2015 NFL Combine: Weigh-In Recap – Quarterbacks
By Charlie Campbell – @draftcampbell

  • The quarterback who may have helped himself the most at the weigh-in was Oregon’s Marcus Mariota. At 6-foot-4, 222 pounds, Mariota looks as if he has added some weight to his frame, as there had been some concerns that Mariota was too slight; most believed that he was playing around 210 pounds. Mariota also had quality sized hands at 9 7/8 inches.

  • The favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick is Florida State’s Jameis Winston (6-4, 231), who showed his sturdy frame with quality size hands of 9 3/8 inches. Winston is very similar to where Blake Bortles (6-5, 232) measured last year. It will be interesting to see how Winston’s conditioning and throwing looks at the Combine.

  • UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley had bigger hands (10 1/2 inches) than Winston or Mariota, but Hundley was shorter. Hundley (6-3, 226) should impress at the Combine, as he is a speedy athlete. He also has the arm to look good throwing on the field. Hundley needs a strong Combine, Pro Day, and team interview performance to have any hope of getting some team to take him in the first round. A good Combine could help Hundley to go on Day 2.

  • After the Senior Bowl, there was no mystery about Garrett Grayson’s height and weight. Grayson (6-2, 213) did have nicely sized hands at 10 inches. He is in the running with Hundley and Baylor’s Bryce Petty to be the third quarterback drafted.

  • Like Grayson, Petty (6-3, 230) was at the Senior Bowl, and he has quality size to be an NFL quarterback. Petty showed athleticism at Baylor, so he should do well in the field drills at the Combine.

  • South Alabama quarterback Brandon Bridge has gotten some buzz, and he showed off the body of an NFL quarterback. At 6-foot-4, 229 pounds, Bridge has the height and bulk of a starter. His hand size (9 1/2 inches) is adequate enough as well.

  • Oregon State quarterback Sean Mannion (6-6, 229) has good size to him, so it is surprising that he has some of the smaller hands (9 inches). Mannion didn’t impress at the Senior Bowl, so he needs to perform better at the Combine to help his chances of being a day-three pick.

  • Washington State quarterback Connor Halliday put up some big numbers in Mike Leach’s college offense, but he really isn’t considered to be an NFL prospect. Halliday gave further proof of that with the smallest hands of any quarterback (8 3/8 inches).
