With training camp underway, there will be updates daily to this 2010 Fantasy Football Training Camp Stock page if anything noteworthy happens.
If there’s an injury or a player surprising/disappointing, I’ll let you know about it and adjust my 2010 Fantasy Football Rankings accordingly.

2010 Fantasy Football Training Camp Stock – Week of Aug. 2
AUG. 8
Arrelious Benn, WR, Buccaneers
The Tampa Tribune projects Maurice Stovall to beat out Arrelious Benn as a starting receiver opposite Mike Williams (with Sammie Stroughter in the slot). I wasn’t a big fan of Benn this year, but this is shocking because Stovall isn’t a very good player. Benn is undraftable right now.
Jason Witten, TE, Cowboys
ESPN.com is reporting that the Cowboys coaching staff plans on using Jason Witten more as a receiving threat in the red zone. Witten’s touchdown totals have never been high because he’s always been asked to block. If the team is serious about this, Witten could have a huge fantasy season in all formats; not just PPR leagues.
AUG. 7
Jermaine Gresham, TE, Bengals
Jason Cole (Yahoo! Sports) noted that Jermaine Gresham looks “lost” in training camp. The signing of Terrell Owens was already a bad enough hit to Gresham’s 2010 fantasy prospects.
Larry Johnson, RB, Redskins
ESPN’s Matt Mosley writes that he’s impressed with what he’s seen from Larry Johnson in training camp. Mosley also notes that one long-time Redskins reporter believes Johnson will have more carries than Clinton Portis this year. If you’ve been reading this site all offseason, you know that I agree; despite being a renowned scumbag, Johnson is clearly Mike Shanahan’s best option. Johnson ran well with Cincinnati toward the end of the 2009 season, while Portis is pretty much done, having eclipsed the dreaded 2,100-carry mark.
Brandon Tate, WR, Patriots
Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston predicts that Brandon Tate will be the starting receiver opposite Randy Moss, with Wes Welker in the slot. This is yet another glowing report of Tate, who has enjoyed an incredible offseason. He’s worth targeting in the late rounds as a high-upside sleeper.
AUG. 6
Austin Collie, WR, Colts
Anthony Gonzalez is running behind Austin Collie as the Colts’ slot receiver. Collie had a relatively great rookie campaign in 2009, and should be able to hold off Gonzalez.
Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Colts
Anthony Gonzalez is being used as Indianapolis’ No. 4 receiver in training camp, and he told the media that he doesn’t know what his role is. I don’t really know either; Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie seem entrenched in their positions, so Gonzalez may not see much action.
Dwayne Jarrett, WR, Panthers
Dwayne Jarrett has apparently fallen behind Brandon LaFell on the depth chart. So much for that great finish in 2009. Perhaps Jarrett should have, I don’t know, come to training camp in shape. Crazy concept, right?
Brandon LaFell, WR, Panthers
Brandon LaFell was running with the first team offense on Thursday. ESPN, meanwhile, reports that Carolina’s coaching staff believes LaFell is the best No. 2 option on the roster. LaFell has had an amazing training camp thus far, and if he can parlay that into an impressive preseason performance, he’ll be worth looking at as a late-round sleeper.
AUG. 5
Knowshon Moreno, RB, Broncos
Knowshon Moreno is expected back for the second preseason game after a scary injury a few days ago. This should quell any current concerns, but Moreno has shown that he’s pretty injury-prone thus far in his young career.
Santana Moss, WR, Redskins
Roger Goodell told the Washington Post that no suspension for Santana Moss is forthcoming in the wake of his HGH allegations. This is great news given how thin the receivers are this year. Moss is safe to draft as a low WR2, high WR3.
Shawn Nelson, TE, Bills
Boston Globe reporter Albert Breer has written that the Bills have “big plans” for Shawn Nelson. Nelson’s a talented player in a tight end-friendly offense, and aside from Lee Evans, Buffalo lacks a playmaker in its receiving corps. Nelson could emerge as Trent Edwards/Ryan Fitzpatrick’s No. 2 target.
