2011 Fantasy Football Rankings: Kickers

These 2011 Fantasy Football Kickers Rankings will be updated often throughout the summer, so make sure you check back from time to time. Also, be sure to check out my other 2011 Fantasy Football articles, which will include sleepers, busts, tons of 2011 Fantasy Football mock drafts and other material.

Updated 6/26

  1. Sebastian Janikowski, K, Raiders. Bye: 8.
Sebastian Janikowski is the No. 1 fantasy kicker for two reasons. First, Jason Campbell is not good in the red zone, so Janikowski gets plenty of opportunities. And second, Janikowski has a monstrous leg. He’s drilled an average of 4.4 field goals of 50-plus in the past five years.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 32-39 FG (4-7 from 50+; 8-11 from 40-49). 36 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 148.

  2. Josh Brown, K, Rams. Bye: 9.
Josh Brown finally gets to play in a great offense. Josh McDaniels and Sam Bradford will provide Brown with tons of field goal and extra point opportunities, and Brown is good enough to take advantage.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 29-34 FG (4-5 from 50+; 6-9 from 40-49). 45 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 146.

  3. Nate Kaeding, K, Chargers. Bye: 8.
Nate Kaeding may choke like Aurora Snow in the playoffs, but he’s still a great fantasy kicker. Kaeding was 32-of-35 two seasons ago, including 3-of-4 from 50-plus and 6-of-8 from 40-49. He struggled a bit last year because of a groin injury, but should bounce back.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 28-32 FG (2-3 from 50+; 7-9 from 40-49). 48 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 143.

  4. Garrett Hartley, K, Saints. Bye: 11.
Garrett Hartley lost his job early in the year, but reclaimed it in Week 6. He only missed once the entire year beginning in Week 7, and was justly awarded with a 5-year, $10.3 million contract. Hartley has a big leg and kicks in a dome for a great offense, so what more could you want?

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 26-31 FG (3-4 from 50+; 9-11 from 40-49). 50 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 143.

  5. Alex Henery, K, Eagles. Bye: 7.
Alex Henery is the most accurate kicker in college football history. He’ll be playing in a great offense that tends to struggle in the red zone at times. He’s definitely a top-10 fantasy kicker.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 28-34 FG (2-3 from 50+; 8-11 from 40-49). 44 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 140.

  6. Stephen Gostkowski, K, Patriots. Bye: 7.
Stephen Gostkowski’s field-goal percentages in 2007-2009: 87.5, 90.0, 83.9. He was 10-of-13 last year before tearing his quad. Gostkowski should be able to rebound from that injury.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 26-32 FG (1-3 from 50+; 7-10 from 40-49). 52 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 139.

  7. Mason Crosby, K, Packers. Bye: 8.
Mason Crosby has never hit 80 percent of his field goals in any season, which is a shame because he plays in such an explosive offense. Despite all of his misses, however, he’s still a great fantasy kicker.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 26-34 FG (3-6 from 50+; 6-9 from 40-49). 48 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 138.

  8. Matt Bryant, K, Falcons. Bye: 8.
Matt Bryant looked done in Tampa Bay at one point. Apparently not. Bryant went 28-of-31 last year, including 8-of-10 from 40-49 and 1-of-1 from 50-plus. He plays for a great offense in a dome.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 28-33 FG (1-2 from 50+; 7-10 from 40-49). 43 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 136.

  9. Dan Carpenter, K, Dolphins. Bye: 5.
I love Dan Carpenter as a fantasy kicker. He hit just 73.2 percent of his kicks last year, but he drilled 30 of them. Chad Henne is so inept in the red zone that Carpenter gets tons of opportunities.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 29-37 FG (3-6 from 50+; 10-16 from 40-49). 27 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 130.

  10. Neil Rackers, K, Texans. Bye: 11.
Call me crazy, but I don’t think Texans fans missed Kris Brown much. In his first year with Houston, Neil Rackers was 27-of-30, including 3-of-4 from 50-plus.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 25-29 FG (2-3 from 50+; 5-7 from 40-49). 45 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 129.

  11. Nick Folk, K, Jets. Bye: 8.
Nick Folk drilled 30 field goals in 2010. He did miss nine tries, but he’s worth a fantasy roster spot because of his high volume of attempts.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 27-35 FG (2-5 from 50+; 6-9 from 40-49). 36 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 127.

  12. Robbie Gould, K, Bears. Bye: 8.
Robbie Gould has hit at least 83.3 percent of his field goals the past five years. In addition to his excellent accuracy, he was also 3-of-4 from 50-plus in 2010.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 25-29 FG (2-3 from 50+; 8-11 from 40-49). 39 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 126.

  13. Adam Vinatieri, K, Colts. Bye: 11.
Adam Vinatieri missed only two field goals last year (26-28) but he’ll never get a lot of chances because Peyton Manning is just too efficient in the red zone.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 23-26 FG (0-0 from 50+; 7-9 from 40-49). 50 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 126.

  14. Jay Feely, Cardinals. Bye: 6.
Jay Feely is a good kicker – 19-of-24 from 40-49 in the past two years – so he’ll definitely be worth a roster spot if the Cardinals trade for Kevin Kolb.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 25-29 FG (2-3 from 50+; 9-11 from 40-49). 37 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 125.

  15. David Akers, K, 49ers. Bye: 7.
David Akers has lost his job to rookie Alex Henery. Akers was 32-of-38 last year, including 9-of-11 from 40-49, so he shouldn’t have any problem finding a job this offseason.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 25-31 FG (1-3 from 50+; 8-10 from 40-49). 39 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 124.

