2013 Fantasy Football Rankings - Wide Receivers (Sept. 4):
Top 10 | 11-20 | 21-40 | 41-60 | 61-95 |

  1. Greg Jennings, WR, Vikings. Bye: 5.
AUG. 26 UPDATE: Greg Jennings saw a team-high six targets at San Francisco, but managed only two receptions for 24 yards. He did draw a pass-interference flag in the end zone, but the fact remains that Jennings is going to have a lot of these 4-48 (doubling up the stats) types of contests with Christian Ponder as his quarterback. There’s absolutely no upside with Jennings, who should be avoided in all fantasy drafts because he’s being picked way too early.

AUG. 17 UPDATE: Greg Jennings saw four targets go his way in his first preseason game with the Vikings. The result? One catch for five yards. Ponder has a limited skill set, while Jennings took the money and ran to play with an inferior quarterback. It’s safe to say that he’s going to have a very disappointing 2013 campaign.

Greg Jennings goes from Aaron Rodgers to Christian Ponder. Blegh. Jennings proved that he didn’t care about his football career by making the move to Minnesota, so given that he’s content with the money, it’s fair to expect him to bust.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 71 catches. 910 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 127.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 198.

  2. Chris Givens, WR, Rams. Bye: 11.
AUG. 9 UPDATE: If you want a Rams’ receiver, go with Chris Givens. The second-year product is being drafted way too late despite the strong possibility that he could be the more-productive receiver. Givens saw three targets and hauled in all of his passes, including a 59-yard bomb in the second quarter. Givens finished with 82 yards and a touchdown in the exhibition opener.

Brian Quick was drafted earlier than Chris Givens, but the latter was the rookie receiver who stood out last year. Givens caught 42 passes for 698 yards and three touchdowns in 2012, standing out with an 11-reception, 92-yard outing against San Francisco in Week 13. He’ll be a strong backup this season.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 64 catches. 970 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 127.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 191.

  3. Golden Tate, WR, Seahawks. Bye: 12.
AUG. 21 UPDATE: I meant to move up Golden Tate in my rankings, but with so much going on Saturday night, it simply slipped my mind until VBSiena reminded me. Tate has looked much improved in the preseason and could have some WR3 potential.

Russell Wilson loves to spread the ball around, so it’s tough to love any Seattle wideout. However, it’s encouraging that Golden Tate had a 6-103-1 line in a playoff loss to the Falcons. I wouldn’t trust him as a starter, but he’s good fantasy depth.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 66 catches. 910 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 127.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 193.

  4. Sidney Rice, WR, Seahawks. Bye: 12.
With Percy Harvin out until Week 13 or so, someone has to step up as Seattle’s No. 1 wideout. How about Sidney Rice, who seems to have become a forgotten man? If you’ve owned Rice in a fantasy league recently, you’ve been disappointed by him. However, Rice appears to be over his injuries. In fact, he’s had preventative surgery in Switzerland. Rice could be a surprise this year. He’s worth a late-round pick.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 64 catches. 910 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 127.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 191.

  5. Kendall Wright, WR, Titans. Bye: 8.
AUG. 9 UPDATE: Kendall Wright was targeted only once in one full half of action against the Redskins, which is quite discouraging. He dropped the pass.

With Nate Washington being phased out of the offense, Kendall Wright will be a more prominent player in Tennessee’s scoring attack. Now in his second year, Wright is expected to take a big leap forward and emerge as a fantasy WR3 at the very least.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 67 catches. 910 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 126.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 193.

  6. Nate Washington, WR, Titans. Bye: 8.
AUG. 28 UPDATE: With Kenny Britt dealing with knee issues and Kendall Wright recovering from his own injury, this is a friendly reminder that Jake Locker has thrown to Nate Washington more than anyone else this preseason. Grab Washington as a sleeper late in your draft.

AUG. 25 UPDATE: Nate Washington continued to serve as Jake Locker’s preferred target, tying the Tennessee starters with a team-high four targets against the Falcons. Washington hauled in all four grabs for 70 yards and a touchdown. He’s on my Fantasy Football Sleepers list because Locker simply loves throwing the ball to him.