Sidney Rice, WR, Vikings
Forget all the Brett Favre crap. Sidney Rice’s stock is down because he’s not healthy. Brad Childress told the media that Rice is a “ways away” from playing. There’s no telling how long Rice’s hip injury will keep him out.
AUG. 4
Braylon Edwards, WR, Jets
Braylon Edwards has reported to training camp overweight. Good to see that the Santonio Holmes signing really pushed him to try his hardest! Edwards just doesn’t care anymore. Don’t bother with him unless he really takes a tumble in your fantasy draft.
Johnny Knox, WR, Bears
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Johnny Knox is emerging as Chicago’s No. 1 receiver, as Jay Cutler is often targeting him in practice. We’ll see what happens during the preseason games, but for now, Knox is one of my favorite mid-round sleepers. He can be a valuable asset as a WR3 in a very thin receiver year.
Jeremy Maclin, WR, Eagles
Jeremy Maclin had to be carted off the field during Tuesday’s practice and the team held a prayer afterward. Maclin owners crapped their pants as this happened, but fortunately, Comcast Sportsnet is reporting that Maclin just suffered a bone bruise. He should be fine.
Hakeem Nicks, WR, Giants
Hakeem Nicks was one of three receivers (Jeremy Maclin, Derrick Mason) to go down with an injury on Tuesday. Like Maclin and Mason, Nicks appears to be OK. That’s what he told reporters anyway.
AUG. 3
Ahmad Bradshaw, RB, Giants
Despite there being reports that Ahmad Bradshaw is banged up, Bradshaw apparently looks as quick and spry as ever in training camp. If healthy, Bradshaw is a running back with a ton of upside given Brandon Jacobs’ injury history.
Brian Hartline, WR, Dolphins
Brian Hartline has been the starter across from Brandon Marshall in all of Miami’s practices thus far. Hartline is a talented second-year receiver with plenty of upside, who will benefit from Marshall seeing constant double teams. He’s someone to target in the final rounds of your fantasy draft.
Hakeem Nicks, WR, Giants
Hakeem Nicks lined up as a starting receiver across from Steve Smith on Monday, while Mario Manningham looks to be the team’s new punt returner. In short, no need to worry about Manningham starting over Nicks; Nicks clearly is the better talent and he’s not standing on the sidelines.
Eddie Royal, WR, Broncos
It’s hard to believe, but Josh McDaniels may actually be using Eddie Royal correctly this year. Royal has played in the slot in training camp, which would mean a bounce-back fantasy season for him. Having said that, Royal played in the slot last preseason as well, but was recast as a deep threat decoy in September. Only time will tell if McDaniels will do the logical thing and keep Royal at his natural position.
Mike Williams, WR, Buccaneers
Mike Williams has parlayed his great minicamp into an impressive start in training camp. Williams – not Arrelious Benn – is the Tampa Bay wide receiver you want. He’s worth a shot in the final rounds of your fantasy draft this summer.
Kellen Winslow Jr., TE, Buccaneers
Kellen Winslow Jr. has yet to practice. It looks like he’ll be back on the field soon, but it’s a reminder that he’s had six knee surgeries in the past five years. I’d stay away from him in the single-digit rounds. The risk is just way too great.
AUG. 2
Owen Daniels, TE, Texans
Another Owen Daniels update. Gary Kubiak admitted that his stud tight end has suffered a setback in his recovery from ACL surgery. Daniels is now a long shot to be ready by Week 1. Let someone else draft him.
Arian Foster, RB, Texans
Arian Foster has been getting the first-team reps at Texans training camp. Ben Tate could still easily win the job, but Houston’s coaching staff seems enamored with Foster at the moment. Whoever starts in the Texans’ backfield will post big numbers.
Knowshon Moreno, RB, Broncos
Though it was incorrectly reported by many people throughout the day that Knowshon Moreno tore his hamstring and would be out for a while, Moreno suffered a very slight tear and will miss three weeks. I’m going to drop Moreno’s stats just a tad; this is the second consecutive preseason he’s gotten hurt, so maybe he’s just an injury-prone player.
