2023 Fantasy Football Busts
2023 Fantasy Football Busts (May 19):
This is a list of my top 2023 fantasy football busts - players you should avoid unless they fall far in your draft. The Average Draft Position (ADP) is found on FantasyPros.com, FantasyFootballCalculator.com, or FantasyPoints.com. I was dead on with some of my busts over the past four years. My top busts for 2019 were Antonio Brown and Todd Gurley. I had some misses as well, but Brown and Gurley were two players I didn't want to select in the top three rounds. Last year, I asked everyone to avoid Saquon Barkley and Myles Gaskin, though there were two misses.
-
Jonathan Taylor, RB, Colts. ADP: 1.09.
Jonathan Taylor was a bust last year, and he could be one again in 2023. The reason Taylor busted was because his offensive line regressed. Unless the Colts fix this area in the draft - they didn't do so in free agency - Taylor will once again have issues finding running room.
-
Breece Hall, RB, Jets. ADP: 3.04.
I love Breece Hall as a player, but he's coming off a torn ACL. I don't trust running backs and receivers returning from this injury. It's not a guarantee that Hall will struggle, but history suggests he will.
-
Cooper Kupp, WR, Rams. ADP: 1.07.
Cooper Kupp turns 30 this summer, but this designation is more about Matthew Stafford than Kupp. Stafford is coming off an elbow injury, so he may not be 100 percent this year. Even if he is, he'll be hurt by his team's poor offensive line. This will obviously affect Kupp's performances. I still like Kupp, but it's hard to trust him in the first round.
-
Javonte Williams, RB, Broncos. ADP: 6.11.
Like Breece Hall, Javonte Williams is a talented running back who is coming off a torn ACL. It doesn't sound like Williams will be ready for the season opener, so I couldn't ever imagine drafting him in the sixth round this year.
-
Joe Mixon, RB, Bengals. ADP: 4.11.
Joe Mixon looked like he was running in quicksand at times last year. There's also a chance he could get cut or be suspended as a result of off-the-field actions.
-
Tyler Lockett, WR, Seahawks. ADP: 6.12.
There are some questions surrounding Tyler Lockett. Will Geno Smith be able to perform like he did last year, or was that a fluke? Also, will Lockett regress at all because he's set to turn 31 soon? Then, there's the fact that Jaxon Smith-Njigba will steal some targets.
