This is the 2023 NFL Combine Stock Report for the defensive backs. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

Deonte Banks was one of the top testers during Friday’s portion of the combine. He ran a 4.35, which was very impressive, considering his 6-0, 197-pound frame. He also leapt 42 inches in the vertical and 11-4 in the broad jump.

Like his teammate, Deonte Banks, Jakorian Bennett, showed off his explosive ability at the combine. He was even faster than Banks, running a 4.30, albeit with a slightly smaller frame (5-11, 188). He also notched 40.5 inches in the vertical and 11-1 in the broad jump.

Julius Brents told the media that he met with every team at the combine. Those teams weren’t disappointed with his 40. A 4.53 time doesn’t seem great, but Brents is 6-3, 198, so that’s pretty fast for his size. More importantly, Brents looked tremendous in the on-field drills.

Ji’Ayir Brown was one of the worst-testing safeties at the combine. He ran a 4.65, which is slow for his 5-11, 203-pound frame. He also posted miserable jumping numbers, notching 32.5 inches in the vertical and 9-11 in the broad jump.

Sydney Brown was the better of the Brown-named Big Ten safeties at the combine. Continuing his strong pre-draft season, Brown ran a 4.47 at 5-10, 211 pounds. He also notched 40.5 inches in the vertical and 10-10 in the broad jump.

Emmanuel Forbes displayed a very unusual body type at the combine, weighing in at only 166 pounds despite measuring 6-1. Forbes made up for his slender build with a very fast 4.35 40 time. He also reached 37.5 inches in the vertical and 10-4 in the broad jump.

Christian Gonzalez may have cemented his place as the top cornerback in this draft class. Already possessing great collegiate tape, Gonzalez blazed a 4.38 40 despite measuring in at 6-1, 197. He also recorded explosive jumping numbers, with a 41.5-inch vertical and 11-1 broad figure.

There could be a white cornerback in the NFL for the first time in decades, as Riley Moss parlayed his solid Senior Bowl practices into a great combine performance. He ran 4.45 despite measuring in at 6-1, 193. He also tallied a 39-inch vertical and 10-7 broad jump.

Clark Phillips will be a slot-only cornerback in the NFL. He ran a slow 4.51 40 for his size (5-9, 184). He also had an underwhelming 33-inch vertical.

Darius Rush had a great day overall during Friday’s combine session. He ran a 4.36 40, which was impressive for his size (6-2, 198). He then followed that up by looking terrific in the drills.

Cam Smith had a great Friday performance, running a 4.43 40 at 6-1, 180. He also looked good in the drills. So, why the down arrow? Charlie Campbell reported that teams have character concerns with Smith. He may fall in the draft for that reason.

It’s unusual for a Georgia player to run poorly, but Christopher Smith did so, recording a 4.62 40 at just 5-11, 192. However, Smith was superb in the on-field drills, so he may have helped himself despite the poor testing numbers.

Jason Taylor had a great Friday portion during the combine. He began by notching a 43-inch vertical and a 10-9 broad jump. He then ran a 4.50 40, which was solid at his size (6-0, 204). Taylor followed that up by showing extremely well in the on-field drills.

D.J. Turner was the fastest cornerback at the combine, so he must be mentioned. He was the only player through two days to break 4.30, as he was able to tally a 4.26. He also soared 38.5 inches in the vertical and 11-1 in the broad jump.