There was some speculation that Nate Washington would be phased out of the offense this year, but he led the Titan starters in targets (6) against the Bengals. He hauled in four of those balls for 44 yards. I would’ve given him a major bump had Kendall Wright suffered a major injury, but Washington should still serve as a decent fantasy backup.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 60 catches. 900 yards. 6 total TD.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 126.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 186.

  7. Michael Floyd, WR, Cardinals. Bye: 9.
JULY 20 UPDATE: Cardinals’ beat writer Darren Urban noted that “there is little question” that the Arizona coaching staff is making sure that Michael Floyd is ready to handle a “large load.” Floyd is a terrific sleeper, so make sure you target him in the later rounds.

JUNE 11 UPDATE: Michael Floyd has led all Cardinal receivers – including Larry Fitzgerald – in targets during OTAs. With Carson Palmer very eager to take shots downfield, Floyd could have a WR3-caliber sophomore season.

Michael Floyd had some bright moments in his rookie campaign, including the 14-catch, 213-yard stretch (which included a touchdown) in his final two games. Things seemed to click for him at the end, and it’ll only get better now that he has a legitimate quarterback throwing the ball to him. He’s one of my favorite sleeper receivers this season.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 69 catches. 950 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 125.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 194.

  8. Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Colts. Bye: 8.
AUG. 27 UPDATE: Darrius Heyward-Bey’s confidence is “skyrocketing” according to head coach Chuck Pagano. Heyward-Bey had major issues with drops (as usual) early in camp, but he’s been very sharp lately to the point that he can be drafted late as someone with upside.

AUG. 25 UPDATE: Darrius Heyward-Bey was inexplicably efficient versus Cleveland. He caught all three targets thrown to him for 33 yards. He’s a starter in a high-powered offense, so he’s worth a look in the later rounds.

AUG. 6 UPDATE: Darrius Heyward-Bey sprained his MCL and will be out for a few weeks. He shouldn’t have been on your fantasy radar anyway, but just cross him off your potential late-round sleepers list if you had him there.

Darrius Heyward-Bey is Andrew Luck’s fifth option behind Reggie Wayne, T.Y. Hilton and the two second-year tight ends.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 61 catches. 950 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 125.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 186.

  9. Vincent Brown, WR, Chargers. Bye: 8.
AUG. 16 UPDATE: No Danario Alexander, no Malcom Floyd, so Vincent Brown was expected to be the star wideout in San Diego’s offense in the second preseason game. Brown, however, wasn’t targeted on a single occasion. Philip Rivers didn’t have much time in the pocket to find Brown downfield – a theme that’s sure to continue throughout this entire season.

AUG. 4 UPDATE: Vincent Brown is back at practice, but that’s not the reason for his up arrow. Danario Alexander is out for the year with a torn ACL, so Brown is the favorite to start across from Malcom Floyd. He could easily lead the Chargers in receiving yardage.

AUG. 4 UPDATE: So much for being a fantasy sleeper. Vincent Brown has missed six consecutive practices because of a hamstring problem. A young player like Brown needs the reps to emerge as a starter and a trusted weapon for the quarterback, so this definitely hurts his fantasy value.

JULY 26 UPDATE: The San Diego Union Tribune wrote that Vincent Brown shined during the first day of training camp. I liked Brown as a sleeper last year until he suffered a season-ending injury in the exhibition games. He’s very talented and could easily emerge as Philip Rivers’ preferred receiver.

Vincent Brown caught four passes for 81 yards and a touchdown in the preseason opener. Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending ankle injury the following week. Brown is very athletic and could easily pass Malcom Floyd on the depth chart. He’s someone to consider in the final couple of rounds.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 57 catches. 850 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 125.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 182.

