m very happy with Bryant as my WR2.
BEST PICK: Nothing that really stood out at me, so I’ll praise Team Bounds for taking the other guy I considered.
WORST PICK: Old Man Hines and No Touchdown Jackson in Round 5? Seriously?
A review of Team Beard’s roster: Tom Brady (reach in Round 1), Randy Moss (New England homer much?), Willie Parker (discussed already), Larry Johnson (fail), DeSean Jackson… Does this guy enjoy taking the worst players ever? If Team Koller is Josh McDaniels, Team Beard is easily Matt Millen.

MY PICK: I considered Chris Wells back in Round 5, but that’s because I have him a lot higher than most publications.
I don’t get why people rank rookie running backs so low. Knowshon Moreno has the offensive line and talent to lead the league in total yards this year, while Wells could be in line for double-digit touchdowns.
But I’m not complaining – I came away with Matt Forte and Chris Johnson in a few of my leagues last year.
BEST PICK: Team Beard bounces back! Maybe he thought that he should stop taking the worst players ever and concentrate on good ones instead.
WORST PICK: What the fleck is Team Fleck thinking!? I sort of like Ben Roethlisberger this year, but not in Round 6.

WORST PICK: Nothing that really stands out at me as a possible best pick, but you can’t like Team HUTT’s strategy of taking a defense in Round 7. I have a dream that one day, all fantasy players won’t reach for defenses and will wait to take their kickers until the final two rounds. That day won’t be this year.

ANALYSIS: More defenses, but I don’t mind them at the bottom of Round 8. Team Fleck reached for the Albert Haynesworth-less Titans, but taking New York and Baltimore was fine.
MY PICK: Matt Schaub is my BPA, and even though I have a quarterback already, I couldn’t resist. This pretty much guarantees that I won’t have any problems at the position the entire year… You know, if this were a real league.
WORST PICK: You have to love it that Willis McGahee and Le’Ron McClain were chosen before Ray Rice. Rice will get the majority of the carries this year. McClain will play fullback. McGahee didn’t get much work at the end of the 2008 season, and could be cut. It just surprises me that Team Beard wasn’t involved with one of those two selections.
ROUND 9:

ANALYSIS: Palmer and Race have joined Koller as people who left the mock draft early. Seriously, why even join a mock draft if you’re not going to stay until the end? There’s a reason this thing runs 16 rounds.
Worse yet, neither Palmer nor Race clicked the “Auto Pick” button, so we all had to wait three minutes. Palmer and Race, you have been forever immortalized on WalterFootball.com as jerks.
MY PICK: Close call between Ray Rice and Derrick Mason. I chose Mason because I already had three running backs and I needed a reliable backup wideout. Three minutes later, I would regret this decision, and if I had to do it over, I would have taken Rice. Damn 90-second ticker.
WORST PICK: I found it hilarious that Team Koller chose Matt Cassel. I know this was an auto-pick selection, but it’s exactly what Josh McDaniels would have done. Those expecting Cassel to match his 2008 numbers will be disappointed.

MY PICK: I needed a tight end, and Zach Miller was the best one available. Miller is eighth in my 2009 Fantasy Football Tight End Rankings, so this just proves that it’s better to wait on a tight end if you can’t land the top three guys.
WORST PICK: Team Beard has Willie Parker, Larry Johnson and now Tampa Bay’s defense on his roster. I’m now convinced that he’s from 2006 and has time traveled to the future to become the world’s worst fantasy football player ever.

In all seriousness, I have to give Team Beard credit. Fred Jackson was a solid pick. I considered him over Jerious Norwood a round earlier.
WORST PICK: Way too easy. Team Race, you suck. Team HUTT, you suck. Team Koller, you suck. Team Holder, you suck.

WORST PICK: I’m actually shocked that Team Beard wasn’t the first to take a kicker. But Beard made up for it by selecting one who just turned 39.

WORST PICK: Kickers in Round 14 – bad, but not terrible. Chad Pennington in any round? Worst pick ever.

ANALYSIS: Interesting final pick. Depending on where he lands, Edgerrin James might have some upside.
MY PICK: My kicker is Garrett Hartley. The way I see it is, he’ll have lots of scoring opportunities in New Orleans’ offense. And if he sucks, I’ll just pick up another kicker. That’s exactly why you should wait until the final round to take your kicker.
So, bravo to me, Fleck, Vitale, Champion and Riggall. Matthew Berry would consider us all his friends. And unlike leaving a mock draft in the fourth round, that’s something to be proud of.
