2009 Fantasy Football Mock Draft: Experts Invitational

July 23, 2009.

This is a real fantasy draft. It was conducted on July 17, 2009.

Twelve Web sites, including The Football Expert, Fantasy Guru and this one were invited to participate in the Fantasy Players Network Draft Challenge.

A few things to note about this league:

1) PPR scoring system

2) 25-man roster, starting 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 RB/WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF.

3) No lineups; only the top QB, top 2 RBs; top 3 WRs; etc. are counted from each roster every week. For example, if you have three quarterbacks, only the top-scoring quarterback counts each week. Thus, it’s important to have multiple quarterbacks, tight ends, kickers and defenses; you can’t pick one up during the season.

ROUND 1:

(1) ProFSA – Maurice Jones-Drew RB, Jaguars
(2) TheFootballExpert – Adrian Peterson, RB, Vikings
(3) BFD Fantasy Football – Chris Johnson, RB, Titans
(4) FightingChanceFantasy – Matt Forte, RB, Falcons
(5) Global Sports Fraternity – Michael Turner, RB, Falcons
(6) WalterFootball.com – LaDainian Tomlinson RB, Chargers
(7) Fantasy Football Trader – Steven Jackson, RB, Rams
(8) FantasyFootballSearch – Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Cardinals
(9) FantasyGuru – Brian Westbrook, RB, Eagles
(10) FantasyPros911 – DeAngelo Williams, RB, Panthers
(11) UltimateFFStrategy – Andre Johnson, WR, Texans
(12) FantasyMojo – Frank Gore, RB, 49ers

MY PICK: An easy decision. With Chris Johnson and Matt Forte gone, LaDainian Tomlinson was the obvious choice, especially in a PPR format. I have Tomlinson ranked high in my 2009 Fantasy Football Rankings despite the fact that most of the talking heads doubt him. Tomlinson, who’s fully healthy for the first offseason in years, has a chip on his shoulder. He’s going to prove his detractors wrong.

BEST PICK: Getting Forte with the No. 4 pick in a PPR league is a major steal. I would have drafted Forte first overall in this format.

WORST PICK: Not a big fan of FantasyFootballSearch going for a receiver with the eighth selection – especially one with a 38-year-old quarterback and the Madden Curse looming over him. Larry Fitzgerald might as well go for the trifecta and piss on an Indian burial ground.

ROUND 2:

(1) FantasyMojo – Randy Moss WR, Patriots
(2) UltimateFFStrategy – Steve Slaton RB, Texans
(3) FantasyPros911 – Brandon Jacobs, RB, Giants
(4) FantasyGuru – Greg Jennings, WR, Packers
(5) FantasyFootballSearch – Marion Barber, RB, Cowboys
(6) Fantasy Football Trader – Calvin Johnson, WR, Lions
(7) WalterFootball.com – Clinton Portis, RB, Redskins
(8) Global Sports Fraternity – Ronnie Brown, RB, Dolphins
(9) FightingChanceFantasy – Anquan Boldin, WR, Cardinals
(10) BFD Fantasy Football – Reggie Wayne, WR, Colts
(11) TheFootballExpert – Drew Brees, QB, Saints
(12) ProFSA – Tom Brady, QB, Patriots

MY PICK: Clinton Portis caught 28 passes last year, so he’s not a dead beat in PPR formats. I have no clue why Portis lasted so long; I was pretty shocked, so pulling the trigger on him was an easy decision.

BEST PICK: The fact that Steve Slaton fell to the second round of a PPR draft is a joke.

WORST PICK: When Ronnie Brown suffers his biennial ACL tear during the middle of the season, Global Sports Fraternity will be debacled. Greg Jennings was a reach as well.

