There will be many more 2010 Fantasy Football Rankings and features in the late spring and summer, including tons of 2010 Fantasy Football Mock Drafts, Player Rankings, Sleepers and Busts. I’ll also have an extensive 2010 NFL Fantasy Football Preseason Stock Report.
2010 Fantasy Football Rankings – Top 91-100 (May 21):
- Darren Sproles, RB, Chargers
Darren Sproles will once again be San Diego’s third-down back. He’s a solid flex player in PPR leagues because of his high reception totals, but he’s not nearly as valuable in other formats. Sproles just doesn’t get the carries or the red-zone work. I expect about 900 total yards and half-a-dozen touchdowns (he had 840 yards and seven touchdowns last season.)
- Donald Brown, RB, Colts
Wasn’t Joseph Addai supposed to be the injury-prone player? That was one frustrating thing that happened last year – the wrong running back got hurt. Brown looked like he was picking up more touches each week before suffering an injury in the St. Louis game. Brown came back later in the season, but was never a big part of the offense (he had five touches in the Super Bowl).
Brown will likely become a larger part of the offense in his sophomore campaign, so he’s definitely worth owning. And who knows, maybe Addai will live up to his fragile reputation.
- Fred Jackson, RB, Bills
It appears as though C.J. Spiller will be seeing tons of action in the slot, which means Fred Jackson should still be the primary ball-carrier. I’ll feel a lot better about Jackson if the Bills part ways with Marshawn Lynch, which would mean that Jackson would see all the rare goal-line opportunities. If Lynch isn’t part of the equation, Jackson should be able to approach 200 or so carries, but won’t come close to matching last year’s reception total of 46.
- Zach Miller, TE, Raiders
Zach Miller has topped 775 receiving yards the past two seasons (66 catches, 805 yards in 2009), but his fantasy value has always been curbed because Oakland just wasn’t in the red zone that often. That will change with Jason Campbell at quarterback. Whether it was Chris Cooley or Fred Davis, Campbell loved feeding the ball to his tight end in Washington. I see no reason why that would change in Oakland.
- Tony Gonzalez, TE, Falcons
Tony Gonzalez caught 83 balls for 867 yards and six touchdowns last year. But those are poor numbers by Gonzalez’s standards. In fact, that yardage total was his lowest since 2002. Gonzalez is now 34, and I’m concerned because he had just eight receptions for 79 yards and one score in the final three weeks of the 2009 season. His name and reputation will likely cause him to be overdrafted in most leagues. I’d proceed with caution.
- Santonio Holmes, WR, Jets
With Mark Sanchez entering his second year and Santonio Holmes in the mix, the Jets will be throwing much more this season compared to 2009. Holmes should be good for about 50 receptions, 800 yards and 4-5 touchdowns. This, of course, factors in his four-game suspension. If you draft him, you won’t have his services for nearly a third of your regular season.
- Laurence Maroney, RB, Patriots
The Patriots for some reason didn’t draft a running back, so it’s the usual suspects again: Laurence Maroney, Fred Taylor, Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk. Maroney scored nine touchdowns in 2009, but was benched for his fumbling problems in Week 16, and saw only one carry the following two games. Bill Belichick was fed up with Maroney at the time, but maybe he’ll be more confident that his running back spent the offseason working on his issues. If so, Maroney will be the favorite to start, which could mean double-digit touchdowns if he holds on to the ball (and his job).
- Kellen Winslow Jr., TE, Buccaneers
Kellen Winslow Jr. was the top receiver on the Buccaneers last year, catching 77 passes for 884 yards and five touchdowns. He’s a very good TE1, but there are some risks involved. Winslow just had arthroscopic knee surgery, which marks the fifth time in six years that he’s had an operation on his knees. Also, the arrival of Arrelious Benn and Mike Williams means that Winslow’s targets will dip just a bit.
- Owen Daniels, TE, Texans
Major risk-reward situation. In seven games last year, Owen Daniels caught 39 balls for 497 yards and five touchdowns, which means he was on pace for 89 receptions, 1,136 yards and 11 scores. Unfortunately, he tore his ACL in early November. All early reports are positive that Daniels will be ready for the season opener. If he were completely healthy, he would obviously be slotted much higher than this, but he’s definitely worth a mid-round flier.
- Chaz Schilens, WR, Raiders
I liked Chaz Schilens as a late-round sleeper last year, but he suffered an injury in the preseason and didn’t play until Week 10. Schilens had 29 catches for 365 yards and two touchdowns in eight games. He’s coming off foot surgery, but if he’s OK, he’ll be a sleeper of mine again. Schilens is a talented wideout and will really benefit from Oakland’s upgrade at quarterback.
