2016 Fantasy Football Rankings - Wide Receivers (Sept. 7):
Top 10 | 11-20 | 21-40 | 41-60 | 61-100

  1. Sterling Shepard, WR, Giants. Bye: 8.
AUG. 28 UPDATE: Sterling Shepard saw just one target in the dress rehearsal. He caught it, a reception of just one yard. I like Shepard, but he’s being way overdrafted at his 8.03 ADP. If the Giants continue to have blocking issues, Shepard simply won’t do much until that’s fixed.

AUG. 13 UPDATE: Despite Eli Manning’s absence in the exhibition opener, Sterling Shepard stood out. The second-round rookie enjoyed a terrific offseason, and that has continued into the preseason. Shepard opened this game with a nice block on a 19-yard gain by Shane Vereen. Shepard then beat coverage and would’ve had a deep touchdown, but Ryan Nassib overthrew him. Shepard finally got on the board with a great diving catch along the sideline for 24 yards. Shepard was able to get open by running a terrific route. That ended up being Shepard’s only reception of the evening, but it’s quite evident that the hype is real. I was bearish on his seventh-round ADP, but I’m beginning to think that he might be worth a pick in that round.

AUG. 5 UPDATE: Sterling Shepard “keeps making plays” in training camp, according to Jordan Raanan, NJ.com. It’s a shame Shepard’s ADP is so high. I’d love him as a sleeper if he could be obtained in the 10th or 11th round, but I still think the seventh round is too early for an unproven rookie. I could change my mind based on what I see in the preseason, however.

JUNE 21 UPDATE: Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports that Sterling Shepard appears to be locked in for a starting job. Shepard might just be the top rookie receiver this season, as he seems to be Eli Manning’s No. 2 weapon.

A current sleeper, Sterling Shepard could have a large role sooner than most realize. The Giants said that they’re going to give Shepard every opportunity to become the No. 2 wideout, and that’s a real possibility, considering Victor Cruz’s status.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 70 catches. 920 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 134.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 204.

  2. Devin Funchess, WR, Panthers. Bye: 7.
AUG. 21 UPDATE: Kelvin Benjamin saw three targets right away in the second preseason game, snatching two of them for 29 yards. But then Cam Newton began targeting Devin Funchess heavily. Funchess eventually led the starters with five balls thrown his way. As with Benjamin, he secured two for 19 yards. It’s not the best stat line, but it’s encouraging that Funchess was such a big part of the offense. Funchess is definitely worth drafting at his 11th-round ADP.

AUG. 16 UPDATE: Devin Funchess could outproduce Kelvin Benjamin this offseason, according to David Newton, ESPN. That’s what ESPN Panthers reporter David Newton believes. He cited Benjamin’s concerning conditioning and Funchess’ talent level.

JUNE 21 UPDATE: Devin Funchess has been the star of Panthers OTAs, according to Joseph Person, Charlotte Observer. Funchess isn’t a bad late-round flier. With Kelvin Benjamin back, opposing defenses won’t be able to pay much attention to Funchess.

Devin Funchess caught seven passes for 120 yards and a touchdown in the season finale, but his yardage was meager in the other games. Funchess did, however, catch a touchdown every other game beginning in Week 9. Funchess will be better in 2016, though the Panthers could decline as a whole with everyone gunning for them.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 64 catches. 890 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 130.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 195.

  3. Travis Benjamin, WR, Chargers. Bye: 11.
Travis Benjamin emerged out of nowhere last year to become a solid fantasy option, despite being marooned on a miserable Cleveland team. Benjamin posted a 68-966-5 line, as his yardage crushed his previous career-high figure (314). Free agent receivers have a dubious track record, but Benjamin is a rare case where he’ll be playing with a far superior quarterback.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 65 catches. 940 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 130.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 195.