ROUND 3:

(1) ProFSA – Roddy White, WR, Falcons
(2) TheFootballExpert – Steve Smith WR, Panthers
(3) BFD Fantasy Football – Brandon Marshall, WR, Broncos
(4) FightingChanceFantasy – Marques Colston, WR, Saints
(5) Global Sports Fraternity – Aaron Rodgers, QB, Packers
(6) WalterFootball.com – Peyton Manning, QB, Colts
(7) Fantasy Football Trader – Dwayne Bowe, WR, Chiefs
(8) FantasyFootballSearch – Jason Witten, TE, Cowboys
(9) FantasyGuru – Wes Welker, WR, Patriots
(10) FantasyPros911 – Philip Rivers, QB, Chargers
(11) UltimateFFStrategy – Terrell Owens, WR, Cowboys
(12) FantasyMojo – Reggie Bush, RB, Saints

MY PICK: I really wanted to go with Knowshon Moreno, Pierre Thomas, Kevin Smith or Reggie Bush (great in PPR leagues) but Peyton Manning presented too much value in the middle of Round 3, especially considering that Aaron Rodgers went off the board before him. I already had two running backs, and what were the odds that all four of those guys would be taken off the board by my fourth-round selection?

BEST PICK: Jason Witten, Reggie Bush and Wes Welker are all awesome in PPR leagues. Nice picks.

WORST PICK: Brandon Marshall in the third round? With a downgrade at quarterback and a possible suspension? Marshall was a good pick in the third round last year, but Josh Mishandles completely ruined his fantasy status.

ROUND 4:

(1) FantasyMojo – Pierre Thomas, RB, Saints
(2) UltimateFFStrategy – Kevin Smith, RB, Lions
(3) FantasyPros911 – T.J. Houshmandzadeh, WR, Seahawks
(4) FantasyGuru – Braylon Edwards, WR, Browns
(5) FantasyFootballSearch – Knowshon Moreno, RB, Broncos
(6) Fantasy Football Trader – Darren McFadden, RB, Raiders
(7) WalterFootball.com – Derrick Ward, RB, Buccaneers
(8) Global Sports Fraternity – Marshawn Lynch, RB, Bills
(9) FightingChanceFantasy – Joseph Addai, RB, Colts
(10) BFD Fantasy Football – Eddie Royal, WR, Broncos
(11) TheFootballExpert – Tony Gonzalez, TE, Falcons
(12) ProFSA – Ryan Grant, RB, Packers

MY PICK: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

When Pierre Thomas went off the board, I cringed. When Kevin Smith was taken, I prayed. When Knowshon Moreno was chosen, I considered jumping out of my window. Derrick Ward will catch a lot of passes, but doesn’t compare to those three guys.

BEST PICK: Take a wild guess.

WORST PICK: Joseph Addai’s new owner may not have a fighting chance. See what I did there? Awesome play on words if I do say so myself.

ROUND 5:

(1) ProFSA – Roy Williams, WR, Cowboys
(2) TheFootballExpert – Larry Johnson, RB, Chiefs
(3) BFD Fantasy Football – Chad Ochocinco, WR, Bengals
(4) FightingChanceFantasy – Kurt Warner, QB, Cardinals
(5) Global Sports Fraternity – Santonio Holmes, WR, Steelers
(6) WalterFootball.com – Antonio Bryant, WR, Buccaneers
(7) Fantasy Football Trader – Antonio Gates, TE, Chargers
(8) FantasyFootballSearch – Tony Romo, QB, Cowboys
(9) FantasyGuru – Chris Wells, RB, Cardinals
(10) FantasyPros911 – Vincent Jackson, WR, Chargers
(11) UltimateFFStrategy – Thomas Jones, RB, Jets
(12) FantasyMojo – Dallas Clark, TE, Colts

MY PICK: Not a fancy-shmancy pick or anything, but Antonio Bryant was the best wideout on my board. With my quarterback and running back positions filled, I had to look for a receiver.

BEST PICK: I’ve seen Roy Williams go as high as the third round in some fantasy drafts, so I have to give ProFSA the nod.

WORST PICK: Not sure if the Football Expert is aware, but this league does not reward points whenever players spitting into a woman’s face.

ROUND 6:

(1) FantasyMojo – Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Colts
(2) UltimateFFStrategy – Hines Ward, WR, Steelers
(3) FantasyPros911 – Michael Crabtree, WR, 49ers
(4) FantasyGuru – Jay Cutler, QB, Bears
(5) FantasyFootballSearch – Lee Evans, WR, Bills
(6) Fantasy Football Trader – Felix Jones, RB, Cowboys
(7) WalterFootball.com – Santana Moss, WR, Redskins
(8) Global Sports Fraternity – Bernard Berrian, WR, Vikings
(9) FightingChanceFantasy – Jonathan Stewart, RB, Panthers
(10) BFD Fantasy Football – LenDale White, RB, Titans
(11) TheFootballExpert – DeSean Jackson, WR, Eagles
(12) ProFSA – Laveranues Coles, WR, Bengals

MY PICK: Again, the best receiver available. Taking Peyton Manning and then using my next pick on a third running back is something I’m currently regretting.