  10. DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Texans. Bye: 8.
SEPT. 4 UPDATE: DeAndre Hopkins has been medically cleared to play after passing his concussion tests. It took him a while to get the green light, so this is definitely a concern because another concussion could knock him out for a while. In the meantime, however, he’ll be on the field, so that’s good news.

AUG. 31 UPDATE: DeAndre Hopkins still hasn’t passed tests for a concussion he suffered on Aug. 17. Hopkins had a severe concussion in college as well, so this is starting to look like a major issue.

AUG. 10 UPDATE: DeAndre Hopkins recorded four catches for 52 yards and a touchdown in his preseason debut. He has a better chance of producing this year than Cordarrelle Patterson because the Texans have a more stable quarterbacking situation. He’ll probably be overdrafted because he’s a rookie, but he can definitely flirt with WR3 status.

DeAndre Hopkins is the overwhelming favorite to claim the No. 2 wideout position, given that his competition is Lestar Jean and Keshawn Martin. Hopkins is pro-ready with great route-running ability, so he could definitely be a decent producer in 2013. I hate trusting rookie receivers, but I wouldn’t be opposed to using a late-round flier on him.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 62 catches. 900 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 125.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 187.

  11. Greg Little, WR, Browns. Bye: 10.
Greg Little is frustrating to watch because he drops a ton of passes, but he improved statistically as the 2012 campaign went on, snagging at least four receptions in four of his final five games. He also caught two touchdowns in that span. Unfortunately, he’s still stuck with Brandon Weeden (or Jason Campbell or Brian Hoyer).

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 69 catches. 890 receiving yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 119.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 188.

  12. Ryan Broyles, WR, Lions. Bye: 9.
JUNE 15 UPDATE: Ryan Broyles has been a full participant in each mini-camp practice thus far. This is great news for a receiver with a high ceiling (especially in PPR formats) if he can stay healthy.

Ryan Broyles flashed as a rookie, but tore his ACL in early December. He could be ready for the start of the season, but he’s so injury-prone. I’d take a shot on him in the later rounds of a PPR league, but be prepared to dump him if he can’t play.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 58 catches. 820 yards. 4 total TD.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 116.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 174.

  13. Brian Hartline, WR, Dolphins. Bye: 6.
JULY 22 UPDATE: Ryan Tannehill showed a much greater rapport with Brian Hartline during the first day of training camp than he did with Mike Wallace. Tannehill actually failed to connect with Wallace on multiple occasions. Their bond will obviously grow stronger, but this is a reminder that Hartline is a decent, late-round fantasy option. Defenses will focus on Wallace, giving Hartline much more favorable matchups.

Brian Hartline became extremely overrated when he caught 12 passes for 253 yards and a touchdown at Arizona on Week 4. He didn’t score again for the rest of the season, and he eclipsed the 100-yard mark just once. With Mike Wallace and Dustin Keller on the team to steal targets, Hartline is nothing more than an OK backup at this point.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 63 catches. 920 yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 116.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 179.

  14. Rueben Randle, WR, Giants. Bye: 9.
AUG. 11 UPDATE: Taking advantage of Hakeem Nicks’ absence, Rueben Randle led the Giants in targets from Eli Manning in the preseason opener. He saw three balls go his way, including one in the end zone. He only came up with one catch, but he made Troy Polamalu miss on what turned out to be a 16-yard gain. Randle won’t be much of a fantasy factor if Nicks is healthy, but he can be started as a WR3/flex otherwise.

Rueben Randle needs an injury to Hakeem Nicks or Victor Cruz to make a big impact, but that can definitely happen, as we’ve seen the former battle through numerous maladies over the past few seasons. Randle showed flashes as a rookie, most notably in Week 17 when he snagged four receptions for 58 yards and two touchdowns.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 49 catches. 660 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 116.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 165.

  15. Rod Streater, WR, Raiders. Bye: 7.
I liked Rod Streater as a sleeper last season. He dropped some passes in the opener and fell out of favor with the coaching staff, but he finished on a strong note, catching 18 balls for 348 yards and a touchdown in his final five games. On that pace, he’d log 57 receptions, 1,113 yards and three scores over a whole season. That seems far-fetched, but Darrius Heyward-Bey is gone, and Oakland will be throwing a lot because the team won’t have many leads.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 59 catches. 910 total yards. 4 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 115.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 174.

