2015 NFL Combine: Weigh-In Recap – Tight Ends
By Charlie Campbell – @draftcampbell

  • Minnesota’s Maxx Williams is the consensus top tight end, and he hit the expected numbers at 6-foot-4, 249 pounds. That is almost identical to last year’s top tight end, Eric Ebron (6-4, 250). Williams is a talented athlete with good speed, so he could impress in the field drills. It wouldn’t be surprising if Williams generates more first-round buzz after his workout in Indianapolis.

  • Miami tight end Clive Walford (6-4, 251) stayed consistent with his Senior Bowl weigh-in. Walford had an excellent Senior Bowl week to send a charge into his draft stock. Walford has surprising athleticism, so he could continue his upward climb with a strong performance at the Combine.

  • South Alabama tight end Wes Saxton is an intriguing prospect who is said to have some speed and athleticism. Saxton (6-3, 248) had injury issues, so getting a green light out of the medical checks is important. In a weak tight end class, Saxton has the chance to move up with a good performance.

  • Florida State tight end Nick O’Leary bailed on the Senior Bowl. O’Leary (6-3, 252) was a few pounds heavier, and it was good that he wasn’t smaller than listed. O’Leary needs an impressive Combine in order to be a second-round pick.

  • Rutgers tight end Tyler Kroft (6-6, 246) was six pounds heavier than listed. If he can continue to add some weight, that would make him flexible to possibly be a Y tight end or a move tight end.

  • South Carolina tight end Rory Anderson (6-5, 244) tied Louisville’s Gerald Christian to be the lightest tight end at the Combine. Anderson has gone under the radar, but flashed the potential to be a dangerous receiver. Anderson has the skill set to be a Combine standout.