  4. Tavon Austin, WR, Rams. Bye: 8.
AUG. 28 UPDATE: New rich man Tavon Austin saw just one target against the Broncos, catching nothing. Austin has not enjoyed a quality preseason. In fact, he has no catches and just three total yards on one carry. I’m sure the Rams will find ways to get him the ball during the regular season, but it’s difficult to have faith in Austin right now, especially after how bad Jared Goff has looked through three preseason games.

Excluding Todd Gurley, Tavon Austin was the Rams’ only dynamic player on offense. He came close to 1,000 total yards, as 434 of it came on rushing attempts. He also scored nine times. The Rams should probably use Austin even more, and it’ll help his cause if Jared Goff pans out. We’ll see if that happens.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 60 catches. 930 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 129.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 189.

  5. Corey Coleman, WR, Browns. Bye: 13.
AUG. 10 UPDATE: Corey Coleman will miss the preseason opener with a hamstring injury. Coleman has a history of soft-tissue injuries, so this is worth noting. Stay tuned for further updates.

AUG. 7 UPDATE: Corey Coleman has been dominant in training camp, according to Tony Grossi, ESPN. Reports indicate that Coleman has been the real deal thus far. His ADP could rise as a result, but right now, it’s a reasonable 10.01.

Corey Coleman was the first receiver drafted in real life, but that may not be the case in fantasy, thanks to Cleveland’s horrid situation at quarterback. I would avoid Coleman in re-draft formats this year because you’re not going to get good value for him in your draft.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 71 catches. 990 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 129.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 200.

  6. Willie Snead, WR, Saints. Bye: 5.
Willie Snead became a reliable target for Drew Brees in 2015, catching 69 passes for 984 yards and three touchdowns in his first year. Snead’s role should continue to grow as he matures, though it remains to be seen if he becomes a bigger threat in the end zone. Michael Thomas’ addition muddles Snead’s outlook a bit, but he should still be a WR3.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 72 catches. 990 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 129.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 201.

  7. Will Fuller, WR, Texans. Bye: 9.
AUG. 28 UPDATE: Will Fuller was trending on Twitter for a while during his matchup versus Arizona, perhaps for two reasons. Fuller dropped a perfect pass that would’ve gone for an 84-yard touchdown. However, Fuller made up for it by snatching a 26-yard touchdown on what would be Osweiler’s final throw of the afternoon. Fuller finished with three grabs for 67 yards and a score. If he can get over his drop issues, he can evolve into a great No. 2 receiver. I wouldn’t draft him this year, but only because a game like this will escalate his ADP. I would happily take him in the final couple of rounds though.

AUG. 21 UPDATE: Will Fuller was playing behind Jaelen Strong during OTAs and the early stages of training camp, but Fuller has definitely emerged as the No. 2 receiver. Fuller saw a team-high seven targets from Brock Osweiler in the second preseason game, and he played very well. Fuller caught four passes for 73 yards and a touchdown, and he nearly had a second score, but Osweiler missed him by just a bit in the end zone. As long as he’s not overdrafted – first-round rookies tend to be – I like Fuller as a late-round option, as his role will grow with each passing week.

JULY 21 UPDATE: Will Fuller likely won’t be in the opening lineup come Week 1, per ESPN. Fuller may eventually claim a starting job, but Jaelen Strong has been more impressive this offseason.

Of all the first-round rookie receivers, Will Fuller appears to be in the best situation. He’ll have Brock Osweiler throwing to him; he figures to play a lot this year; and defenses won’t be able to focus on him because of DeAndre Hopkins. It’s difficult to trust rookie wideouts, but I’d be willing to take a flier on Fuller if I can get him in the late rounds.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 63 catches. 840 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 129.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 192.

  8. DeVante Parker, WR, Dolphins. Bye: 8.
SEPT. 4 UPDATE: There are “real questions” about when DeVante Parker will return from his hamstring injury. I don’t think it’s worth rostering Parker unless you have a deep bench. There are better sleeper options.