BEST PICK: I was hoping Anthony Gonzalez and Lee Evans would fall to me. Again, thoughts of hanging myself entered my head when the two went off the board.

WORST PICK: Michael Crabtree? Matt Maiocco, a 49ers beat writer, recently opined that his projection of 47 catches, 530 yards and three touchdowns was overly optimistic. Crabtree’s undoubtedly talented, but Round 6 is way too high.

ROUND 7:

(1) ProFSA – Devin Hester, WR, Bears
(2) TheFootballExpert – Willis McGahee, RB, Ravens
(3) BFD Fantasy Football – Ray Rice, RB, Ravens
(4) FightingChanceFantasy – Donald Brown, RB, Colts
(5) Global Sports Fraternity – Kellen Winslow Jr., TE, Buccaneers
(6) WalterFootball.com – Chris Cooley, TE, Redskins
(7) Fantasy Football Trader – Donovan McNabb, QB, Eagles
(8) FantasyFootballSearch – Willie Parker, RB, Steelers
(9) FantasyGuru – Darren Sproles, RB, Chargers
(10) FantasyPros911 – Matt Ryan, QB, Falcons
(11) UltimateFFStrategy – Jerricho Cotchery, WR, Jets
(12) FantasyMojo – Matt Schaub, QB, Texans

MY PICK: I must have been stoned when I made this pick because I don’t remember it. Nice job by me though – Chris Cooley is good value in Round 7.

BEST PICK: Ray Rice is the starting running back in Baltimore, and he’s definitely an awesome seventh-round selection in PPR formats.

WORST PICK: Willis McGahee, meanwhile, is not. The only reason McGahee is still on the roster is because it would be too expensive for Baltimore to cut him. McGahee was phased out toward the end of last season, and he’s not going to see many carries in 2009.

ROUND 8:

(1) FantasyMojo – Donnie Avery, WR, Rams
(2) UltimateFFStrategy – Cedric Benson, RB, Bengals
(3) FantasyPros911 – Lance Moore, WR, Saints
(4) FantasyGuru – Owen Daniels, TE, Texans
(5) FantasyFootballSearch – Trent Edwards, QB, Bills
(6) Fantasy Football Trader – Torry Holt, WR, Jaguars
(7) WalterFootball.com – Kevin Walter, WR, Texans
(8) Global Sports Fraternity – Ted Ginn Jr., WR, Dolphins
(9) FightingChanceFantasy – Greg Olsen, TE, Bears
(10) BFD Fantasy Football – Leon Washington, RB, Jets
(11) TheFootballExpert – Steve Breaston, WR, Cardinals
(12) ProFSA – Carson Palmer, QB, Bengals

ANALYSIS: I played in six leagues last year, and I’m pretty sure Kevin Walter was on almost all of my teams. I like him as a WR3.

MY PICK: Carson Palmer, Lance Moore and Torry Holt were all solid selections here.

WORST PICK: Not sure what sort of drugs were involved when FantasyFootballSearch took Trent Edwards off the board, but it had to have been a lot stronger than crack.

ROUND 9:

(1) ProFSA – Ahmad Bradshaw RB, Giants
(2) TheFootballExpert – Jamal Lewis, RB, Browns
(3) BFD Fantasy Football – Tim Hightower, RB, Cardinals
(4) FightingChanceFantasy – Mark Bradley, WR, Chiefs
(5) Global Sports Fraternity – Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Steelers
(6) WalterFootball.com – Donald Driver, WR, Packers
(7) Fantasy Football Trader – Josh Morgan, WR, 49ers
(8) FantasyFootballSearch – Steelers Defense
(9) FantasyGuru – LeSean McCoy, RB, Eagles
(10) FantasyPros911 – Michael Bush, RB, Raiders
(11) UltimateFFStrategy – Zach Miller, TE, Raiders
(12) FantasyMojo – Julius Jones, RB, Seahawks

MY PICK: Donald Driver makes for a solid WR4, but in hindsight, I wish I would have taken David Garrard or Matt Cassel. I’ll explain why later.