  16. Billy Cundiff, K, Ravens. Bye: 5.
Billy Cundiff had a great year for the Ravens. He didn’t convert a 50-yarder (0-1; 1-7 since 2004) but was 26-of-29, including 7-of-8 from 40-49.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 25-30 FG (0-1 from 50+; 7-9 from 40-49). 40 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 122.

  17. Rob Bironas, K, Titans. Bye: 6.
A great real-life kicker, Rob Bironas was 24-of-26 last year, including 2-of-3 from 50-plus. Bironas is 12-of-15 from that distance in the past four years. Unfortunately, Tennessee’s offense once again won’t give him many opportunities.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 23-26 FG (3-4 from 50+; 7-8 from 40-49). 36 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 118.

  18. Matt Prater, K, Broncos. Bye: 6.
Matt Prater went 16-of-18 last year, including 2-of-3 from 50-plus, before missing the final four games with an injury. The Broncos will be efficient in the red zone this year because of Tim Tebow’s rushing ability, so Prater isn’t a great fantasy kicker to own.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 24-27 FG (2-3 from 50+; 7-9 from 40-49). 34 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 118.

  19. Connor Barth, K, Buccaneers. Bye: 8.
Connor Barth was a solid 23-of-28 last year, including 1-of-2 from 50-plus. Tampa Bay’s offense figures to be better in 2011.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 22-27 FG (2-4 from 50+; 7-9 from 40-49). 40 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 117.

  20. Lawrence Tynes, K, Giants. Bye: 7.
Lawrence Tynes is coming off offseason surgeries for a sports hernia, an ankle and a heel. Tynes is a good kicker, but you may want to draft a healthier guy.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 21-27 FG (1-3 from 50+; 4-7 from 40-49). 44 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 113.

  21. Phil Dawson, K, Browns. Bye: 5.
Phil Dawson hasn’t hit a 50-yarder in two years (0-of-4), but he’s nailed at least 82 percent of his field goals in the past four years. He’ll have more attempts if Colt McCoy improves this season.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 24-28 FG (1-2 from 50+; 5-6 from 40-49). 33 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 112.

  22. Rian Lindell, K, Bills. Bye: 7.
Percentage-wise, Rian Lindell had the worst season of his career since 2003, hitting just 16-of-21 field goals. However, three of those misses were from 50-plus, where Lindell was 2-of-5.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 22-26 FG (2-4 from 50+; 6-8 from 40-49). 33 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 109.

  23. Swayze Waters, K, Steelers. Bye: 11.
Swayze Waters is Pittsburgh’s kicker. For now, anyway. We’ll see what happens.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 21-29 FG (0-1 from 50+; 4-8 from 40-49). 40 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 107.

  24. Ryan Succop, K, Chiefs. Bye: 6.
Ryan Succop hit 25-of-29 field goals as a rookie in 2009, but was just 20-of-26 last year. He’s an average fantasy kicker because Kansas City’s offense will struggle this season in the wake of Charlie Weis’ departure.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 21-26 FG (1-3 from 50+; 6-8 from 40-49). 35 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 106.

  25. Josh Scobee, K, Jaguars. Bye: 9.
Josh Scobee has a strong leg (10-of-16 from 50-plus past three years) but he hasn’t hit 80 percent of his field goals since 2007. The Jaguars will probably struggle offensively this year, so don’t count on Scobee as your fantasy kicker.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 21-27 FG (4-6 from 50+; 5-8 from 40-49). 34 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 104.

  26. Olindo Mare, K, Panthers. Bye: 9.
You don’t want any part of Olindo Mare because his quarterback is a raw rookie.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 22-25 FG (1-2 from 50+; 5-6 from 40-49). 29 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 102.

  27. Ryan Longwell, K, Vikings. Bye: 9.
Ryan Longwell has hit at least 80 percent of his field goals in all but two seasons of his career. The last time he failed to do so was 2005. Unfortunately, Longwell won’t have many opportunities because Minnesota’s offense will be stagnant.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 20-24 FG (1-2 from 50+; 6-7 from 40-49). 28 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 96.

  28. Graham Gano, K, Redskins. Bye: 5.
Graham Gano was an anemic 24-of-35 in 2010. The Redskins may sign a kicker in free agency.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 19-25 FG (0-2 from 50+; 5-8 from 40-49). 24 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 86.

  29. Jason Hanson, K, Lions. Bye: 9.
Any kicker would like to be 3-of-4 from 50 plus. Jason Hanson did that in eight games. Hanson would be a great fantasy kicker this year, but he’s coming off multiple leg injuries, including one to an Achillies.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 15-19 FG (2-4 from 50+; 5-7 from 40-49). 26 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 80.

  30. Clint Stitser, K, Bengals. Bye: 7.
After going 7-of-8 in place of an injured Mike Nugent in 2010, Clint Stitser figures to be Cincinnati’s kicker this year. Not that it matters with a rookie quarterback at the helm.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 16-22 FG (0-1 from 50+; 5-9 from 40-49). 26 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 79.

  31. David Buehler, K, Cowboys. Bye: 5.
David Buheler probably won’t be a Cowboy next year, thanks to the new kickoff rules. Dallas is expected to go after David Akers.

    Projected 2011 Fantasy Stats: 0-0 FG (0-0 from 50+; 0-0 from 40-49). 0 XP.
    Projected 2011 Fantasy Points: 0.