AUG. 31 UPDATE: DeVante Parker tweaked his hamstring Monday. Parker had issues with his hamstring earlier in camp. These injuries tend to linger, so be careful drafting Parker unless you can get him super late.

AUG. 26 UPDATE: DeVante Parker caught two of his four targets for only eight yards in the dress rehearsal. Parker has been underwhelming this preseason, and I stand by my assessment that he’s an overrated fantasy player. Ryan Tannehill prefers throwing to Jarvis Landry and Kenny Stills, so Parker is being way overdrafted, despite his talent level.

AUG. 6 UPDATE: DeVante Parker has missed the past four days of practice with a hamstring injury, according to Armando Salguero, Miami Herald. This might be something Parker could struggle to overcome, given his durability questions. He’s being drafted too early this year.

DeVante Parker did absolutely nothing in his rookie campaign until Week 12. Parker caught fire in the final three weeks, catching 13 passes for 286 yards and a touchdown in those contests, which bodes well going into 2016. Parker will have a bigger role in Miami’s offense, and WR3-type numbers are definitely within reach.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 66 catches. 920 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 128.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 194.

  9. Vincent Jackson, WR, Buccaneers. Bye: 6.
Vincent Jackson was barely healthy in 2015, so he managed just 33 catches for 543 yards and three touchdowns as a result. A bounce-back campaign is certainly possible, but Jackson turned 33 in January, so he could continue to regress.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 65 catches. 980 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 128.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 193.

  10. Kamar Aiken, WR, Ravens. Bye: 8.
Everyone chuckled when some guy named Kamar Aiken was Baltimore’s No. 1 receiver by default in the wake of injuries. Aiken had the last laugh, finishing with 75 receptions for 944 yards and five touchdowns. He was a monster down the stretch, recording at least five catches in every game beginning in Week 8. With Steve Smith’s status unknown and Breshad Perriman dealing with another injury, Aiken could have another strong season.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 67 catches. 830 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 123.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 190.

  11. Phillip Dorsett, WR, Colts. Bye: 10.
AUG. 21 UPDATE: T.Y. Hilton didn’t play in the second preseason game, so Andrew Luck focused on getting the ball to Phillip Dorsett early. Luck tossed the ball twice to Dorsett, who ultimately finished with three catches for 37 yards. Dorsett is a solid sleeper, as Indianapolis will utilize frequent three-receiver sets this upcoming season.

AUG. 11 UPDATE: Phillip Dorsett has been the most improved player at Colts training camp, according to Stephen Holder, Indianapolis Star. Dorsett is one of the players I have listed in my late-round sleepers page. He’s definitely worth taking toward the end of your draft.

Phillip Dorsett didn’t do much as a rookie, but there perhaps was a sign of things to come when he saw nine targets go his way in the season finale. With Andrew Luck returning from injury, Dorsett could have a solid sophomore campaign, especially with Coby Fleener gone.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 54 catches. 790 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 123.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 177.

  12. Michael Thomas, WR, Saints. Bye: 5.
AUG. 12 UPDATE: The Saint player who stood out the most in the preseason debut was Michael Thomas. The second-round rookie looked absolutely amazing – and Drew Brees wasn’t even throwing the ball to him! Thomas caught four passes for 67 yards. Two of those were terrific receptions. He made one for 25 yards while falling out of bounds. Bill Belichick actually reviewed the play, and it stood. Belichick looked stunned that the call wasn’t overturned. Thomas then made a superb diving catch for a gain of 28. He looks like the real deal, and he’s one of my favorite Fantasy Football Sleepers this year.

AUG. 1 UPDATE: Michael Thomas has been the best player at Saints’ camp thus far, according to Rod Walker, The Advocate. Wow, that’s high praise – especially considering that the Saints have Drew Brees and Brandin Cooks. Considering the offense he plays in, Thomas could lead all rookies in receiving.