BEST PICK: Bravo to Fantasy Football Trader for selecting San Francisco’s top wideout three rounds after another receiver of theirs was taken off the board.

WORST PICK: I don’t think Mark Bradley’s new owner is going to have much of a fighting chance. Oh wait, I already used that joke already. Damn it.

ROUND 10:

(1) FantasyMojo – Matt Cassel, QB, Chiefs
(2) UltimateFFStrategy – David Garrard, QB, Jaguars
(3) FantasyPros911 – John Carlson, TE, Seahawks
(4) FantasyGuru – Mark Clayton, WR, Ravens
(5) FantasyFootballSearch – Percy Harvin, WR, Vikings
(6) Fantasy Football Trader – Jerious Norwood, RB, Falcons
(7) WalterFootball.com – Fred Jackson, RB, Bills
(8) Global Sports Fraternity – Steve Smith, WR, Giants
(9) FightingChanceFantasy – Eli Manning, QB, Giants
(10) BFD Fantasy Football – Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Steelers
(11) TheFootballExpert – Chester Taylor, RB, Vikings
(12) ProFSA – Brent Celek, TE, Eagles

MY PICK: Fred Jackson has a decent chance of taking half of Marshawn Lynch’s carries this season. If that happens, Jackson is a much better value than Lynch in a league like this because he also catches a lot of passes.

BEST PICK: To anyone who took a quarterback off the board, I salute you. Again, I’ll explain later. Chester Taylor was also a decent selection.

WORST PICK: Percy Harvin. Don’t think he’s going to do anything fantasy-wise this year.

ROUND 11:

(1) ProFSA – Fred Taylor, RB, Patriots
(2) TheFootballExpert – Le’Ron McClain, RB, Ravens
(3) BFD Fantasy Football – Kyle Orton, QB, Broncos
(4) FightingChanceFantasy – Sidney Rice, WR, Vikings
(5) Global Sports Fraternity – Giants Defense
(6) WalterFootball.com – Ravens Defense
(7) Fantasy Football Trader – Eagles Defense
(8) FantasyFootballSearch – Dustin Keller, TE, Jets
(9) FantasyGuru – Jamaal Charles, RB, Chiefs
(10) FantasyPros911 – Vikings Defense
(11) UltimateFFStrategy – Domenik Hixon, WR, Giants
(12) FantasyMojo – Earl Bennett, WR, Bears

MY PICK: In a league like this, you need two or three really good defenses, so I just grabbed one of the league’s best stop units in Round 11.

BEST PICK: I considered the PPR-friendly Jamaal Charles, but already had too many running backs.

WORST PICK: I can’t really argue anything here. It’s a bit early for Earl Bennett for my taste.

ROUND 12:

(1) FantasyMojo – Nate Burleson, WR, Seahawks
(2) UltimateFFStrategy – Jason Campbell, QB, Redskins
(3) FantasyPros911 – Laurence Maroney, RB, Patriots
(4) FantasyGuru – Miles Austin, WR, Cowboys
(5) FantasyFootballSearch – Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Seahawks
(6) Fantasy Football Trader – Shaun Hill, QB, 49ers
(7) WalterFootball.com – Earnest Graham, RB, Buccaneers
(8) Global Sports Fraternity – Shonn Greene, RB, Jets
(9) FightingChanceFantasy – Bears Defense
(10) BFD Fantasy Football – Jake Delhomme, QB, Panthers
(11) TheFootballExpert – Deion Branch, WR, Seahawks
(12) ProFSA – Jets Defense

MY PICK: Earnest Graham wasn’t crossed off my cheat sheet, so I had to make sure he was still on the board. I really couldn’t believe it when I saw he was available; there’s no guarantee that Derrick Ward is going to get the starting job, and even if he does, Graham will receive the goal-line carries.

BEST PICK: Once again, the guys who took a quarterback had the foresight I didn’t have. Rest assured, I’ll explain later. Shonn Greene was also a great pick.

