2024 NFL Trades Graded by Team: Seattle Seahawks

Change Team:

This page lists all the 2024 Trades for the Seattle Seahawks. I’ve listed all of the NFL Free Agent Signing Grades here, which included the trades. Because I’ve begun posting polls for the trades, I thought it would make sense to list just the NFL trades here, so archiving the voting would be easier.

October 2024 – Trades and Signings

Seahawks acquire LB Ernest Jones from Titans for LB Jerome Baker, 4th-round pick
This trade is a bit surprising, but not because the Titans acquired Ernest Jones recently. It was unexpected because the Seahawks surrendered a fourth-round pick in what is almost a lateral move.

Jerome Baker has been a huge disappointment this year, so I can understand why Seattle wanted to move on from him. Ernest Jones will give the Seahawks a linebacker who is much better in run support. However, Jones is weaker than Baker in coverage.

I like the fit for the Seahawks because they needed someone to help in run support, but I don’t understand why a fourth-round pick had to be dealt. I could see a sixth, but a fourth is too much. The Titans definitely won this trade.

Seahawks acquire DT Roy Robertson-Harris from Jaguars for 2026 6th-round pick
There were four trades that occurred Tuesday. I graded three of them below, but missed this one, likely because I was also busy posting my NFL Picks.

This is a decent addition for the Seahawks. They’re not giving up anything of consequence to obtain a solid rotational piece for their defensive line. Roy Robertson-Harris is a Jack-of-all-trades, master-of-nothing player. He’ll be a welcome presence for a Seattle team that can’t stop the run. Meanwhile, it makes sense for the Jaguars to sell off an aging player because they obviously aren’t winning this year.

August 2024 – Trades and Signings

Bears acquire DE/OLB Darrell Taylor from Seahawks for 6th-round pick
The Bears were criticized for not obtaining an edge rusher to complement Montez Sweat this offseason, but perhaps this trade should quell any worries about the team’s ability to generate pressure on the quarterback. Chicago finally obtained someone to pair with Sweat, snatching Darrell Taylor from Seattle for a mere sixth-round pick.

This is an excellent deal for the Bears. Taylor is a big liability against the run, but he can rush the passer very well. He has 21.5 sacks in his previous three seasons despite not being a full-time player.

As for the Seahawks, I’m not quite sure why they’d move Taylor outside of wanting to begin the rebuilding process. It seems like they could have gotten more for Taylor than just a sixth-round pick, however.

Seahawks acquire LB Michael Barrett from Panthers for CB Michael Jackson
I’ll spare you the Michael Jackson jokes and discuss this trade. Michael Jackson performed well at times for the Seahawks last year. However, he’s been very inconsistent throughout his career, so he could easily regress this upcoming season. At the very least, he’ll provide adequate depth for a Carolina team that will have a chance to win the horrific NFC South if Kirk Cousins isn’t fully recovered from his Achilles tear.

The Seahawks, meanwhile, are reuniting Michael Barrett with his former coach. Barrett is a rookie, so he has more long-term potential than the 27-year-old Jackson, but he was just a seventh-round pick who was viewed as a career special-teamer.

This seems to be an even trade for both teams, as the Panthers are getting immediate help, while the Seahawks have obtained someone with more upside.

Browns acquire C Nick Harris from Seahawks for swap of 2026 late-round picks
We thought there might be a Browns trade this weekend involving Brandon Aiyuk, but that’s not the player Cleveland acquired. Nick Harris, who played for the Browns from 2020 to 2023, signed with the Seahawks this offseason, but will be returning to Cleveland via this deal.

This trade makes sense for both teams. The Browns had some depth injuries at center, so obtaining a blocker who knows the scheme and playbook makes sense at this stage of the offseason. The Seahawks, meanwhile, signed Connor Williams, so they had no use for Harris anymore.

March 2024 – Trades and Signings

Seahawks acquire QB Sam Howell from Redskins for swap of 3rd- and 4th-round picks and swap of 5th- and 6th-round picks
It’s not very surprising that the Seahawks traded for Sam Howell. They’ve reportedly been fans of Howell, and they needed a backup quarterback in the wake of Drew Lock’s departure. Ideally this quarterback would be a young player with future starting potential.

Sam Howell fits that description. He struggled late last year, but had some very bright moments at times, particularly against the Eagles. He was ultimately betrayed by his offensive line, but he could be a decent quarterback if he’s well protected. The Seahawks are giving up a bit more than I would have liked, as swapping third- and fourth-round picks is somewhat significant, but it’s not an egregious overpay.

On the other end, I love this trade for the Redskins. They have no use for Howell because they own the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. They also have a veteran backup in Marcus Mariota, so Howell wasn’t even guaranteed to make the final roster. Moving up from the fourth to the third round could allow them to secure an impactful prospect.