JUNE 21 UPDATE: Fantasy drafters should “consider” Michael Thomas this summer, as suggested by Jim Duncan, New Orleans Times-Picayune. Duncan has seen enough of Thomas to make that statement. Though Thomas is just a rookie, he’ll be playing in a high-powered passing attack, so he stands a decent chance of leading all rookies in receiving.

Any Saints receiver must be considered as a fantasy option immediately. Drew Brees will be throwing a ton because his defense sucks, which could mean a big rookie campaign for Thomas. Keep in mind, however, that he’ll be the fourth option behind Brandin Cooks, Willie Snead and Coby Fleener.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 61 catches. 860 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 123.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 184.

  13. Kenny Stills, WR, Dolphins. Bye: 8.
Kenny Stills, through three games, leads all Miami receivers in targets during the preseason. I wouldn’t be particularly excited about Stills, but Ryan Tannehill seems to feel comfortable throwing to him. At the very least, Stills is worth a look as a late-round pick in PPR leagues.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 72 catches. 840 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 120.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 192.

  14. Tyler Boyd, WR, Bengals. Bye: 9.
AUG. 24 UPDATE: Tyler Boyd is the “unquestioned leader” for the No. 2 receiver job, according to Geoff Hobson, Bengals.com. Boyd is an intriguing late-round flier. Someone will have to catch passes besides A.J. Green, and Tyler Eifert is hurt right now.

AUG. 19 UPDATE: Rookie receiver Tyler Boyd did some quality things in the Bengals’ second preseason game. He made a terrific diving catch on the opening drive for a gain of 26 yards. Later on, he caught a back-shoulder touchdown from A.J. McCarron. Boyd’s two grabs went for 38 yards. He’ll be asked to work out of the slot as a rookie, and he’s worth a late-round flier, though there are probably better upside players.

JULY 3 UPDATE: The Bengals believe Tyler Boyd will contribute “early.” Boyd, a second-round rookie, has plenty of ability. He won’t start right away, but could end the year as the team’s No. 2 wideout. He’s someone to monitor as the season moves along.

Tyler Boyd is a talented player who would’ve gone higher in the draft than No. 55 overall. However, the Bengals have enjoyed success with these types of players before, and there’s a big void across from A.J. Green. Boyd should be able to win the job, but it’ll be difficult for him to be very productive right away because of Andy Dalton’s limitations.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 58 catches. 790 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 119.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 177.

  15. Pierre Garcon, WR, Redskins. Bye: 9.
There was talk that the Redskins would release Pierre Garcon, but those reports disappeared, even in the wake of the Josh Doctson selection. That’s bad news for Garcon’s fantasy outlook, as he just doesn’t fit well into Jay Gruden’s offense.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 71 catches. 760 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 112.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 183.

  16. Markus Wheaton, WR, Steelers. Bye: 8.
Markus Wheaton was a fantasy sleeper of mine, but he disappointed. Wheaton had some solid performances and was hurt by Ben Roethlisberger’s injury. Now, he stands to benefit from Martavis Bryant’s suspension, but he’ll have to hold off the more-talented Sammie Coates.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 54 catches. 820 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 112.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 166.

  17. Steve Smith, WR, Ravens. Bye: 8.
JULY 30 UPDATE: Steve Smith apparently had a “double rupture” in his Achilles, prompting his doctor to say that he hasn’t seen such an injury this bad. He referred to his Achilles looking like “raw, shredded chicken.” Smith hasn’t even had an entire year to recover from his Achilles, so it’s doubtful he’s going to do much early. I wouldn’t touch him in 12-team leagues. He might just be done.

JULY 24 UPDATE: Steve Smith has opened on the active/PUP list. While Smith can come off any time, it’s a reminder that he’s a 37-year-old who sustained a torn Achilles in November. He shouldn’t be counted on to be a big contributor.