WORST PICK: Boo earns to the Football Expert for taking too much time with this pick. In this draft, he let the timer run down repeatedly, prompting the next few teams to enter in their selections quickly so he couldn’t get those players. It was like the Minnesota Vikings’ old front office was in our league.

ROUND 13:

(1) ProFSA – Kevin Faulk, RB, Patriots
(2) TheFootballExpert – Marc Bulger, QB, Rams
(3) BFD Fantasy Football – Chris Henry, WR, Bengals
(4) FightingChanceFantasy – Jeremy Maclin, WR, Eagles
(5) Global Sports Fraternity – Joe Flacco, QB, Ravens
(6) WalterFootball.com – Brady Quinn, QB, Browns
(7) Fantasy Football Trader – Kevin Curtis, WR, Eagles
(8) FantasyFootballSearch – Packers Defense
(9) FantasyGuru – Mike Walker, WR, Jaguars
(10) FantasyPros911 – Hakeem Nicks, WR, Giants
(11) UltimateFFStrategy – Chad Pennington, QB, Dolphins
(12) FantasyMojo – Greg Camarillo, WR, Dolphins

MY PICK: Brady Quinn!? I said I’ll explain… I knew I had to get multiple quarterbacks in a league like this, but I didn’t realize how desperate the situation would be. There were absolutely no other signal-callers available, so I got stuck with Quinn as my No. 2. So, if Peyton Manning has a bad week or gets hurt, I’m stuck with Quinn and I can’t do anything about it. If you look up self-debaclation in the dictionary, you’ll see a picture of my draft.

BEST PICK: I was going to take Joe Flacco, but Global Sports Fraternity stole him one pick before me.

WORST PICK: Packers defense? With the team transitioning to the 3-4, I wouldn’t be taking them in any fantasy drafts.

ROUND 14:

(1) FantasyMojo – Chargers Defense
(2) UltimateFFStrategy – Jeremy Shockey, TE, Saints
(3) FantasyPros911 – Patrick Crayton, WR, Cowboys
(4) FantasyGuru – Tashard Choice, RB, Cowboys
(5) FantasyFootballSearch – Justin Gage, WR, Titans
(6) Fantasy Football Trader – Jerome Harrison, RB, Browns
(7) WalterFootball.com – Brett Favre, QB, Vikings?
(8) Global Sports Fraternity – Vernon Davis, TE, 49ers
(9) FightingChanceFantasy – Chris Chambers, WR, Chargers
(10) BFD Fantasy Football – Kevin Boss, TE, Giants
(11) TheFootballExpert – Joey Galloway, WR, Patriots
(12) ProFSA – Stephen Gostkowski, K, Patriots

MY PICK: Ha! Everyone forgot about Brett Favre because he’s not listed on any cheat sheets. Or maybe no one took him because he’ll suck. It’s a 14th-round gamble I had to take considering my quarterback situation.

BEST PICK: In a league like this, Tashard Choice could be huge if Marion Barber goes down again. I also like San Diego’s defense facing Oakland, Kansas City and Denver twice each.

WORST PICK: A kicker in the 14th round of a 25-round draft? I wonder if Matthew Berry would approve?

ROUND 15:

(1) ProFSA – Demetrius Williams, WR, Ravens
(2) TheFootballExpert – Bobby Engram, WR, Chiefs
(3) BFD Fantasy Football – Visanthe Shiancoe, TE, Vikings
(4) FightingChanceFantasy – Robert Meachem, WR, Saints
(5) Global Sports Fraternity – Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Raiders
(6) WalterFootball.com – Patriots Defense
(7) Fantasy Football Trader – Titans Defense
(8) FantasyFootballSearch – Dominic Rhodes, RB, Bills
(9) FantasyGuru – Devin Thomas, WR, Redskins
(10) FantasyPros911 – Cowboys Defense
(11) UltimateFFStrategy – Nate Washington, WR, Titans
(12) FantasyMojo – Heath Miller, TE, Steelers

MY PICK: I like how the Patriots get potentially a pair of first-year quarterbacks twice this season (Mark Sanchez, Chad Henne). The Bills also never put up much of a fight against New England. That could be six high-scoring games from my defense.

