2013 Fantasy Football Rankings - Tight Ends (Sept. 2):
Top 10 | 11-20 | 21-45

  1. Jordan Cameron, TE, Browns. Bye: 10.
AUG. 16 UPDATE: Jordan Cameron had a rough exhibition debut, so it was nice to see him rebound versus Detroit. He saw three targets and caught all of those passes for 42 yards and a pair of touchdowns. With Rob Chudzinski and Norv Turner coaching him up, Cameron is poised to have a break-out campaign.

New head coach Rob Chudzinski specializes in using tight ends in his offense, and both he and Norv Turner apparently love Jordan Cameron, an athletic player who is starting to put all of it together.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 62 catches. 760 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 112.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 174.

  2. Jermichael Finley, TE, Packers. Bye: 4.
AUG. 24 UPDATE: The Packers have talked up Jermichael Finley this offseason because he’s been in terrific shape. That apparently hasn’t had much of an effect on his hands, unfortunately. Finley dropped two passes against the Seahawks, including one touchdown. The other was thrown right into his chest, but he couldn’t hang on to the ball. Let someone else draft this bum.

AUG. 18 UPDATE: I hate to say this because I’ve been fooled before, but Jermichael Finley might actually be a solid producer this season. Finley saw a team-high five targets go his way, as he caught four balls for 78 yards, including a 33-yarder. He’s playing for a new contract, so he has added incentive.

Jermichael Finley has never lived up to expectations, but there are two signs to suggest that he may finally do so. First, he closed out the regular season with 18 catches for 203 yards in his final three games. Second, he’s been working hard to trim down this spring.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 67 catches. 800 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 110.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 177.

  3. Fred Davis, TE, Redskins. Bye: 5.
AUG. 25 UPDATE: Fred Davis, coming off a torn Achilles, made a big catch against the Bills for 31 yards, as corner Aaron Williams lost him in coverage. That was his only reception, but starter Rex Grossman can be blamed for that. It’s promising that Davis looks mostly healthy.

AUG. 9 UPDATE: The one Washington offensive starter of note at Tennessee was Fred Davis, who looked healthy. Davis caught a pair of passes for 14 yards and a touchdown on two drives.

Fred Davis is coming off a torn Achilles, so you should probably avoid him until the final couple of rounds.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 53 catches. 640 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 104.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 157.

  4. Dwayne Allen, TE, Colts. Bye: 8.
Coby Fleener was expected to be the better fantasy player of the two rookie tight ends on the Colts last year, but Dwayne Allen was the superior talent, catching 45 balls for 521 yards and three touchdowns. He should be a solid TE2 this season with some TE1 potential.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 60 catches. 730 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 103.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 163.

  5. Martellus Bennett, TE, Bears. Bye: 8.
AUG. 24 UPDATE: Martellus Bennett continues to struggle. Jay Cutler targeted him thrice in the dress rehearsal, but all the tight end could manage was one 16-yard reception, thanks to a pair of drops.

Martellus Bennett was pretty inconsistent with the Giants in terms of being a receiver, getting something like 70 yards and a touchdown one week and securing just a single reception the next. However, Bennett is slated to be Jay Cutler’s No. 2 option after Brandon Marshall, so he should have a bigger year.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 60 catches. 640 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 100.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 160.

  6. Brandon Myers, TE, Giants. Bye: 9.
AUG. 30 UPDATE: It was nice to see Eli Manning get into some sort of rhythm with new tight end Brandon Myers for a change. The former Raider tight end caught both of his targets and ultimately had three grabs for 42 yards in the preseason finale.

AUG. 19 UPDATE: I almost forgot Brandon Myers signed with the Giants. Through two games, he’s received only one target. Eli Manning threw to him in the red zone versus Indianapolis, but the two didn’t appear to be on the same page. This lacking chemistry is a big disappointment, as Myers projected to be a reliable intermediate target for Manning.

It was unusual to see the Giants acquire a tight end who can’t block, but they did so with Brandon Myers. Eli Manning will use Myers as a reliable intermediate target, just as Carson Palmer did. Myers caught a whopping 79 balls for 806 yards and four touchdowns last year.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 61 catches. 690 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 99.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 160.

  7. Julius Thomas, TE, Broncos. Bye: 9.
AUG. 25 UPDATE: Julius Thomas, a young, athletic tight end, tied for the team lead with seven targets against the Rams. He caught four balls, but for only 18 yards. However, the important development is that Thomas saw this much action despite Jacob Tamme returning to the lineup. Tamme saw four passes fly his way.

Julius Thomas is a very athletic tight end. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He hasn’t done much yet, but it appears as though the light is starting to come on. He saw three targets from Peyton Manning at Seattle and ultimately finished with four grabs for 70 yards. He’s a high-upside TE2 to consider near the end of your draft.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 48 catches. 640 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 98.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 146.

  8. Brent Celek, TE, Eagles. Bye: 12.
James Casey has been injured, while Zach Ertz has dropped too many passes. It appears as though Brent Celek will have a somewhat large role in Philadelphia’s offense.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 58 catches. 670 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 97.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 155.

  9. Coby Fleener, TE, Colts. Bye: 8.
AUG. 19 UPDATE: Coby Fleener had a very rough outing at New York. He dropped a pass and then failed to make a reception because he didn’t look back for the football. He ultimately exited with a mild knee sprain. Fleener has struggled mightily this summer, so you’re better off avoiding him in fantasy.

Coby Fleener had a great debut to his NFL career, catching six balls for 82 yards at Chicago. However, he fizzled out at the end of the season, logging exactly one reception in each of his final five games. Dwayne Allen could make the bigger fantasy impact again in 2013.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 50 catches. 640 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 94.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 144.

  10. Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Lions. Bye: 9.
Brandon Pettigrew was a major disappointment in 2012, catching just 59 balls for 567 yards and three touchdowns, though he was pretty much out for the final quarter of the season. Pettigrew kills his team with drops, so look for his targets to decrease if that continues, especially with Reggie Bush getting some balls thrown his way.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 68 catches. 690 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 93.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 161.