JUNE 21 UPDATE: Steve Smith told the media he doesn’t know when he’s returning from his torn Achilles, according to Jamison Hensley, ESPN. Many believe Smith will be back soon just because he’s Steve Smith, but the fact of that matter is, he’s a guy in his late 30s returning from a brutal injury he sustained seven months ago. He might not be ready for Week 1.

Steve Smith was expected to retire after 2015. However, he tore his Achilles and vowed to give himself one more chance. I don’t want to doubt Smith, but drafting a 37-year-old coming off a torn Achilles doesn’t sound like the best move. I’d take him in the late rounds, but he’ll probably be drafted earlier.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 63 catches. 780 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 108.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 171.

  18. Breshad Perriman, WR, Ravens. Bye: 8.
AUG. 24 UPDATE: Breshad Perriman hasn’t shown affects of his torn ACL in his return to practice, according to Jamison Hensley, ESPN. Perriman is someone to consider in the final round or two of your draft. There are probably better sleepers, but taking Perriman could pay off if he’s actually healthy.

AUG. 23 UPDATE: Breshad Perriman has finally been removed off the PUP list. Now, let’s see how long it takes him to start practicing at full speed. Perriman is not being drafted right now, so taking him in the final round isn’t the worst idea.

JUNE 21 UPDATE: Breshad Perriman sustained a partially torn ACL at practice. It’s possible Perriman could be out for the year, though that’s unclear at the moment.

Breshad Perriman didn’t play at all as a rookie, thanks to a knee injury that never went away. Perriman should be a WR4 at the very least if he ever takes the field. I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that Perriman becomes a WR2, but he’s an unknown commodity right now.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 48 catches. 680 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 107.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 155.

  19. Anquan Boldin, WR, Lions. Bye: 10.
AUG. 12 UPDATE: Anquan Boldin is the favorite to be the No. 3 receiver this season, according to Kyle Meinke, MLive. Despite signing him late, the Lions are going to count on Boldin this year. He’s only an option in leagues with 14 or more teams right now, but he can be claimed off waivers if there’s an injury to Marvin Jones or Golden Tate.

JULY 27 UPDATE: The Lions signed Anquan Boldin, which is obviously a big boost to his fantasy stock. Boldin isn’t anything more than receiving depth at this point of his career, but he’s in a good place, as Matthew Stafford will help him be productive.

Anquan Boldin will turn 36 in October. It’s possible that he could have one more solid season as a fantasy WR3, but that depends on where he signs.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 64 catches. 770 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 107.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 171.

  20. Chris Conley, WR, Chiefs. Bye: 5.
AUG. 28 UPDATE: Chris Conley appears as though he’s going to be a decent NFL receiver. Taken in the third round last year, Conley already had the raw talent, but now he’s learning how to play football. Conley finished second in targets with six against the Bears. He caught two passes for 30 yards, but should’ve drawn a holding call. It’s just a shame that Conley has a limited quarterback throwing to him.

AUG. 21 UPDATE: Chris Conley had a solid Week 2 preseason game. Showing off his excellent athletic ability, Conley caught three passes for 67 yards. Conley is a fine pick late in fantasy drafts, but I’d like him more as a sleeper if the Chiefs had a talented quarterback.

JULY 17 UPDATE: Chris Conley is the favorite to be the No. 2 receiver with Albert Wilson receiving reps in the slot. Conley, a 2015 third-rounder, has a ton of athletic ability. Though Alex Smith’s mediocrity will weigh him down, he still has some potential as a late-round flier.

JUNE 29 UPDATE: Chris Conley has been training with Jeremy Maclin this offseason. Conley has very good athleticism and upside, so it’s nice that he’s taking career seriously. Conley is worth a late-round flier.

Chris Conley is a raw, but athletic receiver, who saw nine targets in the divisional round of the playoffs. He was on the field frequently because of Jeremy Maclin’s injury. Conley has the potential to make a big jump, but his stats won’t max out as long as Alex Smith is the quarterback.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 56 catches. 840 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 118.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 174.