BEST PICK: If Derrick Mason retires, ProFSA is getting a starting wideout in Round 15. You don’t see that too often.

WORST PICK: Dominic Rhodes isn’t going to contribute much this year. There were better backup running backs available like Justin Fargas and Ricky Williams.

ROUND 16:

(1) FantasyMojo – Correll Buckhalter, RB, Broncos
(2) UltimateFFStrategy – Muhsin Muhammad, WR, Panthers
(3) FantasyPros911 – Tony Scheffler, TE, Broncos
(4) FantasyGuru – Maurice Morris, RB, Lions
(5) FantasyFootballSearch – Marvin Harrison, WR, FA
(6) Fantasy Football Trader – Anthony Fasano, TE, Dolphins
(7) WalterFootball.com – Brian Robiskie, WR, Browns
(8) Global Sports Fraternity – Ricky Williams, RB, Dolphins
(9) FightingChanceFantasy – Cardinals Defense
(10) BFD Fantasy Football – Justin Fargas, RB, Raiders
(11) TheFootballExpert – Seahawks Defense
(12) ProFSA – Kerry Collins, QB, Titans

MY PICK: A round ago, I mentioned that finding starting receivers in Round 15 is really rare. Well, how about Round 16? Brian Robiskie will be Brady Quinn’s No. 2 wideout.

BEST PICK: Justin Fargas and Ricky Williams are an injury away from starting, unlike Dominic Rhodes.

WORST PICK: With depth being a huge factor in this league, I don’t think wasting a mid-round selection on Marvin Harrison was a wise move. Even if someone signs him, there’s no guarantee he’ll be remotely effective.

ROUND 17:

(1) ProFSA – Juaquin Iglesias, WR, Bears
(2) TheFootballExpert – Matt Stafford, QB, Lions
(3) BFD Fantasy Football – Mewelde Moore, RB, Steelers
(4) FightingChanceFantasy – Ladell Betts, RB, Redskins
(5) Global Sports Fraternity – Kenny Britt, WR, Titans
(6) WalterFootball.com – Davone Bess, WR, Dolphins
(7) Fantasy Football Trader – Matt Leinart, QB, Cardinals
(8) FantasyFootballSearch – Sammy Morris, RB, Patriots
(9) FantasyGuru – Dolphins Defense
(10) FantasyPros911 – Michael Jenkins, WR, Falcons
(11) UltimateFFStrategy – Buccaneers Defense
(12) FantasyMojo – JaMarcus Russell, QB, Raiders

MY PICK: Davone Bess tore up PPR leagues last year. Here’s to hoping he does so again.

BEST PICK: Mewelde Moore was a great pick in the 17th round. He caught all of the passes last year, so he should still be a factor in PPR formats.

WORST PICK: Tampa Bay might have the worst defense in the NFL. It’s incredible how they’re still being ranked in the teens in fantasy mags. By the way, I’ll have my ESPN and Sporting News fantasy magazine review up soon.

ROUND 18:

(1) FantasyMojo – Devery Henderson, WR, Saints
(2) UltimateFFStrategy – Redskins Defense
(3) FantasyPros911 – Brandon Jackson, RB, Packers
(4) FantasyGuru – Mark Sanchez, QB, Jets
(5) FantasyFootballSearch – Johnnie Lee Higgins, WR, Raiders
(6) Fantasy Football Trader – James Jones, WR, Packers
(7) WalterFootball.com – T.J. Duckett, RB, Seahawks
(8) Global Sports Fraternity – Texans Defense
(9) FightingChanceFantasy – Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Lions
(10) BFD Fantasy Football – Bengals Defense
(11) TheFootballExpert – Colts Defense
(12) ProFSA – Rashad Jennings, RB, Jaguars

MY PICK: T.J. Duckett may be an obese slob, but he’s getting all of the goal-line carries in Seattle this year. He scored eight touchdowns with an anemic offense in 2008. If everyone stays healthy, he could put up a double-digit scoring total.

BEST PICK: Brandon Jackson, not Ryan Grant, is Green Bay’s third-down back. He gets most of the catches, making him a steal in Round 18.

WORST PICK: We don’t count return yards, so I have no idea why anyone would take Johnnie Lee Higgins.

