Marques Colston, WR, Saints. Bye: 10.
JULY 30 UPDATE: Marques Colston was placed on the active/PUP list in the wake of an offseason knee scope. Colston is expected to be ready by Week 1, but he’s had two procedures on his knees before. This is a situation to monitor in training camp.
PREVIOUS UPDATE: Drew Brees has so many weapons that Marques Colston is a very inconsistent fantasy producer. He finished with 70 catches for 1,074 yards and nine touchdowns last year, but caught three or fewer passes on a whopping six occasions.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 75 catches. 1,130 yards. 9 total TDs.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 167.
Projected 2010 PPR Fantasy Points: 242.

Brandon Marshall, WR, Dolphins. Bye: 5. 
AUG. 24 UPDATE: Chad Henne targeted Brandon Marshall a team-high four times. Marshall finished with four grabs for 65 yards. He dropped a pass early on, but made up for it with a 37-yard sideline grab from Chad Pennington.
PREVIOUS UPDATE: Brandon Marshall caught 101 passes for 1,120 yards and 10 touchdowns with Kyle Orton. Something tells me that Marshall will be fine with Chad Henne. Marshall’s reception total will likely drop in Miami’s offense, but his yards per catch will rise because unlike Orton, Henne doesn’t have the arm strength of a 12-year-old girl. In fact, Henne’s actually a fantasy sleeper of mine because quarterbacks with new receivers thrive in fantasy football.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 88 catches. 1,100 yards. 9 total TDs.

Anquan Boldin, WR, Ravens. Bye: 8.
AUG. 30 UPDATE: Anquan Boldin was more involved on offense in Baltimore’s third preseason contest, which is encouraging. Boldin saw six targets, grabbing four of them for 52 yards and a score.
AUG. 23 UPDATE: Anquan Boldin is the most talented receiver on Baltimore’s roster, but Derrick Mason continues to get more catches than the former Arizona Cardinal. Joe Flacco’s familiarity with Mason is translating into more targets for the old veteran. Boldin has only two receptions this preseason.
PREVIOUS UPDATE: If a 35-year-old Derrick Mason can catch 73 passes for 1,028 yards and seven touchdowns in Baltimore’s offense, I think Anquan Boldin can at least match those numbers (assuming he stays healthy, of course). The Ravens didn’t sign and draft all of these receivers for Joe Flacco just so they could run the ball some more; they’re going to be airing it out quite a bit, and Boldin will be Flacco’s primary end-zone target.

Jeremy Maclin, WR, Eagles. Bye: 8.
AUG. 28 UPDATE: Jeremy Maclin saw a whopping 10 targets in about three quarters of play at Kansas City. He caught three passes; two were dropped, and two would have been receptions had a pair of uncalled pass interferences never occurred. Still, Maclin is a stud. I’m expecting a big year from him as an undervalued top 15 fantasy wideout.
AUG. 14 UPDATE: Jeremy Maclin had two catches for 32 yards in the preseason opener, but was targeted more than any wide receiver by Kevin Kolb. Maclin also saw a pass go his way in the end zone, but Jaguars free safety Reggie Nelson tipped it away. Maclin looks like he’s going to have a huge sophomore campaign.
PREVIOUS UPDATE: Jeremy Maclin totaled 55 receptions, 762 yards and four touchdowns in his rookie campaign. He finished strong; in his final seven games, including a playoff loss to Dallas, Maclin grabbed 37 balls for 571 yards and two scores. Transpose that over a full 16-game slate, and you get 85 receptions, 1,305 yards and five touchdowns.
There is some risk with Maclin, however. Kevin Kolb has started only two games, and there’s no telling how Kolb and Maclin will mesh. As I do every year, I’ll watch every single NFL preseason game, so I’ll be able to tell you how Philadelphia’s new offense looks.

Hakeem Nicks, WR, Giants. Bye: 8. 
SEPT. 3 UPDATE: Hakeem Nicks saw five targets in the preseason finale, catching three balls for 33 yards. He also had a 15-yard end around. Nicks is due for a big year and makes for an excellent sixth-round pick as a WR3.
AUG. 3 UPDATE: Hakeem Nicks lined up as a starting receiver across from Steve Smith on Monday, while Mario Manningham looks to be the team’s new punt returner. In short, no need to worry about Manningham starting over Nicks; Nicks clearly is the better talent and he’s not standing on the sidelines.
PREVIOUS UPDATE: After mustering only three receptions in the first four weeks of his rookie campaign, Hakeem Nicks became a big part of New York’s offense. Nicks tallied 47 receptions for 790 yards and six touchdowns by year’s end. Now that Nicks is in his second season, Eli Manning will rely on him more. I think it’s reasonable to expect 1,000 yards and 6-8 touchdowns from Nicks in 2010.

