This is the 2024 NFL Combine Stock Report for the quarterbacks. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.
Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU
It’s commonplace to see quarterbacks eschew working out at the combine. It’s quite odd, however, to see a quarterback skip the measurements portion of the combine. This is actually the first time I’ve ever seen anything like this, as Jayden Daniels simply refused to be measured. This almost certainly won’t knock him out of the top three, but teams have to wonder what he’s hiding.
Devin Leary, QB, Kentucky
Devin Leary was a surprise performer at the combine, as he was one of the most impressive throwers during the on-field drills. Leary’s throwing velocity also measured at 60 mph, which was one mph shy of J.J. McCarthy’s figure.
Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina
Drake Maye didn’t participate in the combine, but he was measured. His hand size is a concern, as his hands were measured at 9 1/8 inches. Anything smaller than 9 1/2 inches is a concern, especially if he’s going to play in cold-weather environments like New England.
Michael Penix Jr., QB, Washington
Michael Penix Jr. didn’t run or jump, but he threw the ball better than any other quarterback at the combine. Granted, the top three quarterbacks didn’t participate, but Penix still helped himself.
Caleb Williams, QB, USC
Caleb Williams was the first player I’ve ever seen decline a medical at the combine. I don’t think this will knock him out of the No. 1 spot in the 2024 NFL Draft, but there’s a very small chance that it does if it the Bears cannot examine him at all and are terrified by what Williams might be hiding. It could be nothing, but why did Williams decline the medical?