  16. Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Vikings. Bye: 5.
AUG. 10 UPDATE: Cordarrelle Patterson finished his preseason debut with four receptions for 54 yards. I wouldn’t pick him this year because rookie wideouts tend to be overdrafted, but it looks like he’ll be a fantasy stud once he has a good quarterback throwing the ball to him.

Cordarrelle Patterson has all the talent in the world, but he won’t reach his statistical potential as long as Christian Ponder is his quarterback. Patterson also happens to be raw, so I wouldn’t bother using a fantasy pick on him until the very end of the draft.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 50 catches. 840 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 114.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 164.

  17. Quinton Patton, WR, 49ers. Bye: 9.
Quinton Patton, who caught two balls for 52 yards and a touchdown in the preseason finale, is a very talented, hard-working receiver whose role will increase as the season moves along. He’s worth a shot in the final couple of rounds.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 55 catches. 690 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 114.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 169.

  18. Santonio Holmes, WR, Jets. Bye: 10.
SEPT. 3 UPDATE: Santonio Holmes has a shot to play in Week 1. It’s convenient strange that he’s not milking his injuries anymore now that Mark Sanchez has been removed as the starting quarterback via injuries.

AUG. 6 UPDATE: Santonio Holmes is expected to miss the first four games of the season. This is hardly a surprise. Holmes is a bum, so don’t draft him, even if he’s available in the 16th round.

JUNE 6 UPDATE: Rex Ryan told the media that Santonio Holmes could begin training camp on the PUP list. Holmes is coming off a Lisfranc injury and doesn’t really care if his team wins or loses, so it’s no surprise that he has fallen behind in his recovery. Avoid this bum at all cost.

Despite quitting on his team multiple times, Santonio Holmes is still on the Jets somehow. Paired with a rookie quarterback, Holmes is bound to struggle in 2013. Don’t draft him because he has very little upside.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 54 catches. 720 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 112.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 166.

  19. Malcom Floyd, WR, Chargers. Bye: 8.
AUG. 22 UPDATE: Malcom Floyd has a decent chance to play in Week 1, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. He’s been out since the beginning of August with a sprained knee, but he’s making good progress. Still, it’s difficult to get excited about such a mediocre talent.

AUG. 14 UPDATE: Malcom Floyd sprained his knee, so he’ll be out for about a month. It could be worse, as the Chargers are sending Floyd to Dr. James Andrews to see if he tore his knee.

Vincent Jackson was gone and Robert Meachem predictably disappointed, but Malcom Floyd didn’t make the leap that was expected of him in 2012, as he fell behind Danario Alexander in the pecking order of Philip Rivers’ favorite targets. Floyd isn’t anything more than fantasy depth.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 51 catches. 820 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 112.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 163.

  20. Denarius Moore, WR, Raiders. Bye: 7.
AUG. 30 UPDATE: Denarius Moore was targeted thrice in the entire first half of the preseason finale, but he didn’t log a single reception. Moore dropped the ball in the red zone and earlier ran a bad route, resulting in an incompletion. Moore is physically gifted, but he’s nowhere close to putting it together mentally. Avoid.

AUG. 8 UPDATE: Denarius Moore has struggled in training camp, as he’s dropped tons of passes and failed to click with Matt Flynn. Considering Moore is a deep threat and Flynn has a noodle arm, this shouldn’t be much of a surprise.

Denarius Moore is a talented receiver, but has to deal with a poor quarterbacking situation. Carson Palmer was OK, but now Moore will be paired with the noodle-armed Matt Flynn.

Projected 2013 Fantasy Stats: 58 catches. 810 yards. 5 total TDs.
    Projected 2013 Fantasy Points: 111.
Projected 2013 PPR Fantasy Points: 169.
