2011 Fantasy Football Rankings - Wide Receivers (Sept. 5):
Top 10 | 11-20 | 21-40 | 41-60 | 61-80 | 81-100

  1. Arrelious Benn, WR, Buccaneers. Bye: 8.
Arrelious Benn (or Arcrilious Bean, as Body Burners would say) is coming off ACL surgery, so there’s no reason to believe that he’ll be worthy of a spot on fantasy rosters this year.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 35 catches. 530 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 71.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 106.

  2. Donnie Avery, WR, Rams. Bye: 5.
Donnie Avery suffered a season-ending knee injury in the preseason last year. It was really UGLY. Avery’s knee buckled, prompting Patriots color commentator Randy Cross to say, “Your leg’s not supposed to wobble like that.” Avery is just snake-bitten. He can’t stay healthy, which is a shame because he’s very talented.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 40 catches. 500 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 68.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 108.

  3. Torrey Smith, WR, Ravens. Bye: 5.
I’d like Torrey Smith a lot more if there was no lockout. Smith is in a good situation because all of Baltimore’s receivers suck, but even with that in mind, he may not enter the lineup until the second half of the season.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 35 catches. 500 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 68.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 103.

  4. Jerricho Cotchery, WR, Steelers. Bye: 11.
AUG. 1 UPDATE: With Plaxico Burress slated to start for the Jets, Jerricho Cotchery will reprise his role in the slot. He’s no longer draftable in fantasy leagues.

Jerricho Cotchery struggled in 2010. He was the third receiver on the roster, and consequently had just 41 receptions for 433 yards and two touchdowns. Cotchery also suffered through a herniated disc; he had surgery on it this offseason. Cotchery will be healthy again in 2011, and he’ll probably be the No. 2 wideout again. Expect a bounce-back season.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 50 catches. 550 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 67.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 117.

  5. Eddie Royal, WR, Broncos. Bye: 6.
What happened to the guy who caught 91 passes for 980 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie? Eddie Royal doesn’t have much of a chance of returning to 2008 form, considering that he collected just two receptions for 22 yards in Tim Tebow’s three starts. To be fair, Royal was hampered by a hip injury in those contests, so maybe he’ll surprise us all. But probably not.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 49 catches. 540 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 66.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 115.

  6. Danario Alexander, WR, Rams. Bye: 5.
AUG. 23 UPDATE: You can drop Danario Alexander if you have him. I don’t know why he’s not seeing the field at all. It’s really disappointing.

AUG. 15 UPDATE: Danario Alexander caught three passes for 43 yards in the preseason premiere – all from A.J. Feeley. I don’t know what he has to do to earn a spot in the starting lineup, but if Josh McDaniels doesn’t like him, there might not be anything he can do about it.

Danario Alexander is a very talented receiver, but went undrafted last year because of major knee issues. Alexander showed some play-making ability in 2010, but missed some action because of his knees. Alexander says he’s healthy now. If he can stay in the lineup, he could put up huge numbers for the Rams. Just look at what Brandon Lloyd did in Josh McDaniels’ offense in 2010.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 37 catches. 480 yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 66.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 103.

  7. Dexter McCluster, WR, Chiefs. Bye: 6.
Dexter McCluster could be worth a roster spot in return leagues. Otherwise, don’t bother.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 34 catches. 375 rec. yards. 100 rush. yards. 3 total TDs.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 65.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 99.

  8. Brandon LaFell, WR, Panthers. Bye: 9.
David Gettis is out for the year, which will give Brandon LaFell an opportunity to be mediocre.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 35 catches. 450 yards. 3 total TD.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 63.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 98.

  9. Jabar Gaffney, WR, Redskins. Bye: 5.
Demaryius Thomas tore his Achillies, so Jabar Gaffney will remain Denver’s No. 2 receiver. For now, anyway. Tim Tebow and Gaffney didn’t appear to have good chemistry last year; Gaffney caught just six balls in Tebow’s three starts.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 38 catches. 500 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 62.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 100.