ROUND 19:

(1) ProFSA – Harry Douglas, WR, Falcons
(2) TheFootballExpert – Bo Scaife, TE, Titans
(3) BFD Fantasy Football – Bills Defense
(4) FightingChanceFantasy – James Davis, RB, Browns
(5) Global Sports Fraternity – Plaxico Burress, WR, FA
(6) WalterFootball.com – Chaz Schilens, WR, Raiders
(7) Fantasy Football Trader – Todd Heap, TE, Ravens
(8) FantasyFootballSearch – Limas Sweed, WR, Steelers
(9) FantasyGuru – Randy McMichael, TE, Rams
(10) FantasyPros911 – Donald Lee, TE, Packers
(11) UltimateFFStrategy – LaMont Jordan, RB, Broncos
(12) FantasyMojo – L.J. Smith, TE, Ravens

MY PICK: Chaz Schilens could lead the Raiders in receiving yardage. I know that’s like saying I’m dating the hottest girl at an Oreos convention, but it’s the 19th round.

BEST PICK: I’m pretty sure I was going to take James Davis. There’s a chance he could start for the Browns.

WORST PICK: I’ve been criticizing everyone else, so I’m going to say I had the worst pick of this round… just because I don’t want karma to debacle me.

ROUND 20:

(1) FantasyMojo – Malcolm Floyd, WR, Chargers
(2) UltimateFFStrategy – Chansi Stuckey, WR, Jets
(3) FantasyPros911 – Glen Coffee, RB, 49ers
(4) FantasyGuru – Kevin Jones, RB, Bears
(5) FantasyFootballSearch – Rob Bironas, K, Titans
(6) Fantasy Football Trader – Andre Brown, RB, Giants
(7) WalterFootball.com – Edgerrin James, RB, FA
(8) Global Sports Fraternity – Jaguars Defense
(9) FightingChanceFantasy – Bryant Johnson, WR, Lions
(10) BFD Fantasy Football – Jabar Gaffney, WR, Broncos
(11) TheFootballExpert – Ronald Curry, WR, Lions
(12) ProFSA – Falcons Defense

MY PICK: Edgerrin James will sign with someone in August or September. The team he signs with will need him because of an injury. And hopefully that team has a very good offensive line, so James can rush for 2,000 yards. I’m being just a bit optimistic here.

BEST PICK: The 49ers didn’t use a third-round pick on Glen Coffee so he could sit around and do nothing. He’ll take some of Frank Gore’s touches and become the starter if there’s an injury.

WORST PICK: Six rounds later, and someone else finally took a kicker. It’s still way too early.

ROUND 21:

(1) ProFSA – Jermichael Finley, TE, Packers
(2) TheFootballExpert – Martellus Bennett, TE, Cowboys
(3) BFD Fantasy Football – Saints Defense
(4) FightingChanceFantasy – Jeff Garcia, QB, Raiders
(5) Global Sports Fraternity – Isaac Bruce, WR, 49ers
(6) WalterFootball.com – Raiders Defense
(7) Fantasy Football Trader – Sage Rosenfails, QB, Vikings
(8) FantasyFootballSearch – Pick Forfeited
(9) FantasyGuru – Jordy Nelson, WR, Packers
(10) FantasyPros911 – Jason Hill, WR, 49ers
(11) UltimateFFStrategy – David Akers, K, Eagles
(12) FantasyMojo – Panthers Defense

MY PICK: The Raiders have good special teams and the top cornerback in the league. They’ll also beat up on Denver and Kansas City twice each.

BEST PICK: A very “blah” round. Nothing really stood out.

WORST PICK: FantasyFootballSearch’s timer ran down and the team never submitted a pick for that selection. Whoops!

ROUND 22:

(1) FantasyMojo – Mason Crosby, K, Packers
(2) UltimateFFStrategy – Garrett Hartley, K, Saints
(3) FantasyPros911 – Derek Anderson, QB, Browns
(4) FantasyGuru – Michael Clayton, WR, Buccaneers
(5) FantasyFootballSearch – DeDe Dorsey, RB, Bengals
(6) Fantasy Football Trader – Nate Kaeding, K, Chargers
(7) WalterFootball.com – Ben Watson, TE, Patriots
(8) Global Sports Fraternity – Robbie Gould, K, Bears
(9) FightingChanceFantasy – Ryan Longwell, K, Vikings
(10) BFD Fantasy Football – Pierre Garcon, WR, Colts
(11) TheFootballExpert – Pick Forfeited
(12) ProFSA – Nick Folk, K, Cowboys

MY PICK: I needed a backup tight end, and I was very happy to see Ben Watson still on the board. I have Watson ranked fairly high in my 2009 Fantasy Football Rankings because the Patriots finally signed a blocking tight end, meaning Watson can focus on actually running routes.

