2024 NFL Trades by Team: Arizona Cardinals

This page lists all the 2024 Trades for the Arizona Cardinals. I’ve listed all of the NFL Free Agent Signing Grades here, which included the trades. Because I’ve begun posting polls for the trades, I thought it would make sense to list just the NFL trades here, so archiving the voting would be easier.

November 2024 – Trades and Signings

Cardinals acquire DE/OLB Baron Browning from Broncos for 6th-round pick
Following Arizona’s blowout loss to the Packers a few weeks ago, there was some suspicion that the team could be sellers at the trade deadline. Things have changed quickly, however, as Arizona’s recent victories have put the team in a position to win the NFC West. Arizona, at 5-4, is currently in first place.

I like this trade for the Cardinals. They had the third-worst pressure rate entering Week 9, so they had to bolster their pass rush. Baron Browning isn’t a great player by any means, but he can get after the quarterback somewhat decently. He had 4.5 sacks last year, so he’ll be able to help Arizona rattle opposing passers.

The Broncos are an odd team to be trading players, but they were so deep on the edge that Browning was playing only about a third of the snaps. They could afford to trade Browning, so it makes sense to pick up a resource, which Denver could trade for a position of need.

August 2024 – Trades and Signings

Chiefs acquire DE Cameron Thomas from Cardinals for 7th-round pick
There are usually trades involving seventh-round picks that happen at this time in lieu of players being released. This is one such deal, as the Chiefs wanted to land Cameron Thomas before he signed elsewhere.

Thomas played about a third of the snaps for Arizona last year, but wasn’t effective. He failed to register a single sack and was sub par versus the run. However, Thomas was a third-round pick a couple of years ago, so it could be argued that he still has some potential. I like the Chiefs taking a flier on Thomas for the lowest price possible, and I don’t think it was smart for the Cardinals to just give up on Thomas.

March 2024 – Trades and Signings

Cardinals acquire QB Desmond Ridder from Falcons for WR Rondale Moore
It’s hard to believe, but the Desmond Ridder era has finally come to an end in Atlanta. I’m sure Falcons fans will fondly remember the days when Ridder would constantly fumble into the end zone.

Ridder was woeful last year. He’ll obviously make for a better backup, but I’m not even sure he can be an average backup. Perhaps the Cardinals believe they can develop him into being a solid No. 2 option behind Kyler Murray, but Arizona can’t count on winning many games if/when Murray gets hurt.

The Cardinals, however, didn’t give up much, surrendering only Rondale Moore. The 24-year-old receiver has seen his receptions drop in each of the past three seasons, as he’s looking more and more like a second-round bust. However, the Falcons have a promising offensive coordinator in Zac Robinson, so perhaps Robinson can figure out a way to utilize Moore. I think Atlanta has more upside in this trade, but this is a swap that could very easily become insignificant for both parties.