Steve Smith, WR, Giants. Bye: 8. 
Steve Smith is never going to be a big touchdown producer (only three of his seven scores came after Week 5 last year), but he’s incredibly consistent. Only once in 2009 did Smith fail to catch fewer than four passes. He concluded his third year with 107 receptions and 1,220 yards. He’s a solid WR2 in regular formats and a low-end WR1 in PPR leagues.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 98 catches. 1,100 yards. 6 total TDs.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Points: 146.

Michael Crabtree, WR, 49ers. Bye: 9.
Michael Crabtree missed San Francisco’s first five games. Of the remaining 11 contests, he caught at least four passes in nine of them. That’s amazing considering that he and Alex Smith spent no time working together during the previous offseason. Expect much bigger things from Crabtree now that he’ll be coming off an entire summer with his quarterback.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 76 catches. 1,040 yards. 7 total TDs.

Dwayne Bowe, WR, Chiefs. Bye: 4. 
AUG. 24 UPDATE: It was nice to see Dwayne Bowe become more involved on offense a week after doing nothing. Bowe caught three balls (out of five targets) for 33 yards at Tampa Bay. Coming off a great offseason, Bowe could have a solid WR2-worthy year.
AUG. 1 UPDATE: Per various sources, Dwayne Bowe has been tearing it up in training camp and hasn’t dropped any passes. This is great news, as the effort isn’t always there with Bowe. He’s a great buy-low candidate after a disastrous 2009.
PREVIOUS UPDATE: Dwayne Bowe is a good buy-low candidate. He had only 47 receptions, 589 yards and four touchdowns in 2009, thanks to injuries, crappy quarterbacking and horrific coaching. Todd Haley and the noodle-armed Matt Cassel are still there, but perhaps Charlie Weis’ offensive prowess will help Bowe rebound from the worst season of his career.
Projected 2010 Fantasy Stats: 80 catches. 1,025 yards. 7 total TDs.

Malcom Floyd, WR, Chargers. Bye: 10.
AUG. 28 UPDATE: A very promising third preseason game for Malcom Floyd if you have him on your roster or plan on drafting him. He saw eight targets, catching four passes for 51 yards and a touchdown.
AUG. 23 UPDATE: Vincent Jackson has absolutely no leverage right now because Malcom Floyd played like a legitimate No. 1 receiver against the Cowboys. He opened the game with a leaping 16-yard reception along the sidelines. In all, he was targeted six times, converting those passes into three catches for 47 yards.
JULY 1 UPDATE: Vincent Jackson has officially been suspended for three games. There’s also a good chance he’ll be dealt. In the wake of all this, Malcom Floyd will become Philip Rivers’ No. 1 receiver for at least three games – and perhaps the entire season if Jackson leaves.
PREVIOUS UPDATE: It’s hard to believe that Malcom Floyd has been around since 2004 and is turning 29 in September because he’s just coming on. Floyd notched career-highs in receptions (45) and yards (776) last year, and he’ll be counted on as the No. 1 receiver while Vincent Jackson is serving his 2-4 game suspension. Floyd should be able to post solid numbers this season; this is his contract year.

Percy Harvin, WR, Vikings. Bye: 4. 
AUG. 25 UPDATE: Sidney Rice will be out until at least Week 9-10, which means that Percy Harvin will be Brett Favre’s No. 1 receiving option for most of the year. Still though, Harvin has his own issues with his migraines, so don’t reach for him.
AUG. 20 UPDATE: Percy Harvin scared everyone Thursday afternoon. He collapsed during practice and vomited, and later had to be hospitalized. Bernard Berrian tweeted that Harvin is OK, but it just goes to show how serious Harvin’s migraines are. If you draft Harvin, you’ll almost certainly miss him for at least a couple of weeks.
PREVIOUS UPDATE: The Collard Kector had a great rookie season, catching 60 balls for 790 yards and six touchdowns. He also rushed for 135 yards on only 15 attempts. He should have a bigger sophomore campaign. Two things to keep in mind: Percy Harvin’s fantasy production depends on a 41-year-old Brett Favre staying healthy. Also, Harvin has chronic migraine problems, so he may miss a few games again. The Collard Kector is very risk-reward, but does get interviewed by hot women (fast forward to :43 for the famous quote).
