Change Team:
This page lists all the 2024 Trades for the Buffalo Bills. I’ve listed all of the NFL Free Agent Signing Grades here, which included the trades. Because I’ve begun posting polls for the trades, I thought it would make sense to list just the NFL trades here, so archiving the voting would be easier.

October 2024 – Trades and Signings

Bills acquire WR Amari Cooper from Browns for 3rd-round pick, late-round pick swap
The Bills have Josh Allen, a surprisingly solid running game, and a strong defense. They had a complete team – except when it comes to the receiving corps. With Stefon Diggs gone, Buffalo’s sole viable receiving threat was Khalil Shakir, which wasn’t good enough to win a Super Bowl. Thus, no one should be surprised that the Bills pulled the trigger on this sort of trade.
Amari Cooper will be great for Allen. He’s in his 30s, but he’s one of the top route runners in the NFL, so he’ll be able to get open despite his age. He’ll be a huge upgrade at the position of greatest weakness, so he’s definitely worth a third-round pick and a swap of late-round selections.
This is a great trade for the Bills. It also makes sense for the Browns, who had to begin the rebuilding process with Deshaun Watson being such a huge failure. This will allow the Browns to lose more games, which could allow them to obtain the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Check out my 2025 NFL Mock Draft here.

April 2024 – Trades and Signings

Texans acquire WR Stefon Diggs, 2024 6th-round pick, 2025 5th-round pick from Bills for 2025 second-round pick
Teams with talented quarterbacks under rookie contracts have a huge financial advantage, and this is a primary example. The Texans are paying C.J. Stroud very little compared to the value he provides, which allows them to make a blockbuster move like this.
Trading for Stefon Diggs was unexpected. The Texans already had a strong duo in Nico Collins and Tank Dell. However, they now possess the league’s best trio of receivers with Stefon Diggs joining the group. Diggs will be a great target for Stroud, and his presence will make Collins and Dell even more potent. The compensation is fair as well; the Texans had two second-round picks in 2025, so they had the luxury of surrendering one of them. They’re also getting two third-day picks in return, which didn’t even seem necessary.
As for the Bills, this is a big disappointment for them. They’re a Super Bowl contender, but losing their primary receiver will have big consequences. Granted, this receiver draft class is phenomenal, but it’s highly unlikely that whichever wideout the Bills obtain at No. 28 will be able to match Diggs’ production this season. I can understand the Bills needing to shed Diggs’ contract with Allen being so expensive, but this trade will undoubtedly make Buffalo worse in the short term.

March 2024 – Trades and Signings

Bears acquire G/C Ryan Bates from Bills for 2024 5th-round pick
The Bears recently tried to acquire Ryan Bates in free agency, but the Bills beat them to the punch. Chicago finally got its man, acquiring Bates from Buffalo for a fifth-round pick.
This isn’t a bad trade for Chicago, but it’s a rather curious one. Bates is a solid depth player who can start at multiple positions on the offensive line. However, the Bears could have obtained someone comparable to him in free agency without surrendering any sort of draft compensation. It may have cost them more money, but they’ve got plenty of cap space.
Given the unnecessary use of resources, I can’t grade the Bears favorably. I like that they strengthened their blocking for Caleb Williams (presumably), but the Bills won this trade because they got a free draft pick out of it.