BEST PICK: Anyone who hasn’t taken a kicker yet. Matthew Berry approves.

WORST PICK: TheFootballExpert is clearly an avid reader of FantasyFootballSearch’s because they copied the same strategy. Forfeiting picks is not the answer… even taking a kicker would be a better choice!

ROUND 23:

(1) ProFSA – Laurent Robinson, WR, Rams
(2) TheFootballExpert – Daunte Culpepper, QB, Lions
(3) BFD Fantasy Football – Jason Elam, K, Falcons
(4) FightingChanceFantasy – Andre Caldwell, WR, Bengals
(5) Global Sports Fraternity – Marcedes Lewis, TE, Jaguars
(6) WalterFootball.com – Kris Brown, K, Texans
(7) Fantasy Football Trader – Antonio Pittman, RB, Rams
(8) FantasyFootballSearch – Neil Rackers, K, Cardinals
(9) FantasyGuru – John Kasay, K, Panthers
(10) FantasyPros911 – Gartrell Johnson, RB, Chargers
(11) UltimateFFStrategy – Billy Miller, TE, Saints
(12) FantasyMojo – Browns Defense

MY PICK: I liked Kris Brown enough to take him a round early. Matthew Berry does not approve.

BEST PICK: Like Ben Watson, Billy Miller isn’t a bad TE2.

WORST PICK: Browns Defense. Isn’t that an oxymoron?

ROUND 24:

(1) FantasyMojo – Leonard Weaver, RB, Eagles
(2) UltimateFFStrategy – Chris Brown, RB, Texans
(3) FantasyPros911 – John Carney, K, Giants
(4) FantasyGuru – 49ers Defense
(5) FantasyFootballSearch – Rashied Davis, WR, Bears
(6) Fantasy Football Trader – Adam Vinatieri, K, Colts
(7) WalterFootball.com – Shayne Graham, K, Bengals
(8) Global Sports Fraternity – Josh Brown, K, Rams
(9) FightingChanceFantasy – Josh Cribbs, WR, Browns
(10) BFD Fantasy Football – Martin Rucker, TE, Browns
(11) TheFootballExpert – Desmond Clark, TE, Bears
(12) ProFSA – Mike Thomas, WR, Jaguars

MY PICK: A backup kicker? Matthew Berry would strangle me until he discovered that you need one in this league (no waiver wire or free agency).

BEST PICK: TheFootballExpert made a great pick because…

WORST PICK: …I just realized that both my tight ends have the same bye week! Now, I’m going to have to draft a third tight end. I was planning on taking Desmond Clark too.

ROUND 25:

(1) ProFSA – Bernard Scott, RB, Bengals
(2) TheFootballExpert – Jason Hanson, K, Lions
(3) BFD Fantasy Football – Rian Lindell, K, Bills
(4) FightingChanceFantasy – Joe Nedney, K, 49ers
(5) Global Sports Fraternity – Ramses Barden, WR, Giants
(6) WalterFootball.com – Robert Royal, TE, Browns
(7) Fantasy Football Trader – Alex Smith, QB, 49ers
(8) FantasyFootballSearch – Peyton Hillis, RB, Broncos
(9) FantasyGuru – Austin Collie, WR, Colts
(10) FantasyPros911 – Jeff Reed, K, Steelers
(11) UltimateFFStrategy – Rams Defense
(12) FantasyMojo – Matt Prater, K, Broncos

MY PICK: So, I had to settle with Robert Royal.

BEST PICK: Austin Collie may start for the Colts. Great 25th-round selection.

WORST PICK: Speaking of starting, I’m going to have Robert Royal doing so for me on Week 8 against the Bears. Self-debaclation indeed.