  10. Titus Young, WR, Lions. Bye: 5.
I like Titus Young’s long-term fantasy prospects, but the lockout makes his 2011 outlook pretty cloudy. He may not get much playing time until 2012.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 26 catches. 460 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 58.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 84.

  11. Devery Henderson, WR, Saints. Bye: 11.
Devery Henderson will only be a factor if the Saints lose Lance Moore in free agency. Even then, he’s not much of a fantasy receiver.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 30 catches. 450 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 57.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 87.

  12. Steve Breaston, WR, Chiefs. Bye: 6.
Steve Breaston has major knee issues. If the Cardinals retain him, he’ll lose targets to the emerging Andre Roberts. If Breaston signs with another team, he’ll undoubtedly struggle, given that non-elite receivers usually have a tough transition when changing franchises.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 32 catches. 460 yards. 1 total TD.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 52.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 84.

  13. Patrick Crayton, WR, Chargers. Bye: 6.
AUG. 6 UPDATE: So much for Patrick Crayton flying under the radar as Philip Rivers’ potential No. 2 receiver. Malcom Floyd has re-signed with San Diego.

Patrick Crayton really stepped up in the middle of the year when Philip Rivers had no one else to throw to. In back-to-back weeks, Crayton hauled in a combined 13 receptions for 199 yards. Crayton will be Rivers’ tertiary option behind Antonio Gates and Vincent Jackson if Malcom Floyd leaves via free agency.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 24 catches. 400 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 52.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 76.

  14. Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Raiders. Bye: 8.
Just because Darrius Heyward-Bey is a “great playa” in real life doesn’t mean he’s a great fantasy playa. Don’t bother.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 29 catches. 400 yards. 2 total TDs.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 52.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 81.

  15. Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Colts. Bye: 11.
Will Anthony Gonzalez ever play? It’s a shame that his career has been ruined by a multitude of injuries.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 30 catches. 400 yards. 1 total TD.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 46.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 76.

  16. Leonard Hankerson, WR, Redskins. Bye: 5.
For those crazy enough to consider Leonard Hankerson as a late-round sleeper, you may want to take a chance on another flier. Hankerson, currently listed behind Jabar Gaffney on the depth chart, is having major issues with drops in training camp. Mike Shanahan isn’t going to use Hankerson until he’s comfortable with him.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 25 catches. 380 yards. 1 total TD.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 44.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 69.

  17. Tandon Doss, WR, Ravens. Bye: 5.
Tandon Doss could be a really good receiver for the Ravens down the road, but he’ll have trouble contributing this season because of the stupid lockout.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 20 catches. 275 yards. 1 total TD.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 33.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 53.

  18. Steve Smith, WR, Eagles. Bye: 7.
Steve Smith had microfracture knee surgery this offseason. Pro Football Weekly indicated that he could start the year on the PUP list. Even if he’s somehow ready for the season opener, he’ll have no explosion; at least not this year. Avoid him at all cost.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 25 catches. 250 yards. 1 total TD.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 31.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 56.

  19. Demaryius Thomas, WR, Broncos. Bye: 6.
Demaryius Thomas is coming off a torn Achilles. The earliest he’ll be able to play is the middle of October, but he may not be completely effective until 2012.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 15 catches. 200 yards. 0 total TDs.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 20.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 35.

  20. Terrell Owens, WR, TBA. Bye: TBA.
Terrell Owens tore his ACL filming Eating Cereal with the Stars. It’s doubtful that he’ll ever play another snap in the NFL. I mean, if the Bills and Bengals don’t want him when he’s healthy, who would be willing to take an aging, egomaniac receiver coming off a major knee injury?

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 0 catches. 0 yards. 0 total TDs.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 0.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 0.

  21. David Gettis, WR, Panthers. Bye: 9.
David Gettis is out for the year with a torn ACL.

Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 0 catches. 0 yards. 0 total TDs.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 0.
Projected 2011 PPR Fantasy Points: 0.
